- take me to the graveyard
lemme see the stones
if today ain't the day
I know I'll go later on
take me to the graveyard
really wanna go
talk the departed
tell me what you know
oh grandpappa
I wish I woulda listened
someday I'm gonna hug you
we're gonna go fishin
oh grandmama
you always knew
someday I
won't have to miss you
take me to the graveyard
lemme see the stones
if today ain't the day
I know I'll go later on
take me to the graveyard
really wanna go
talk the departed
tell me what you know
oh my buddy
you must be wiser now
you went too soon
or I'm late somehow
look here partner
I shed no tear
you were the bravest
now there ain't no fear
take me to the graveyard
lemme see the stones
if today ain't the day
I know I'll go later on
take me to the graveyard
really wanna go
talk the departed
tell me what you know
up in the sky
with the white robed saints
everything that is
someday ain't
who'm I to fight it
time roll on
you know the boss
I jus know the song
take me to the graveyard
lemme see the stones
if today ain't the day
I know I'll go later on
take me to the graveyard
really wanna go
talk the departed
tell me what you know
I wanna tell em thank you
for giving it a try
for hurtin and a lovin
living this life
I wanna tell em thank you
I'm glad you came
without everybody
the place wouldn't be the same
take me to the graveyard
lemme see the stones
if today ain't the day
I know I'll go later on
take me to the graveyard
really wanna go
talk the departed
tell me what you know
I’m 64 and this dude gives me hope for the future.
67 here feel the same
@ Is Freebird a Skynyrd reference?
"without everybody, the place wouldn't be the same"
So good!
I believe Jesse has written more songs in the last 6 months than the Stones have written in the last 50 years. This young man is a legend in the making!
Jesse is amazing, no doubt in my mind, but there is a difference between producing and releasing a song vs writing one and filming it a couple times to upload it on YT.
No shads towards Jesse, just wanted to point that out.
@@impulsiveDeciderfor sure, the kind of songs the stones wrote took much longer to come to fruition and most musicians back then wrote dozens of songs for each one that made an album. That said, the quality of the output is staggering.
He gets better every song haven't heard a bad song yet🚬👽🦘🦘🇦🇺
Absolute legend. This man is something I need in my ears
I’m trying to figure out how he was reincarnated from John Prine before he died?
Writing from Southern Arizona I'll be turning 80 in September so I guess I have one foot in the graveyard I think a lot of people in the graveyard have regrets about their life and what they might have done but didn't do I have a few myself and one of them is that I didn't stick with a music career 50 years ago So speaking to you who has immeasurable talent I have this to say don't ever give up keep playing your music and keep writing songs no matter what your life is your music and let your music fill the air Always and Forever Jesse
Still not too late, bud.
How many songs did this wonderful musician release last year. I swear the majority of last year was filled with Jesse Wells.
I’m going for 246 songs
You left too soon, or I'm late somehow. Wow. Excellent.
“you left too soon or I’m late somehow” made me cry. Miss my best friend. This song is for her. Thanks Jesse for this and all your heartfelt songs.❤
Same here with my fiancée. 😢
The littel birds on back up brother this is art full circle.
Love your background singers
Your lyrics are so strong and eloquent. Love listening to ya brother !
It's a beautiful song Jesse. Thank you.
Graveyards are the most beautiful gardens, everyone there was brought there by someone who loved them enough to do so 🫶🏼✨
❤️🩹 that was beautiful
Jesse, you are one of the most talented singer/songwriters I have ever seen. I say this as a retired music professor who has spent most of my life with music. I am finding the events in America in recent months and especially those of the past week, very hard to take. It has caused me stress and trouble sleeping and I think I am going to have to step away from it for a bit. While I really appreciate your efforts, you look stressed and worn out, too. It must be very wearing to distill this craziness into the poetry of your songs. Please look after yourself. If you need to take a break, we’ll be here when you come back. Best wishes.
100%.
Second this. Please, please take care of yourself. You don’t need to worry about us.
You said it for so many of us. 😌 ...every word. ❤
That is heartfelt fact, Jesse, take care of yourself.
Thank you for this song my great grandpa died last week and this is just what I need.
@@PatricksMusic-ti6we Roger that. ❤️❤️❤️
The past six months of Jesse's songs have helped all of us.
