A very informative video, Carl, a great tutorial on one of my favorite antenna designs, the end fed. I also liked all the examples of the baluns and ununs that were shown in your video, it also starts your creative juices to flow, thank you for showing how easy it is to contruct a really great and easy antenna to get on the air. Thank you for sharing.

Cracking video Carl. I have Chris' "Ultra portable End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) Portable antenna Kit" with a Wurth toroid. Easy build following the instructions.

Great video, your mates a clever guy. Fortunately I only run resonant ants, so no coils etc required. I would imagine the vertical would do well on longer distance contacts.

Hi guys. While watching your video. You briefly talked about kite aerials. If you are using a 49:1 or 9:1 or 64:1 unun on an end fed aerial you don't need a statitic discharge resistor as dc resistance of primary and secondary unun windings are about 2 ohms to outer coax . As long as outer is earthed. If you are using a vertical aerial with a loading coil there is no dc path to coax outer .So a discharge resistor is required between centre conductor and outer coax which should be earthed. I used a flameproof resistor of around 1megohm. Cheers from old George 😊

Running 5 watts here with an icom 705 and the wire dipole cut for 20 m. Seems to be directional out the end of the driven element. Been working New England from here in Newfoundland, but cannot work across the pond. Wondering whether one of these might do it?
Another excellent video Carl, hope the Isle of Jura wasn't too peaty, haha.

I got my M7 ticket in February, but I've not got myself an ATU yet, so please consider people that do have one before considering me, as I wouldn't be able to use the antenna straight away.

Hi, the EFHW will work without and ATU.

If you email me we can send out a kit, only a couple left now. The antenna will get you on a few bands without the need to use a tuning unit.
