I think it's a good thing they added this to the game. You can't reasonably be expected to realize someone logging in and out with identical stats, gear and name. The fact that skulltricking like that works so well is exactly why people need protecting from it. It's either that or force everyone in the wildy to be skulled always.

Back when craw bow first came out I was pking and the guy I was attacking finished killing his rev, he got the craw bow drop but I managed to kill him before he picked it up. I didn’t sell right away I used it myself as I was a ranger tank. I got my own craw bow drop. Best memory ever

I think the new mechanics are good for pking, because the average player who was too afraid to even try fighting back for fear of getting skull tricked will be more willing to give it a try or come prepared to fight back when wilderness bossing.

Their inventory, spellbook, KO weapon etc will all be wrong regardless. They will have way less dps than even a pker in mystic with minimal risk who isn't completely clueless.
The only people who can use this to their advantage are people pretending to do pvm, but are in reality geared for pking which is basically no one. Actually sounds like a good idea, might go test that.

Honestly I think the introduction of an option to avoid skull tricking is one of the best changes that Jagex has implemented for the wildy. First off as a bit of a disclaimer, if you're a pker you'll only care about what I'm about to say if you actually want the wilderness to improve. If you want the wilderness to be super hardcore and exactly the way you see it and you're willing to let it die down to just you and 5 other players then what I'm gonna say wont matter but if you actually want pvp to become a priority for Jagex then I think this argument can help.
The main arguments from people defending skull tricking boil down to not wanting the wildy to become less hardcore, blaming the players who get skulltricked for being skulltricked and a hilariously ironic statement about understanding risk which I will explain the irony behind at the end.
Firstly the whole less hardcore thing, yeah it's less hardcore...so what? As I first stated if you fall into the category of wanting the wilderness to actually get content and improve Jagex has to feel like the wilderness is worth putting time into, Kieran basically said this straight up in the latest QnA. Less hardcore maybe, more players? Definitely.
Secondly and in some ways most importantly, this arrogant condemnation of people who get skulltricked is so ridiculously toxic, imagine playing a game like league of legends and spending your time earning characters to lose in a way you didn't know was possible and the characters you had unlocked to be taken from you. Not everyone has played the game for 15 years and it's the newer players who you need to convince that pvp is both fun and worth doing. Letting someone whos new to the game get skulltricked, lose everything and telling them they're a moron because "anyone" would have known better despite the fact that the only perspective you understand is that of a veteran who has played the game for decades is so ridiculously out of touch. Funny because people accuse Jagex of being out of touch with pvp.
Finally to cover the most egregious argument about risk. The statement often goes as such, "it's the wilderness you should know the risk and it's your fault for not understanding the risk". The skull system was created to allow for people who want different levels of risk a gives different levels of power to them. You wanna be able to attack whoever looks the most tasty, you risk everything. You want to be able to defend yourself but not start fights, you risk losing most of your things. It's skull tricking that removes the ability to properly understand what risk you're getting into. People say just turn off attack options but what if I want to have the ability to defend myself, that's what the system was designed for in the first place. It's so much less fun to go into the wilderness and never want to fight back just because I'm scared of some random tactic that might make me lose months of progress. I'm an iron and I will literally be more likely to participate in wildy content with this system in place because it makes the wildy more fun and less random.
RS is has become very pussy game, remember when if you died doing pvm u had like 1minute to get loot back or everyone can loot it. now you just pay 100k or nothing and u get all back. Not saying its right or wrong but definetly more boring. Now when there is not even skull tricking potential the game has no surpirises, you always know what will happen
You research a boss before you go in, you learn Zulrah rotations and etc. in the wilderness it’s the same thing you learn what makes it dangerous ie skull tricks. What you want is to kill easy npcs with almost zero knowledge and be prepared to lose the 100k risk cause that’s what you’re use to as 1 hp said. Since you don’t lose anything in the main game you want the same in the wilderness

If you have actually read my comment then you completely missed the point I made in the very first paragraph. You and I want different things, so arguing on methods and merits is pointless. I want the wilderness to thrive and have value to the majority of the playerbase, for pking to become something that more people want to do. You're saying you want the wilderness to have more risk and for players to lose more when they die there regardless of their choices on how to play and the only choice on whether they lose anything being based on the choice to go there or not, despite the fact that the majority of the playerbase has already acknowledged that's not how they want the wilderness to be. What you want has lead to the wilderness dying in the first place. The fact that you still want it says that you're willing to let the wilderness end up with just you and a few other players going there as long as you can have your hardcore wildy fantasy.

