    Dude I remember watching my brother play this for hours. In awe with the worldbuilding and how he would be able to solve the puzzles because I was too stupid to understand them. I never realized how nostalgic I would get listening to its soundtrack years later, remembering the simpler times I had as a child. Thanks for being a part of my childhood, you charming little game,

      Thirty years later I'll occasionally listen to the eight bit Mario soundtrack.
      I was listening to 8bit cover versions and my girlfriend recommended this - it stands alone, utterly baffling and beautiful.
      I remembered some really lovely memories of watching my big brother play TMNT on the NES after reading your comment. Awesome stuff.

    FEZ has become somewhat kind of important for me. When someone would ask what's my favorite game, I'd always answer this one without even knowing why. But it's here, always in a corner of my grey matter, making me have goosebumps whenever I think of it.
    I kind of feel sorry for Phil Fish, even though he acted like an asshole in general. This game must really have meant something to him. But whatever Phil wanted to make us feel with this game, I felt it. So much that I can't begin to put it into words. Games like Journey, even with its magnificence, got nowhere near what FEZ achieved to me.

      Yeah, this game is not about only the gameplay or the puzzles or the amazing soundtrack, his value trascend more than that, is the undescribable feeling that convey you. I once watched a video about the game and they say that the game as platformer is really easy and as puzzle game is frutrasting and yeah, it´s true but that means that the appeal of the game is something else. I think that the "something else" has to do with the emotions that the game is capable of give, throught the exploration of those scenarios on combination with music, perfect pixel art, and world building. I think that this piece has the genius to explore what videogames are able to do and more.

      Good to see there are more people out there feeling this way about the game. Every now and then I boot FEZ up again just to feel the aesthetic. I feel the reason this game is so special is because of its unique feel of freedom, adventure and mystery in a "friendly" world. Very little games do exploring without enemies. The gameplay itself (the puzzling, collecting) is nothing special, but it's the environment it's taking place in and the feel of the world and the music. Personal opinion, of course!

      Progress is one of my personal favorites. I dunno, it just... stuck out to me. The rest of the songs are amazing, they can be relaxing, foreboding, and many other feels. But, as soon as I found my way into the Industrial District, the music started playing, and it stuck out to me. Anytime I hear the song, I remember those metallic sounds of the city. I also played this game a year after I went to college, situated in Porto, one of the biggest cities of my country, so maybe that's why it stuck out to me so much. The same goes for Beacon, those tropical, relaxing tunes remind me of the calm, comfortable breezes during a summer day at the beach, not too cold, not too hot, just comfortably warm.

    This is an excellent soundtrack for a game with a memorable adventure. Unfortunately, I started listening to this during a difficult moment in my life so far. It was nothing too serious, but it still made me feel like absolute shit. Every time I hear this OST, I would get slight glimpses of those sad thoughts. But I also get inspired since it comes from an incredible game that unfortunately never got a sequel. I hope that similar works like these motivate me enough to make great things and eventually inspire others to create memorable experiences similar to the same inspiration FEZ gave me.

      The director of It Follows contracted Disasterpiece because he liked the way Fez sounded. Many of the soundtracks use Fez motifs.

    Wasn't FEZ made with like 3 other people aside from Phil Fish? If so then he doesn't exactly own all of it and the other people could technically make FEZ 2, seeing as they also "own" part of it?

    I've seen other people commenting on how this game inspires a unique emotional response that no other game really can, and I'd like to try and describe what I think that is. I think there's an underlying spiritual tone to the game. I say spiritual because "spiritualism" is what I would describe as having possession of an intuition surrounding the greater design of things, both internal and external, and knowing/feeling the implications of that design.
    The game's world and story revolve around a theme of walking around on the surface of a conceptual bubble, the depths of which are made very obvious, but not directly explored. There are a lot of things you encounter in the game that hint and almost "sing praise to" the world of ideas and implications beneath your feet. The feeling it captures is one of intense, cerebral, spiritual awe. Awe at first for just guessing at how deep this working of the universe goes, and awe in the endings of the game for being suddenly thrust beneath the surface and seeing the profound menagerie of what's really there. It's as big as or even bigger than you expected, but more beautiful and foreign than you could have ever imagined.
    It's the same kind of appreciation that I'd guess you'd feel really diving into things like mathematics or physics. These conceptual giants that, at their core, hold the keys to the nature of reality itself. They certainly seem huge, almost lovecraftian in their scope and implication on the surface. But everything you could guess about what lies inside those spheres of thought is but a blip in the ocean that they really are. That feeling that your paradigm, your perspective, is a cosmos in and of itself, but is simultaneously nothing more than a grain of sand on an infinite shore, is what this game captures so well. The sheer scope of that terrifying and mystifying concept "everything".

    • @andrebaptista8284
      @andrebaptista8284 3 роки тому +9

      100% dude! As someone that has delved deep into spiritual practice I 100% agree. I also feel like that feeling comes from the inate sense we have to be "feel" what is beyong the veil. For me when I sense into it, it feels like something that is so alien, but so familiar at the same time. A place I can both yearn for, but then also feel like I have a meloncholic nostalgia for. I wouldnt be suprised if Phil hasnt dabbled in psychadelics or done a lot of spiritual work himself. The music does kind of feel like the framework of everything beyond ourselves, the grid in which all reality takes shape. I loved your comment man, super inspiring.
