- How do we spend the day as retired people, what do we do? We share a typical day with you and show you how we fill the day. There is still plenty of life to live and sometimes we can't fit it all into one day a day in the life of a retired couple.
Join us for our day in retirement, we enjoy life together as a married couple we are best friends as well as man and wife. The only difference to this day in our life is that the travel and public health restrictions mean we are at home instead of being somewhere sunny like Portugal.
There is no reason to fear retirement wondering how you are going to fill your days up. Life will just provide activities for you and before long you will be on retirement auto pilot.

I'm 60 and my last day of a full time career comes to a close at the end of the month.

Love that Norm brings you tea in the morning. My Yorkshire husband (of 34 years) brings me coffe almost every morning. He brought his 'teasmaid' with him when he moved to Canada in 1989, and with power exchanger 🤣...it's still going strong, so I don't need to make his morning tea . Tea,toast,marmalade and marmite...that's been his morning breakfast forever.😄
We are planning retirement later this year...and thinking we'll get away from loooong, cold Yukon winters by spending some months in the UK, with some trips from there to warm places. Have you ever spent large chunks of time back in the UK since retiring? We have a rental suite attached to our home, so lucky to have that additional income which will boost our pensions and help with renting something small (monthly airbnb?) in the off months in the UK.
Since retiring we haven’t been back to the UK 🇬🇧 at all , no reason to really and the weather is one reason why we left . We love visiting warmer places like Portugal 🇵🇹 or the USA 🇺🇸 we used to have. a teasmaid when we were England 🏴 Cheers 🍷🇬🇧🇨🇦🍺

I like to watch The "OLD CLASSIC Car videos on Y.T.They feature the old cars I had as a teen here in Canada.They were what I could afford and they were easy for a youngster to work on.1948=1968 Austins and Morris Minors.Bet you have seen one or two of them in British Isles! No computor modules to deal with and lots of audience when starting with hand crank in parkinglot!. Enjoy your Retirement Videos too! CHEERS

Great video. I like your 'groundhog days'. It shows the importance of routines, hobbies, mind stimulation & socializing. Once travel opens up the the addition of trips near or far sounds like a perfect retirement to me.

Your positive attitude is an example to all of us. There will be tens of thousands of people who have worked hard over the years and now have money to spend with nowhere to go, because of this virus. There is now a glimmer of hope for us here in NZ, Queensland is opening borders and NZ must follow soon, so this year we will be able to get some Winter sunshine with any luck. Is that too much to ask for after 45yrs on the treadmill.

Hello again Tina and Norm. It’s been a couple of weeks since I asked you a few questions. Thanks for recommending to look into the particular rental company as it does give me an idea of what and where to look when we decide to sell and possibly rent. We are flying out to Faro next week and as I mentioned that we rent an apartment in Olhos de Agua. It is located two minutes after you climbed the lengthy wooden staircase when you left the beach in your video. There was beautiful orange flowers at the top of the stairs overlooking the beach with a bench which you likely used. We’ve gone each year (except last year) for five years and we love the location. If we every were to meet there one March it would be good to have lunch at Adega Do Ze. If you haven’t been then you need to. It is fantastic food at prices that are ridiculously low. The people work so hard there and I am happy to be able to go this spring and help them out. Enjoy each other and glad you’re still having fun. From a fellow Algarve lover,

Creation of meanigful retire day stile is the most difficult things because now you are yours manager. Only from you everything depends, from your discipline and ability to organize your life. I think, for many people it is difficult to be manager for yourself. And many people have lack of friends or close ones. Therefore, if person has health and good job, it is better to stay as long as possible.
Maybe but remember there is a cycle of Life not to work forever but find a way to include retiring and enjoy that new chapter in your life Cheers 🍷🌺🙂

So funny, it's the same at our house but we are not retired yet! My hubby gets up around 6:30am to work on any translations he has... makes coffee, feeds cat and dog... then brings me up my coffee and vitamins 😜 then I'm off to work, and he goes to his main job at the airport to work with CBSA!!!!

Where did you find high interest savings accounts? We haven't had high interest savings accounts in Kansas, USA in many, many years. We look forward to your show every Saturday morning. When you start traveling, you should swing down to the MIdwest USA in Kansas. Lots of good restaurants, coffeeshops, and breweries. We'll show you around. :)

Question: Tina constantly asks you to agree with what she's saying (don't we, isn't it, don't you, is there, haven't we, etc). I've seen other English couples on reality TV and UA-cam and the wives did the same thing. Is that a woman's way of saying your turn to talk? Not that I'm being sexist. I've just never seen English men do it and I know we all have our little gender nuances.