I simply said if people out the effort of learning escapes or knowing the common tactics such as already using what was in place you wouldn’t get skull tricked. Only players mindlessly click and fight back against get skull tricked. With the left click option off and just using auto retaliate you would never get skull tricked except with chins and barrage. This is fairly common knowledge that is easily obtainable, imagine complaining about jad being too hard cause you couldn’t look up his attack style sounds or animations. I’m just saying they buff drops to bring in pvmers but they don’t wanna know how to survive or keep themselves safe. They wanna make 2-4m an hour and lose a couple hundred k. The wilderness hasn’t been hardcore really for years, you keeping it under the guise makes you seem ridiculous

It’s actually the best way to survive if you get Tb’d in the Rev Cave. Slows down other persons DPS giving you a much higher chance of survival, to tank the TB.

As someone who's never skulltricked, or having been skulltricked: I think it's good that they added the skull prevention system. With it being in the game, it makes the anti-PK option more viable and accessible. Turning more PK'ing into actual back and forth battles, rather than a game of cat and mouse where the mouse puts on a bulwark and constantly chugs brews and restores. The latter option is still there and is just as viable as ever, it's just that the former is a better option now.

It just makes about 70% of the remaining pker's (skull trickers) vanish.
Games in the kino era for PvM'ers and ironmen but its all but dead for pkers.

After spending a year playing and watching all of yours and frameds videos I realized that there's just too many things I don't understand about the game/pking/skulls. I have always refused to take any value into the wildy, and I've refused to ever turn on attack player options because I don't want to get tricked.
Now maybe I will start learning to pk, and fight back instead of just being annoyed and a free 100k for pkers.

I think this update will actually help revitalize the wilderness. All they need to do now is somehow get rid of clans ability to dragon spear people into multi and I bet a lot more people would be willing to try out the content there. I feel like most players are hesitant to do wildy content not because they know they can be killed by another player, but because they know there is a risk of essentially being scammed out of millions of gp. I've been trying to get into pvp lately but LMS is just an unwinnable bot fest, and half of the clips on youtube I see of wildy pking end with 38 people logging in and dragon spearing the pker into multi and throwing up their cringy clan hash tags. There's really no way for newer players to get into pvp while skull tricking and clans are around.

Clan pkers are trash. I mainly do pvp on osrs but was turned off from clans from the days of RS2. Bunch of losers that spam their clan hashtag and pj newcomers to their clan. Gave up on pk clans been pjed too many times from my own clan so I only go solo. I remember when they had bounty hunter lol I actually quit pking for a while during that point too because it was over run with stupid pk clans.

The skulling mechanics are meant to give an advantage to the attacker and defender; the defender gets to bring better gear because they risk less, and the attacker gets discretion: they get to pick their fights.
Skull tricking breaks this intended interaction, and like the BP nerf, it should've been fixed a long time ago.
It's not about making the game easier or softer, it's about making pvp in the pvp area work how it was intended to since rsc.

I think pvp should be deceptive only in the aspects of combat. As in like hiding a weapon or using and uncommon spec like the Ancient GS.

Pkers aren't the brightest folks. They aggressively refuse updates that are good for them.
This is why I don't like Jagex's polling system. The average player is a midwit that would make a horrible game developer. Yet, their system makes everyone entitled to their opinion. I'm welcoming more "integrity changes" as they ignore the idiots who think every update is ruining the game that they will continue to obsessively play no matter what changes they make anyways.
I think a lot of what we see with complaining about updates is actually just like, video game addicts just being burnt out from the game.

