I was really excited about the R1300GS, i went to the showroom to put a down-payment, but when i saw it and sat on it, i was shocked by how tiny it was! So, i put a down-payment on the 2024 R1250GSA Triple black (yes, 2024 R1250 GSA, look it up). I am a big guy, 194cm, so i need something comfortable. Furthermore, when i saw them next to each other, the 1250 is better looking.
A lot of people have grown attached to the old GS and Will reflexively hate on the new model but it’s unarguably a more modern, sleeker and refined machine.
Lone Rider & Big Rock Moto is the only two opinions that matter to me, and you Alex, are the first to give your opinion/feedback on this new machine. Thanks' for your expert overall opinion, and I have just been reminded that in years to come, I will look past that headlight......hopefully. Will have to wait patiently for this to launch here in South Africa.🙃
GSA 1250 All the way👌. Saw in person this 1300 and it looks like a Honda NC 750X. Yes this one is superior on several things but the charisma of adventure bike as gone
I am not a big fan of BMW but this bike is beautiful and so far is seriously changing my opinion of BMW.. i am really liking it.. i especially like how you actually explained all the features..
If you're not a big fan... you've never owned one. I've owned them all. Nothing compares to my GS R-1250. Interested to test drive the 1300 to see if the weight and shift assist are different.
It’s like the Jeep Wrangler models. BMW has to take chances and design bikes to sell and move into what they see as the future. I’m sure it will grow on me but for now I’m happy with my 1250 GS. Everyone has a favorite generation of GS model and that’s what makes it an interesting bike.
Absolutely 100%. I would say that the comparison of the 1300 to the 1250 is like comparing the old rugged Landrover Defender with the latest “School run” looking version. Perhaps BMW were targeting a younger demographic but how many young guys do you know that can spend 30k on a bike ?
This is the most beautiful GS I have ever seen. Love the all black look and new curves! I don’t own a GS and don’t have the budget but always been on my bucket list. My bike is also all black so probably a little biast but all black just looks mean
The beginning segment is SO close to my experience. I though I wanted to buy back a retro bike I sold before, did about 5 test rides, each time riding home with my own bike telling myself 'why the hell would I swap' and still... I did. Sold my R1250R which was SO good and got a Kawasaki Z900RS. Amazing bike, fantastic looks but I realise it's just not what I need, want or who I am anymore. I miss the BMW and will definitely get a new one as soon as I can afford it. Might even go for a GS for more comfort.
This is probably the "closest" review to what I would have made myself. I would also paint that side panel - AND the protection bars. I agree with your comments and it is one of the few times people admit that the "plain" GS is more suited for off road than the Adv. Having 2 cm extra suspension is not enough by itself (and after all, you can get it for plain GS too). GSA is worse for this kind of thing. Love the new machine and even like the new lights and yes INDEED people will learn to like this one (which actually lights A LOT better too). People talking about the Popeye lights being a trademark, probably haven't studied GS history deep enough. This bike is more capable on and off road - and actually RETURNS to GS roots more than anything. They set a new benchmark - again.
That shift is super smooth. The GSA will obviously be impressive when it is released. My hopes for that is a much longer suspension travel as I'm vertically challenged at 5'7" and the auto lower would work in my favour.
I was fortunate to put 10k (miles) on a k1200 BMW Great Bikes Loved it, but yes, at 5'9 i struggled at times turning around, or when we stopped... (And she's a Big Girl to pick up) LoL The most memorable time i had on a motorcycle Through BC Canadian area
In a shocking turn of events, I have always dreamed of owning the big GS and have had an F800gs for the past 8 years as a consolation. I go to the dealer this week to try the new 1300gs Test rode it Thought, man that doesn’t feel or look like a big Gs at all Then realized that the last of the 2024 1250GSA’s are the last of the great emperor’s And I bought my dream bike the 1250GSA Get them while you can folks No joke, they will go down as legends.
Regarding the turn signals in the hand guards. What I would like to see, is how well opposing traffic can see them in both daylight and in the dark. Of all the test rides I have seen, nobody shows this.
I was going to go down to my dealership and pickup a new 2023 1250 gsa but decided to wait watching your video. For someone who has been on a gs for awhile, your opinion matters especially you buying one. Those who do reviews and dont put skin in the game (purchasing one) really dont have too much credibility..some of the videos Ive been watching on the 1300 basically sounds like salesman. If you make a good product the product will sell itself. I am now a subscriber my friend. Enjoy and be safe. I CANT WAIT FOR THE 1300 coming next year to the states....