Hi El, Yes all the editing on the MacBook Pro late 2013 edition has been the best computer we have owned. We use Final Cut Pro X because of our stock video business we like the ProRes codec for delivering commercial video and it’s native to Apple Mac’s

Another great video Norm and Teen. Hey Norm, you know the retirement "experts" say you shouldn't look at your stock portfolio every day. It tends to turn you into a trader instead of an investor, which historically proves to be a losing a proposition. You know what I say to that Norm? Hogwash! How can you have a large portion of your "nest egg" in a volatile market and not review it at least once a day? I can't. So it's great to see I'm not alone!
Suggestion: As movie watchers, I'd love to hear your all-time top ten list.
Great suggestion Barry about the movies. We very rarely trade more a buy and hold strategy but it has been a little volatile recently and we had some money to invest. Thanks for your comment.
We would all like to be somewhere else rather that wait through the pandemic. We've been to Portugal twice and loved it. Where do you generally stay, north or south and for how long?
In the Winter we go to the Algarve for one to two months we have been staying at Albufeira next time we will try a new place Cheers 🍷🇵🇹🇨🇦🍺

Hi, my wife and I are going to retire in about two weeks. Your videos help keep my anxiety in check as I’ve always had a job since I was 14 years old and the thought of not working is a bit unsettling. I’m starting to come up with ideas to fill my time (improve on my Spanish and get more use out of our billiards table) plus we both enjoy hiking so we’re looking forward to that as well. Of course we have grandchildren to visit and other travels but from a day to day standpoint this was helpful. 😊

I retired last August. It was really hard deciding on what to do with all of the free time. I write down a schedule. I have started taking water exercise classes and going to the movies. Other days I may go shopping, take a walk in the park or visit family.

I really enjoyed your day in the life video, as we like to talk and dream about what our daily life will be when we retire. Hello you two! I’m 57 and I’ve been retired for about a month now. I retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service at the tender age of 38 and continued to work at a different field since I was still young. Now I retired for the second time and I receive two pensions and compensation benefits. I’m not touching my 401k and social security yet because I really don’t need them yet. My husband will retire in a year with the same pensions and benefits and we plan to travel like you guys. Meanwhile, since he won’t retire until next year, I spend my days decluttering and reorganizing every drawer in every room in the house, lol. I’m also learning a third language. I also plan to learn a 4th language, the American Sign Language. I love your videos, keep up the good work!

At my retirement (on Feb 29 2024), we moved to a different house. Due to many failing knees / hips, we decided to move from a normal 4 bedroom 3 story home to a newer age 2 bedroom + 2nd story loft (aka: reading room) house. Yes. Much smaller size house with no basement but this one has an external heated 3 bay workshop. Wife says she needs me "out of her kitchen more often". Funny. Now, I'm even more busier doing mandatory DIY upgrades (like installing 3 windows in my new shop) and making our new home "unique to us". Now, I'm very busy working for me / working for us and "loving it"! As you can tell, I also love being retired. Should have retired 2 years ago - when my Financial Planner told me to retire.... If you can, retire and work on DIY projects you always wanted to do! Works for me.... btw: One does not really retire. They simply work on other things in life.... re: One's bucket list!

I must say the picture quality of your videos is excellent. I watch on a 77 inch OLED 4K tv (ie 40% bigger than a 65 inch tv) so the picture so good is impressive. The downside is I don’t see how I can indicate that I like a video on a tv and to do so have to go to my IPAD. We both enjoy your videos.

I know you travel a lot! I have dual citizenship with Ireland. My two sons live in Madrid and Prague. They want me to live closer. I find It’s hard to choose where to live! I thought Portugal but not sure. Tavira might be a good place but empty in the winter. What do you think?

Being defined for so many years by marriage and work, I have struggled since retirement. I really can't complain about it. But I do have this nagging sense I must accomplish something purposeful. Evidently, I am not the only one with this issue. You both have many suggestions on what to do. Can't say there aren't good ideas. Just doesn't fit for me. The point is, you are not my counsellor, but it is a concerning issue for me and others my age.
We are not any bodies counsellors we are just telling our story and putting forward ideas. You are your own advisor, we don’t know you.
Great video, thanks for sharing, however, if I were you, probably, just not care too much about stocks, charts, trending after retire. :)

Hi Tina and Norm, loved your show again this week. I had to mention to my husband that Norm tracks his stocks in two places and one of them being the Globe and Mail. Well that got him hyped up to get his down on the Globe and Mail as well. I think it took him like 5 or 6 hours this weekend but he’s very happy to get it there and to be able to easily see the progress. We plan on retiring in 2 years so we seem to be doing a lot of planning and talking about our immediate future. Thanks and continue with your tips!

We use Final Cut ProX on a MacBook it’s an Apple software and cost is about $300 We have been using it since 2013 and it continually updates and adds new features. It’s available in the Apple App Store for download.

It seems that we "Groundhog Day repeaters" are in good company with you and Norm. Seriously, it's a bit "odd" these days but we appreciate good health and are seeing gyms and movie theaters back...something to do while we wait for warmer weather. Getting some daily movement and enjoying the day...makes it slip by quickly. After 11 years of an early retirement I still find I don't have time to do all I want...that''s a good sign. Also, in this household the first cup of coffee is delivered in bed...BEST cup of the day !! Aren't we spoiled. Cheers !!

Hey Tina and Norm! It was cool to see "A Day in the Life" video. Butters LOVES the Beatles as well norm. Hot Cross Buns sound pretty amazing right now for a midnight snack... Butters family always got them for Easter (Catholic Family). It's wonderful that you're both able to exercise an hour a day whether walking or swimming. That's how you both stay so nice and trim.