"You left too soon, or I'm late somehow," hits so hard, and today is going to be an emotional day 😢 1:08
Love this mans' poetry, word structure, meaning, simplicity and delivery.
Wonderful description of what I have experienced with getting older. Thank you!
Went to Babcia's ( Grandma in Polish) grave, for weeks, to seek advice on direction in life. She suggested Nursing as a Profession... That was 35+ years ago!!! N.Y.State paid for my BSN in full!
This guy is rapidly earning his way into The Great American Songbook.
There's a lot of old wisdom in this young man. It's been a very long time since music has made me as emotional as you do. Bravo Jesse Welles.
You never fail to move me. Thank you for such a poignant song. Have a lovely day.
I'm glad to see you above the Earth, Jesse. My son didn't make it to 27 and it's never gonna be alright. I enjoy hearing you play , though, and talk about the stuff you talk about, making me smile, making us all proud to be. All my gratitude .........
Glad to be alive at a time where Jesse's music can soothe the soul. ❤ Love your work Jesse!
I am so excited to listen to your new stuff. This song is only 20 minutes old right now
Jesse's the bard of the people, what a pleasure to have his presence in these times.
when the devil plays his fiddle, a voice is bound to come out of the woodwork 🧡
Makes me think of our brother Jim he's in a cream can hanging on a fence post overlooking a rock garden
Rest in peace 🙏 Jimmy
One of my fav’s. Just gets better w every song. Thank You Mr. Welles
Lotta love woven thru those lyrics
kid...i'm 78 years old. you are SOMETHING 🙂
👍
he always was too!! 💜
The dead don't talk. But the children don't forget.
I wonder if he knows that just how incredibly talented he is. The songwriting abilities is incredible. Reminds me of John Prine born again.
RIP to my brother Josh Bentley of Kingsport, Tennessee. One of the early casualties of the painkiller wars and the best friend I ever had.
"Oh my buddy you must be wiser now, You went too soon or I'm late somehow" is one of thee most priceless peices of poetry ever put to paper. Thank you Jesse for bringing to our ears.
Don't cry for the dead, because they weep for us.
This man is the voice of the people, speaking to the true disenchanted masses… and boy there are lots of us these days.
Liberal incrementalism and virtue signaling, and regressive, corrupt maga conservatism has taken this country down a dark path these past 10-15 years… and it don’t matter if ur conservative or liberal cause these days we all realize that economically we are being used up and lied to.
Jesse speaks to that in a way that we all crave and need in this oligarchy age. We want and need protest music now more than ever, and I hope he inspires a new folk populist movement of singers in the same vain.
Sing Jesse sing. He speaks to the soul. For me. For you. For the people.
Well said Blake......
Greatly put. As if you’ve read myself and other’s thoughts
Us poor folks haven’t got a chance unless we organize, we gotta ditch capitalism if we wanna survive
My favorite internet bard! Love your songs bro. Keep on keepin' and stay safe.
You are the best, Jessie! You give an old man some kind of hope. 🌹❤️🌹👍
I lost my father earlier this month. It was too cold to dig the grave, so we couldn't have his graveside service. Once he was interred, my mother and I were eager to go to the graveyard to see his resting place. Your music is truly cathartic, and I cannot thank you enough for sharing it with all of us! 💙💙💙
I’m sorry for your loss.
I m going to a funeral today. I swear Jesse hits hard.
keep believing your friend is right there with you ❤❤
My condolences.
My condolences. This song's hitting me too, my dad just passed a few weeks ago.
Sending you virtual hugs.
Tell people you love them now, it’s better than talking to stones while filled with regret. This song reminds me of all of my missed opportunities to do that because I was too goddamned busy doing unimportant things.
your lyric logic , your voice, you emotion, how you push and bend and TUNE--- the FEEEELING !!!!! A REAL COMMUNICATION in world with so much fake ads and fake jobs etc...., and well yours is true ....to you and others .....and that is a clean heart warming COMMUNICATION, and your TUNES are AWESOME !!! PERFORMANCE 20/10 . hit the stages ,and the studios, you about to be the next legend. love the lyrics
As a Cemetery Researcher, I approve of this song. :-) Thx, Jesse!
Jesse just knowing you’re out there in the woods singing puts my heart at ease. I’m taking to the woods myself. It’s always where I felt safest.