hi, Alex. Good review, good choice! Same story here. I sold my 1250GS and received my 1300 Trophy 14 days ago. I do share your opinions, althoug I would also like to add the drawback of the engine/ gear box sound. It reminds of sitting in an old trolley bus from the 60s as it whines at 3000rpm 😅. Anyway, the nimble feeling at thight corners at leaning angles as low as 50+° are really something else! This bike has it all, looking forward to offroading soon too. Located in the Zuerioberland, there is a chance you will see a quick blue blurr some day upon any mountain pass road 😂. So long
I cant believe I've never seen your channel before, very very professional editing and I love the triple black...you have my sub Alex and greetings from UK.
The first 1 min. It’s exactly needed to hear. Thank you. It’s my first time seeing your video. And it made me realize what I should do before it’s too late. So yeah. Same like you am departing. 🤝thanks.
I want one. I’m currently riding a larger powerful cruiser which is fine but I want to ride where my 2022 Triumph Rocket 3 GT (triple black, limited edition) dares not go. A BMW 1300 GS is tops on my list. Blacked out suits me just fine.
Congrats Alex Year round riding shows grit with confidence.Your choice of all black has appeal.Your opinion has real merit and look forward to my local dealership. Thanks
It's funny how the R1300 is out now. I bought my R1250 in October last year without the LED headlight, and I finally got the message they will install the headlight this saturday :D. They should have an R1300 there as well!
She looks epic im holding out to see what the 1300 gsa looks like hopefully as good if not better than the GSA . Enjoy you new stead Alex im looking forward to the series as she grows .🎉🎉
BMW redesigned the engine with more capacity making it wider so they were forced to place the engine higher (above gearbox) to allow enough clearance to lean the bike in the turns without the heads scraping the tarmac. Therefore this new GS has a much higher center of gravity compared to previous generations.
Really good video and overview of the bike! I'm just worried about how durable and reliable all the electronic aids will be, and there's a whole lot of them on that bike.
Had three GSs, the last a 1250 GSA which I found too heavy and tall, moved to Ducati and have really enjoyed the whole riding experience as I’m primarily a road rider. If I moved back to GS next time my choice would be yours, much prefer the looks but they need an Italian design team😉.
Nice bike, though the new headlight is not a thing of beauty... Other negatives, the covers for the cases connectors can be lost, stolen, easily removed, also in a sort of adventure bike there shouldn't be index lights on the mirrors (extra cost for replacement in case of break). Electronic adjustable windshield... Manual is just fine and less prone to failure. Seating position fits shorter riders, angle of knee for taller riders not so great. Also the look of a GS has always been that it is a massive bike. This new one looks modern but not massive... Perhaps BMW should have given a different name... Like R1300SGS (Sport GS) or whatever and have a massive, muscular GS bike that many of us admire...
Fascinated you moved from a GSA to a GS, most certainly the 13GS is impressive in every way, but I anticipate you replacing the 13GS w/13GSA when it comes out next year ;-)
Funny… I moved from the 1250 GSA (sept 2020) to the 1250 GS in dec. 2021. Never ever will go back to the GSA because - for me - the GS handles way smoother and quicker, more responsive than the GSA did. The downside of only having to fuel up sooner doesn’t matter since I always stop for a break before the tankcapacity is halfway burned. Besides - for what it’s worth - I like the looks of the 1250GS better.
Thanks Murt. I agree 100%. I rode one back end of Oct, in the pouring rain and I LOVED it!!! Spot on about the rear lights, Denali (and Steve at A Bike Thing) will be rubbing their hands, as ‘everyone’ is going to be buying additional rear light and that gizmo that sorts out the indicators. 👍
That bike is gorgeous. I don't really understand the hate for the new light set-up. I just picked up an Africa Twin with a very similar colour palette 😆 which I'm thoroughly enjoying. I'd love to get my hands on one of those 1300s in the future though. Might need to do a bit of overtime first...
I subscribed to the channel as this man sincerity it is all beyond any real person on this youtube that will make a review related to a bike or any emblem, I just bought an S1000R from BMW and I see it as the best choice for the given need, but how Alex it putting his feelings it s ... only respect for him, hard this days to find ppl that take a look on their heart and say what they feel. Congratz Alex ;)
