My favorite F3 function is F3+F4. All it does is it changes the game mode, but it feels so much smoother than going slash, up, up. And that's only if you haven't put in another comand. Changing your render distance does not despawn mobs faster. They are still active and can walk back into your render distance. They de-spawn instantly once you' re 128 away however
When do he said it will make mobs despawn faster? It only makes the mob's chunk unloaded and make them freeze because the chunk their in is unloaded so every mobs inside that chunk is freezed.
F3+G is also useful, toggles chunk border visibility. I once heard something like Ancient Debris spawns most-frequently around Y:15 and along chunk borders.

F3 commands for Minecraft are cool but alt F4 does fun and neat tricks in almost any game