The birds singing in the background were perfect 👍
We all feel this one in almost the exact same way. I was laying in bed thinking about my own mortality and dear folks I miss and he writes this beauty. And another pretty guitar that I don’t recognize the name of……
You thanking the living for trying and hurting and loving, caused me to exclaim aloud, alone in this cold cabin where i live, "that's beautiful Jesse".
Then, i played your song again so i could sing it along with you. It felt great to sing those lines of yours. thank you.
man, thank you also for trying and hurting and loving, and for sharing what you make of it.
I can't imagine a better gift than what you are giving.
Beautiful comment 🙂
Always Feels comforting to see compassion still lives in my fellow people.
Wi5h the hell being unleashed by our ‘gov’t’ to every man, woman and child..this is the perfect day for this song . Lordy..please ppl get out there and stand up for America …thx
This is a tear jerker ❤
I really hope one day when I'm walking through the woods, I just find Jesse out there singing LOL I think he might just live there! Great song!
This is one of those songs that make me wish you weren't becoming famous. I wanna be selfish and keep these musical gifts to myself, and not let the masses ruin it like they do everything else. Keep on rockin, Jesse. Thank you for another gem!
I feel you, but this man deserves all the success he has coming.
@wouldiwasshookspeared4087 100%
We can't be selfish with this guy, the world needs him.
@@KigenEkeson I agree. But sadly, the more famous he gets, the more of his messages and truths will get lost in the shuffle. It's just a byproduct of being popular in a society such as this.
This one hit me brought a tear to my eye
Yes I have tears flowing after that one takes a lot to make me cry but that one hit a nerve 💔🇦🇺🦘
Everything that is, someday ain’t. The perfect epitaph.
Beautiful.
You’re a National Treasure, dude.
Heck yeah Jesse back at it again! Thanks bro! Your music totally gets me stoked for the day.
So talented and skilled. I envy Jesse’s word-smithery
Sir I may not see eye to eye with you on every issue but you are one of the best singer/songwriters we have with us right now. Keep em coming and thank you for giving us so many beautiful tunes.
I'm glad there's still people who can just enjoy some good music even if they disagree
Same with me...
Your best song by far
Life would be boring if we all agreed on everything.
Poets aren't there to agree with. They make you think and feel. See the world in a different way.
ALL THE FEELS... This hits close and resonates with ALL of us that have (temporarily) "lost" a loved one. God bless you, your music and your messages, Jesse. ❤❤❤💯💯💯🎶🎶🎶✌️
I needed this song right now.
For such a simple melody, I can just feel the power in all the songs I've heard from this guy as if I was practically listening to metal. 🤘🤟
I like the band/studio session too, but that simplicity is what I really love. Glad I've been along from almost the beginning. Thank you for this ride so far.
I may be a super fan. I immediately noticed you’re wearing the Farm Aid shirt.
Fuck dude what a line!
"You left too soon, or I'm late somehow."
Nice one Jesse. Thanx. Keep sharing your special mentality...planet Earth,...is the Graveyard, but the living are the fruit on the vine!
This brought tears to my eyes.
Me too.. Not the first time a new Jesse song has had that effect. I ugly-cried the first time I listened to Hold On... dang man 😢
this one is really good. thanks for being
I miss my parents. 😭 💔 🕊
Wish I had a friend like you.
You got that right.
@@PaulReed-lj2ymI think we all do. 🩷
you do amigo!! ❤
“everything that is someday ain't”, great lyric!
Thank you for this one. My brother and favorite human went on ahead last month. Much Love Everyone ❤❤❤
I am so sorry Maxine ❤
sending you love, life will let you live and he will always be there ❤
@@snowpea10 aww thanks. ☺️ He was legendary and everyone who knew him is grateful for having known him.
@@katherinerosem132 thanks ☺️ he was a legend and a special dude. We will see him again. ❤️
Bro, thankyou from down here in Aorearoa Nz, you put a smile on my face everytime i hear your music.......I honestly think you a4e up there with Guthrie and Dillon. Big up bro ❤️🤙
Mahalo nui loa Jessie Wells❣ I visited many graveyards, even worked at: The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. I even have came across abandon gravesites where I stay now. I’ve spent much time. Talking to the dead to discover how to live this thing called life. One of my nick names is Grave Tender… Thank you for your songs. Stay you, stay Aloha. Tend well to you and yours🤙🏽
yeah that was excellent.
