So odd see your hometown on UA-cam. I was like - that's where we get our car washed, that's my favorite happy diner, that's where we adopted our puppy, that's our CVS.

Thank you for your comment. I currently live in Albuquerque,NM, but lived in Highland Park NE Los Angeles for many years. I am planning on returning to L.A and discovered San Pedro watching videos on UA-cam. It seems to be a lovely city. How do you like San Pedro? What are the pros and cons? Again, thank you.

Grew up there in the 60's. Vines record store with their listening booths, the Drive In, Fosters Freeze , Brown's liquor store (oh yeah)
Peck Park ,McGowans market, nothing like the morning smell of DiCarlos bakery in morning, crabbing at Cabrillo beach, last but not least, the best tamales
this side of Tijuana. Thanks for the ride down memory lane.

Yep! I lived with my Grandmother on 12th St. there during the mid to late 1960's. You mentioned the exact same things we did back then. I'm willing to bet we probably crossed paths at some point. Back then you could actually fill you net with crabs while we fished for king fish and whatever we could get. Pecks Park is where we would fly our kites off the hill, and who could forget the blue bridge and the Queen Mary at port. We also loved going down to "Ports of Call" and play video games on the boat that was docked. I remember finding sea shells way up the hill near the park and as a kid wondered how they got all the way up there.......Guess its a scary thought now that I know how.

So beautiful, my home. You should drive up Pacific though and show more of the town. You were basically just downtown.

You didn't go South of 22nd! You KNOW it goes all the way to 40th, right? Fort MacArthur, Cabrillo Beach, Point Fermin, The Palms, not to mention you didn't go above Gaffey (Peck Park, the Canyon, Oro Vista, Trinity, etc. The nicest neighborhoods). You cruised the projects twice, but didn't go to the beach?!?!? And what about the Fish Market? The ruins of Ports o Call? You missed more than half my town! You need to go for another drive, dude. You missed the coolest parts!

Also Providence LCM hospital and all the medical facilities on 6th Street, Peck Park, Green Hills, Home Depot, Target, Friendship Park, Korean Bell, Cocos, Marie Callenders, Garden Village shopping center, etc. Pretty much did not cover all of San Pedro west of Gaffey which are the nicer areas of the city.

Nice to see your tour of my home town and where I lived for most of my life. San Pedro is one of the many unique communities in Los Angeles however. It would have been much nicer if you would have taken some different routes and showed some of the great diversity of culture, neighborhoods, and local flavor which make San Pedro such a great community.

On the contrary San Pedro is not a city. The average person is usually ignorant to the technical fact that there is only 1 definition of a city, and yet postal mailing addresses are distributed among 5 postal definitions of city.
If I dumb it down, the definition of city is a municipal boundaries under a city council and Mayor.
I grew up a teenager during the 80’S in Watts, California in the city of Los Angeles 15th Council District. The other neighborhoods in the Los Angeles 15th Council district are, Harbor Gateway, Harbor City,!Wilmington , San Pedro, and the Port of Los Angeles:
Most people born and raised in Los Angeles are even ignorant to fact that 89% of the San Fernando Valley is the Northern half of the city of Los Angeles, covering 7 council districts out of 15.
Only Glendale, Burbank, San Fernando , Calabasas, and Hidden Hills are actual cities, Universal City is unincorporated county area like West Carson .
I know we are use to conflating everything until it’s time to vote for your Mayor and city council, then you learn the post office don’t exactly match city boundaries.

Grew up here in the 60’s and loved it. We lived on San Pedro Hill up above Western Ave and had a to-die-for view. Question for anyone reading this: Do they still paint that one squatty tank at the tank farm like a jack-o-lantern for Halloween?

    • @l4li.TV.

not showing the nicest parts of San Pedro. Keep west on 7th street to Weymouth. Left to Averill Park and hilly residential area then stay on Weymouth all the way to Paseo del Mar and Pt. Fermin. Then Cabrillo Beach and head back on Pacific Ave. Old Beacon Street demolished years ago and seems to have been replaced by bland mid rises.

San Pedro is not a city as Eric Garrcetti is the Mayor. Whenever there is random homelessness , trust you are in the Los Angeles City Limits. Just look most of the San Fernando Valley now with homelessness everywhere.