I think it's a good change. The lengths toxic individuals and groups were going to in order to skull trick people it was getting a tad absurd. Mostly the duplicate accounts with slightly differing usernames. Baiting with animations or impersonating npcs and whatnot seemed fair game to me but the alts with indistinguishable usernames is rather shitty.

Personally I'd say skulltricking is one of the reasons why I don't touch anything pvm or pvp related in the wilderness. Lets face it, if it wasn't for the fact that you can use in game gp to get bonds then nobody would care. Most people wouldn't value that gp, but since bonds came to existence now that 5m risk is risking 14 day membership on your account. It equates to money in real life that you would have to spend to play.
That's why I just pay for membership in USD, so I can just treat the fake game currency for what it is.
Much rather pay real money, than spend real time doing things I don't like doing in game just so I can afford to play the game.

skull tricking is literally scamming. it is misleading someone so you can take their items. no different than every other version of scamming. Deterring scammers should never be considered babyfying the game.

Skull tricking has actively been whats CAUSED the pvp scene to die. Because the very trick Torvesta used in this clip people because afraid of pvp because they go in intending to risk one thing to only find out they where scammed into risking WAY more. This would be like someone figuring out how to make a bank transfer request go where what people thought was a period ended up being a comma so they where giving away way more then they intended.
Skulltricking is a bad mechanic, hopefully people will now do more pvp without being scared of losing all their items.
@@CYWNightmare nh/bridding brings a lot more skill and strategy into the mix so I enjoy that, but yeah edge style or pvp world, honor style pvp is boring as shit to me.
I wish they would tweak the game a bit so hitting on/off pray was just a little bit more rewarding or punishing. That'd remove a lot more rng from the equation.
@@Theviewerdude I've been thinking that same thing about how to limit RNG. Nothing triggers me more than when I lose an LMS fight despite hitting them 70% off pray while they only got me off pray 25% of the time.
They could make Prot from Melee not only prevent 40% of incoming melee damage, but also add ~5-10% bonus to your current stab/slash/crush bonuses. Same for the other two overheads with their respective defence bonuses, but only applicable in PVP situations so it doesn't affect PVM like GGs who can hit through prayer. That way, if you're good with anticipating the necessary overhead, RNG would be less of a factor.
Could do it on the other end too with piety, rigour, and augury; give each an additional accuracy bonus only applicable in PVP. I think the first option would be better though since predicting what your opponent is going to do is more skill-based than simply making sure you hit rigour before bolting. Also would make staying in your tank gear even more important/effective.
@@davidevans3736 well think about it this way, in most pvm, protect prayers ignore 100% of damage. In pvp, they ignore 40% of damage, and I think they do something for accuracy a little bit too.
Those numbers could just be tweaked. Maybe reduce max hit on pray by another 10-15%, decrease accuracy on prayer a little bit, and make the base defense bonuses a little bit lower or base accuracy a little bit higher in pvp, so that when you do hit off pray, it's more rewarding.
Just to keep things simple they wouldn't have to actually go in and nerf/buff gear as it is all balanced in PVM. They could just add an invisible multiplier that affects gear equally across the board to defense/accuracy bonuses for when they are being used in pvp.
These sorts of changes are perfect to test out in beta worlds.

It's a very good update. The whole point of the skull system is to allow the PvMer to fight back, and that concept was broken. Even if funny, skull tricking is hurtful. Personally, I was skull trick lured for dragon claws (with two accounts like in this video). It was not fun at all. It was not my fault. But I had this opinion even before that. When skull tricking, you use funny techniques to get only noobs who don't deserve it, or you use very malicious techniques to get experienced players -- either way that's evil.

It's not safer, PvMers still die just as easily. It's just more dangerous for PKers now, since more PvMers will fight back. Isnt that a good thing?

@@xavierjimenez2640 that's the point of skulls. Being the aggressor comes with additional risk. Being the defender comes with the risk of almost certainly not being geared as well as the PKer.