We had the opportunity to test 2x 2023 BMW R1250GS about a month ago. For us they felt truly amazing and super advanced. (We made a spotlight about them on our channel) We can’t imagine how this upgrade must feel if you call the R1250GS a bit less of a tractor. Hopefully we can test the R1300GS soon also. Enjoy your bike and ride safely!
He was riding an older R-1200 previously. The most recent is the GSA R1250. The extra 2.5 gallon tank add 15lbs. Very significant when you add it to an already 20lb lighter R-1300
Hi Alex, that was a stunning ride in Argovia! Very beautiful landscape! I just wish I was following you with my 1250 GS. Thanks for this very informative review. Marc, Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦😉🏍
Congrats Alex. I myself with many adventure bike fan out there, excited to find more about R1300GS. The fact that it is more off-road biased adventure bike, it is really exciting. Unfortunately, I am taking a detour from my active off-road adventure to road now. Anyway, who knows what the future hold. I may consider to go back to off-roading 😆
Interesting new design and features. A pity the Quick-shifter is not "perfect" yet. The headlight is hideous. I expect BMW will change it in coming models.
The new bike looks fantastic, though the style of headlight on the previous bike was kinda iconic to the GS range of bikes. You'd see its DRL pattern in your mirrors and instantly be able to tell it was a GS.
As most bikes are designed these days, designed for shorter people.... i believe one of the resons the older GS/Adv's were so popular is they are one of the very few that are comfortable, especially on long journeys for taller/longer in the leg people.... born out by most people i know and talk to. I'm ready for a new one but i'll wait and see what the Adv is like, but i'm betting its smaller. Great content. 👍🤘✌👌🤙🖖👏🍻
Amazing bike, waiting for mine - 1 month to go. Waiting for you guys to adapt accessories to the 1300. I can’t wait for the upper crash bar!!! will your mirror work with the blind angle orange thingy?
The controls and how to use them are way to confusing. On mine I set them and will never again change them. No problem. I ride year round in all weather. The only concern I have is the amber flashing lights when I don't know what they are. Usually they just go away on their own. I never use a radio or cruise control. I have never understood why these two would ever be on a motorcycle. I started on BMW in early 60's in France and have owned and ridden everything in between. My current ride is the RT1200. Love it.
Thanks for good review. For sure this can't be the first bike for new riders . When electric version releases probably it will be even lighter and more enjoyable
I can totally relate saying that the 1300 is absolutely the easiest bike of the segment out there.. much more enjoyable to lean compared to others.. I had a test ride a couple of days ago and I felt sorry for having a Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer, which is a great bike but if I have to make a comparison, it’s settend on “hard mode” compared to the new GS
I always go triple black on my GS... will need to ride the 1300 to understand. Who knows, maybe I'll swap on the next-gen. I still LOVE my 1250 to bits. Lights wise, I alway go aux by night, DENALI that is... so that "flower lamp" in the front... it's symmetry :) I think I will wait for the 1300 GSA. I mostly use mine on tours (like 90% road) Lovely vid Alex. Black is RAD! 😝
absulutely nice, helas i got to stick to my 20 year old 1150 gs, bringing me from tarifa to northcape and some hills in between. i,m 70 now and only 3 years on this bike after a long period of R60 and R 80/7. beuatifull sounds and ridings, but the 1150 gs is the best. thanks for this revieuw
I ride the GSA and you are a very wicked man, because you’re the only person that is actually turning my head towards the r1300 GS 😅, I have one quick question, what helmet do you have there?❤
Me likey. No sales pitch needed. All good. Change is good. Ride what you love. Love what you ride. Life is short. Just ride.
What a machine, what roads, what landscape; so jealous!
I was really excited about the R1300GS, i went to the showroom to put a down-payment, but when i saw it and sat on it, i was shocked by how tiny it was! Can´t wait for the R1850GS
A lot of people have grown attached to the old GS and Will reflexively hate on the new model but it’s unarguably a more modern, sleeker and refined machine.
Love the blacked out look. Good job painting covers. I didn’t care much for the silver look. I think crash bars should also come in black.
You are the first one to make the 1300 look good!
I agree with you. He really made it look better.
Can't wait to see the 2024 video showing Alex trading its R1300GS for the R1300GS Adventure for a "back to basics" 😁
Lone Rider & Big Rock Moto is the only two opinions that matter to me, and you Alex, are the first to give your opinion/feedback on this new machine.

