    The Backstory of Jamie's Jeep....
Jamie has wished and WISHED for a Willy's Jeep for her Christmas and Birthday present 🎁 . Ian has had a beautiful Willys 1946 CJ-2a Jeep in the back sitting on a Willys M38A1 Chassis for the past few years. Ever since Ian and Jamie were married, Jamie has been eyeing it for a build on Full Custom Garage, sadly the project didn't make it to the show, but now she gets her wish! Jamie is learning about the history of these jeeps and is learning a little wrenching from Ian. The desert is a great place to go "jeepin" and Jamie wants to be part of the club in the warmer months and feel the wind in her hair as she drives to the local market. Jamie is down to get her hands dirty in the garage on this one! We appreciate our amazing support system in the desert with helping us procure the parts needed for this fun build!

Hey everyone! We had a GREAT TIME at KOH 2024! We are glad to be back after taking a week away from the socials and filming! Ian is taking on this jeep project head on with the cross steering! It is cross steering, not typical of hot rod steering! We can't wait to get this jeep rolling very soon! Please remember to SUBSCRIBE! LIKE! COMMENT! SHARE! Big LOVE! Ian and Jamie

Ian for the steering in relation to the cross member you can cut a hole straight through it and weld a piece of pipe in the cross member so the steering rod can run through it and you can keep the strength of the cross member

It's pretty common to weld a bung with a tapered hole on top of the cross bar to attach the tie rod of the drag link to. It would solve the clearance issue on the passenger side because it would move the drag link rod end inboard of the spring on both left & right turns, still keeping the drag link as long as possible.

My '48 Willy's had a "crystalized frame" (it didn't like the weight of the 302 HP someone put in it). The Willy's frame flex is one of its secret weapons but at their age they break. I know you will know what to do about it.
The stock brakes will remind you to not drive too fast. 😂

Since the axle sits on top of the spring if you were to make some small spacer plates ( just thick enough for the clearance you need) and place them between the axle and the springs you could address the clearance issue with the tie rod and lower the front of the jeep ( just a little) at the same time.

Ian, just a thought, why don't you get a remmer so you can put the track rod ends in from the top instead of the bottom as they are now, you would also have to bush the larger hub holes or sadly have to buy new track rod ends, I guess you probably had the same thought, best wishes to you both

I made my stearing so much easier. Do you remember using a broom handle and wraping the rope around it a few turns and secure it. Turn the stearing wheel and it wraps and shortens to one side snd lengthens to the other side. The wheels mounted to a cross 2x4 that pivots on a center bolt.

You could fix your tie rod clearance issues with a couple of heim joints. They'll thread right in your drag link and you could drill down thru your tie rod holes and then use some bolts and move drag link on top instead of the bottom. Just a suggestion. Love what you're doing.

Thought !!!! Do the hub arms disconnect ??? if they can be swapped from one side to the other, behind instead of infront, it would allow you to move the steering box behind the crossmember with the pitman arm forward instead of back. Giving you a much shorter steering column link and no crossmember issues.

The only issue that you could run into by using the longest rod insert would be that if you didn't leave enough room on each end, your tie rod ends could bottom out against that inner rod when you're trying to make adjustments.
