Can I LAND this plane? - Bonanza G36 trip. (ATC AUDIO)

  • Join me as I fly a piston for the FIRST time into St Barths (TFFJ/SBH).
    I'm used to flying a PC-12 to St Barths, however, the PC-12 has Reverse Thrust and an amazing Stall Speed of 64 knots. This numbers are not even close to a Bonanza, this obviously raised concerns during flight planning.
    So, Will I be able to land? Be ready for the unexpected!
    Aside from the obvious concerns, the Bonanza is such a cool airplane to fly! It's comfortable, handles well, and it is decently fast!

    Its makes me so jealous, this vid, and the way how to fly an beautiful route or plane, haha, I just did came back from an session, on the real simulator, from an B737-800, in amsterdam, and take an short flights, from Zurich and Basle, back and forward, and it did really well, had an cross wind landing, from about 15 degrees angle, from the runway... but it did really well, and alsoo trying to fly the same flights as you did Shamir, on the Prepar3d.... but its cant be that much of fun, than the reality, aspecially when you took of from St barths, thats just awesome!!! Love you flights and love you vid. Please dont stop doing this. :D

    A couple of things that will help. Bonanza is not a big plane you cannot let go of the controls rolling down the runway after landing, you are asking for a mishap. Holding the elevator full back until slow will give you better braking and aerodynamic braking. Holding the ailerons into the cross wind keeps the wing down and the adverse yaw will help keep the plane straight.

    Hi Shamir, I’m enjoying your videos... thx!
    I learned to fly at Isla Grande in the 1960s and flew once to St Barth in a Sky Master BEFORE they paved the runway. We had lunch at what is now the Eden Rock but back then was the home of Remy de Haenen who was the mayor of St Barth and used to fly to TJIG in his 310.
    Keep up the good work and stay safe.
    Saludos, Joey

      Thanks Joey!!!! Thats such a great experience right there. I wonder how takeoffs went with the longer take-off run due to grass-dirt combination and short runway... Glad you liked the video.

    • @backintheairagain9803
      @backintheairagain9803 4 роки тому

      They had about 400 of pavement at the beginning of the runway and then dirt all the way down to the beach... no grass. Also, no rules or special qualifications... if you thought you could get in there you just gave it a shot... maybe not as safe as today but a lot of fun... stay safe and continue as you are, your flying skills are impressive.

    Years ago I used to fly out of SDL Scottsdale alot. I would make occasional flights to GEU Glendale airport. When leaving Glendale I was forever calling them Scottsdale. "Scottsdale ground xxxxx ready for taxi to the active with xxxx." Finally one time my presence was requested in the tower to discuss my radio calls. Oh crap. The controllers were friends and it turned out they really wanted to discuss plans for a get together but they had me worried for a bit. Yep, they had me going for awhile. Then after that they would make it a point to say over the radio something like "Ron you know where you are right?" "You know this is Glendale right?" "Do you need a follow me truck to find the runway?" "Do you think you can find your way home by yourself or do you need help?" Nothing like smart ass friends in the tower.

    • @fersobe

      That is true! I have good friends at the San Juan CERAP which is the controlling agency around here and its very helpful from time to time! We've all been guilty of that kind of stuff!

    The most difficult aircraft I usually land in Saint barth is the Cessna 172S which has only 3 noches of flaps (the older ones have 4 noches), so when you pass the "Col de la Tourmente", it starts to accelerate.

    • @fersobe
      @fersobe  4 роки тому +2

      Yeah, the C172S can get a little tricky... the Older ones, as you said, get easier due to the added flaps....

    cual es la limitacion del compresor del AC en ese avion saludos

    • @fersobe
      @fersobe  5 років тому

      Saludos, el checklist pide que se apague el AC durante el despegue y aterrizaje en caso de realizar un Go-Around ya que el avión tiene una compuerta que abre para el aire y crea drag.

    One question, why You takeoff without flaps from St. Barths?????????

    • @piper0428
      @piper0428 4 роки тому

      All aircraft have are configured for takeoff performance based POH for that aircraft. I'not familiar with the Bonanza.

    • @fersobe
      @fersobe  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Saul... I might be wrong, but the Short Field Takeoff checklist doesn't call for flaps in the Bonanza G36 as far as I can remember. St Barths offers a nice downslope runway for departure and building speed up is easy.

    • @Hartbreak1
      @Hartbreak1 4 роки тому +1

      To include a little more info. Beechcraft suggested not to use flaps during take off in the Bonanzas since they discovered that it’s possible for the aircraft to enter a roll spin during a full power stall with flaps. That is because under such conditions the outer part of the wings will stall first thus inhibiting roll control.