Alex, you are the coolest Dude ever. I really enjoy your videos on the BMW GS line. I have a 1250GS and I love it. Thanks again !!!!
I think you’re spot on with the light design. Eventually , we’ll all get used to it, just like we did previous versions. BMW know it as well
Rode the gs1300 today. Amazing !!!

Nice joke!

There are other bikes that fit short people better. These bikes are built for men.

This is one of the best motorcycle presentations I have ever seen.
it's a dream to get….
Man you got me with that intro 🫣🫣🫣
Clicked to hear your thoughts, stayed and subscribed because of the production level. Well done, sir.

why? man ageing like a fine wine, you can always buy R1300 your heart sing the same no matter what age 😁

I loved every second of this video! GJ Alex!
What an amazing well balanced piece of machinery.
Thanks for the video. I'm glad you've found your next ride.

The cinematography man……❤
It's all about the wind blast on longer trips. Super uncomfortable to me. I prefer the weather protection of the RT.
She looks epic im holding out to see what the 1300 gsa looks like hopefully as good if not better than the GSA . Enjoy you new stead Alex im looking forward to the series as she grows .🎉🎉

You made the wrong decicion by bying the Adventure. If you bought the regular GS you wouldnt end up in Ducati...
Beautiful! So nice to see advancement in bike engineering. We dont have them available yet here in Canada.
Alot of adv riders are downsizing to smaller lighter adv bikes, T7, 790, Transalpine, BMW needed to catchup. Hope you enjoy.
that's a beautiful area, man, I'd ride there all day :D Thanks for the review
Thank you Germany for your divine existence on this planet.

Great review! With any luck there will be a flood of heavy lethargic dumpy old 1250s flooding the used market soon! Lol

Amazing bike, waiting for mine - 1 month to go. Waiting for you guys to adapt accessories to the 1300.
I can’t wait for the upper crash bar!!!
will your mirror work with the blind angle orange thingy?
What an Intro! Excellent!
Switzerland? My god those roads! I just bought a 2024 BMW S1000 XR and i’m dying to take it for a holiday ride from Norway
Congratulations 🎉
ALEX - your Jedi mind tricks are not gonna work this time! you have already cost me $30K USD, and I am happy about it!
😂😂😂
Sweet bike. Looking forward to a test ride. Far less clunky than the previous models.
Love it.
I'm anxiously waiting til when BMW updates the RS to R1300RS. 😊
Amazing your riding skills on this fantastic new 1300GS is like a bird flight simulation on road. 🦅
BTW thanks for this really cool ride report 😎
Great video. I’ll be trading my 1250 GS for one once the first year of user testing has been completed.
Congrats Alex!
Lights wise, I alway go aux by night, DENALI that is... so that "flower lamp" in the front... it's symmetry :)
I think I will wait for the 1300 GSA. I mostly use mine on tours (like 90% road)
Lovely vid Alex.
Nice pitch. And thumbs up to the sport suspension - a little GSA feature in your new 1300 ;)
I ride the GSA and you are a very wicked man, because you’re the only person that is actually turning my head towards the r1300 GS 😅, I have one quick question, what helmet do you have there?❤
What a beautifull bike, beautifull color and your helmet is a dream. Keep riding safe, wish you the best. ❤
Hope you don’t regret buying a first production year beta testing motorcycle.
I’ll wait for the R1400 GSA
looks great Alex! Awesome to hear about long-term!