This one is a beautiful thinker. Thank you man. 🙏
Another wonderful song. I was sort of expecting a whistle verse at some point. Seems like it would fit. Thank you for another bright spot in my day.
You play the best look'n best sound'n guitars I think I've ever heard here on the great interwebs!!! Music to my old and aging ears.♤♤ thanks always , ron
My favorite place. Cemeteries. 😊
You will certainly be remembered. That is when you are departed. I hope we meet on the other side sometime.
My dads dad who he thought was his real dad passed in November of 79, i was told this past September the day after my dad passed away on my moms birthday that who my dad thought was his dad wasn't his real dad and the man that was had passed away in 2015, i always wonder why my dad didn't look like who he thought his dad was but when i saw the picture of who his real dad was their was no denying it.
Although i never met any of my Grandfathers mom and dads side i know one day we will all go fishing in the heavenly waters above.
Such a raw voice, almost more emotion than technique, reminds of Thom Yorke's approach to singing, by way of Woody Guthrie and John Prine. "oh my buddy // you must be wiser now // you went too soon // or I'm late somehow." and "everything that is // someday ain't // who'm I to fight it // time roll on // you know the boss
// I just know the song." Really powerful stuff man, always on point and poignant. Saw someone else mention Pulitzer prize material, and I just gotta say you really deserve that kind of recognition. True art is tricky to come by, and your channel is a gold mine.
I've heard the studio versions. His technique on guitar is damn good.
Anotha banga.
You are impossible with this many songs in such a short time. I can easily tell these are all things you've been ruminating on for your entire life. But your ability to adapt to what we are currently living through is profound. I love you with all my broke heart...💔
last year, my birthday fell on the day of the solar eclipse (April 8) and I traveled to Dallas to visit some friends who had a plan for witnessing the celestial event. we found ourselves in a graveyard, staring up at the sun through welder's glass, and i felt a surreal presence thinking about the dead beneath us, the dead all over the world, and wondered who among them may have also bore witness to what i had seen.
Rockbridge, hell yeah.. moving up in the world. Right on
I could talk about the verses, sweet guitar, uplifting melody, but I'd rather just listen to this song a few more times.
best way to put it lol, i really could and feel like i wanna, but the urge to re-listen keeps winning xdddd

Thank you. Sending so much love, peace, happiness and light. 🙏🔺️🤍🌌🫧✨️
I visited the cemetery the day before you released this. This song broke my heart in the best way. So many loved ones and friends on the other side.
Thank you Jesse for putting it into words.❤️
Thanks Jesse, I needed that.
What A Beautiful Song Jesse 💯💯❤❤🤗🤗
The ancestors ❤
And all that have gone before us.
damn dude. This just felt like a hug for everyone who's lost someone, and who hasn't!!?? Profound song writing right there. The kind of track that brings everyone together.
Wow, left me in tears. The birds seem to like it too.
Yep, they didn't stop or chirp alarms, they kept singing because it was a melody in agreement with nature.
This dude, rocks my soul with the tune to the lyrics ❤🔥 ✌️
"I wanna tell em thank you
for giving it a try
for hurtin and a lovin
living this life
I wanna tell em thank you
I'm glad you came
without everybody
the place wouldn't be the same"
It's Wednesday, and I haven't cried like this since Saturday, when I attended the second funeral of the year.
I am really struck at how prolific Jessie is. It's like he writes a new song everyday and puts it up on youtube.
not just prolific, also the quality of everything; the lyric writing, the creation of melody and accompaniment, the setting, even the choice of guitar, are all astonishing. Getting it all done on a daily basis and making it seem effortless is truly mind-blowing to anyone who knows anything about what it takes to create music and art.
It’s better to have loved and loved by others. With the tears we shed you will discover your own happiness and love for others.
Jesse is so talented, that listening to him is painful. Everything that’s going on in the world is terrifying and he’s creating the soundtrack every day. Every day he puts out a new song or video. This one hit me extra hard and as much as i anticipated listening to it, i hesitated because, as i said, it’s painful.
I visit cemeteries almost daily and I talk to people I know, and people I don’t, thank you for putting this into words.
My husband said “is this guy your soulmate?” I said no, he’s the world’s soulmate. And I think he’s tapping in to something beyond the realm. At least a muse. He’s a prophet/oracle.
Jesse - please allow us to donate to your channel - I would like to support you on your journey.
