Cool! I think I am going to try that out :)

Why does everyone seem to react TCCA with HCL to make their chlorine? You can make it by electrolysis of saltwater using graphite electrodes. In fact, you can allow the chlorine to mix with the hydrogen and not worry about separating them because your bath wouldn't be cold enough to liquefy the hydrogen anyway. You'd get pure chlorine liquid and all you would be using up would be salt. I make liquid nitrogen myself so that would be free for me as well. I should do this experiment. Of course, I'd get solid chlorine with LN2 but that's okay.

Ilovelazers It is. The hardest part of this video was disposing of it. Once I ran out of dry ice I had problems. The chlorine started boiling. I was freaking out because the container I tried to store it in had a leak in the brass fittings. I was getting chlorine gas in my face, eyes, nose... It was extremely unpleasant.I just let it vent in my back yard...

Lol but the "bromine" they put in pools is just bromide salts, not nearly as dangerous as pure bromine. Ah well--it probably doesn't matter since it will get diluted a lot.

It's not frozen chlorine you see it's frozen water. You didn't dehydrate it before allowing it to condense

      Its a long story...
I thought I was performing electrolysis, but I had NaCl as an electrolyte, and it was in my room for about three days before i realised. I felt that my lungs were inflamed, but i thought little of it, and i thought that the 'chlorine' smell was really Oxygen. (pool Chlorine has O, and the smell) I was wrong haha, won't do that again...

I've smelt pure chlorine gas only once in my life in a lab experiment gone wrong, and holy shit, never again, please. Imagine the smell you get in a confined space from chlorinated public swimming pools. Now multiply it by about ten thousand. That's what it's like.

Also just pouring the chlorine gas out. *sigh does he know wht could happen if he breaths too much clorine into his lungs?
