In this video, I attempt to repair a PS5 that is suffering from the dreaded Beep On-Off issue. When the power button is pressed, you get a beep, a very brief blue light and then it dies.
I had seen those types of ICs before in television applications. Seeing you place those tiny "small" spheres without using a template (mounting base)...whew, impressive! Excellent repair of that breakdown (BLOD). A sincere congratulations. Thank you very much for sharing. All the best.
@@ToltecMerc Thanks, teacher. Understood (BGA Reballing). I found your channel myself, by chance!, looking for how to repair an ADP-400FR Power Supply (for PS5) and I loved your explanation. Needless to say, I will be staying on this channel and will make an effort to watch all your videos to catch up. Thank you very much again sir for answering me.
I had a ps5 with the same problem it would power on then power off. I sent it to a repair shop, he was a UA-camr and he said that part that he needed was not available 😢 now I’m thinking it just needed a new chip like the one you replaced lol great video by the way
Excellent repair. A sincere congratulations. Thanks for sharing. Greetings. PS: I'm not sure but I think I saw in another video of yours that you replaced all those ICs and solved it. Another way of saying it, are they programmed from the factory? Or after buying them, do you have to do it yourself? I'll have to do a lot of research...
The memory ICs are not programmed, they can be freely swapped. It is usually considered best practice to replace with identical brand and part number. In the past, the code reader was not available to allow one to determine which RAM IC had failed so I changed all of them.
@@ToltecMerc Thank you very much for clarifying my doubt. I confused this type of IC with an eMMC NAND memory (they are preferably used in televisions, although there are also NOR types, although less common), which require downloading the firmware directly from the manufacturer's website (when available) and using a programmer . (RT809H) to perform conversions to Hex. Another way to put it: you made my day by saying that ICs like this don't need to be programmed. I remember an 8-pin NOR SPIFlash IC that you thanked Steve Bee for helping you with (I'll visit his page when I'm done digesting your content and then continue on to the website of a chubby German colleague who asked how you made pads), although there I will not read opinions from subscribers from whom I also learn and I really like to do so; It would take me a long time to decipher the subtitles). Thank you again for helping me (guide me) Master. An affectionate greeting from Mexico. PS: Then I will buy a couple of those IC's with complete confidence Ali/ss.
Toltec, you had a video a while back where you reballed the APU of a PS4 with a long BLOD. Did you take that video down, or am I just not seeing it? I have one that is doing the same thing, and I have roughly the same equipment you used. I want to give it a try, but I am a little afraid. It does boot when I put washers to give a little extra to the APU.
After watching your videos, was inspired to try my first PS5 hmdi port repair. Well let's say you make it a lot easier than it is. I did a trace repair for pin 19 😊. But My iron would not get hot enough to remove the solder from where the 4 connector legs get soldered to. Needless to say, hdmi port is melting near the pins. I never had this much trouble when I did a PS4 once. How hot should my hot air be to remove and place a new hdmi port?
I use my Quick 861DW at max temperature(500C) and max airflow. I use lots of flux and I add leaded solder to the anchor points. Heat from the bottom and be patient. Don't lift until it moves freely.
I had one like this, one pad under the ram IC didn't show any diode reading where it should (only 2 are NCs), so i decided to use a grinding pen where the line terminates into a via under the apu. Once I used the grinding pen the diode readings returned, very weird, put the same ram IC back on and it worked.
Yes. The software you see me using is not free. It is intended for businesses who repair consoles. You could try this: github.com/amoamare/PS5CodeReader
Thank you for sharing your valuable work and knowledge. I have a question. I tried to search for the log reading software and it's not free. Is that correct?
Thank you for responding. I saw another video of yours where you used the other tool. I tried the procedure on a PS5 with a 1-second blod but didn't receive any response. I've checked all the fuses, and there are no short circuits. Maybe the issue lies in the south bridge. I'll continue conducting another tests to see if I find anything.
I have a PS4 1200 model where I checked the southbridge and the bt5069a. The 5069 has no voltage on it but theres a 3-pin transistor that is getting 4.3 volts on the bottom where it's not supposed to be. I was trying to figure out where the volts are coming from. It's driving me nuts lol.
Buen día excelente sin duda eres un duro y sin mucho protocolo te admiro. Una consulta y disculpa como puedo obtener el lector de error y conque lo puedo leer por favor y disculpa la molestia gracias de ante mano
That info is freely available. Just download BwE PS5 code reader. You would need to pay to use the software but there are JPEGs included with the rar of all the different boards with UART points marked.
It happens with me but the problem is on RAM 4th when I replace it nothing happens the problem is turning on and off same on your video I reflow the 6th ram and it work how? idont now it just fuking work
@@BillCarrIpswich my stencil has spots for 6 chips. I have to mask off the other holes. I would probably need to clean it before use also. I use it if I have more than one IC I am reballing. Also, my results are much more consistent using balls. I don’t mind doing one chip by hand. It’s how I started out.
@@ToltecMerc do I infer correctly you use balls in the stencil? I always hated doing that - paste all the way for me. A folded paper towel under the chip and a piece of old touchscreen glass held down on top of the stencil always give great results for me. I must say though - you are very fast at manually reballing. I always have issues with static, especially with .3mm pitch balls on the phones I work on.
@ToltecMerc indeed. The PS5 wee tool. But AFAIK, it doesn't show the diagnostic reference. Just the error code which isn't readily available. I do some of it are on uartcode site

Very similar repair to GPU repairs. Its actually amazing how often ram fails. Due to
Connection issues… gotta love that lead free!
Yeah, lead free has caused so many problems. It's so brittle it seems. No flex at all.

If the washer trick works, you probably need an APU reball. Is it this video? ua-cam.com/video/IsWWbx4J818/v-deo.html
@ToltecMerc Awesome, thank you.
You are creative and artist If possible, what is the name of the program that you checked the device with?
It's called the BwE PS5 Code Reader by Better Way Electronics.

Hmmm. An internal board problem?
Nice fix. For that reason I am entertaining the idea of BWE.

Where do you find most of our information about these (and other) consoles? Do you have a certain site or forum you go to most often? Thanks!
There are various groups on Facebook and Discord. Try Game Console Repair Legion on Facebook.
Obviously, you aren't collecting all of the machines that you fix. Do you sell them to channel members or just locally?
I sell them on eBay.

Yes. The software you see me using is not free. It is intended for businesses who repair consoles. You could try this: github.com/amoamare/PS5CodeReader
woow that was very nice, i have a question, what is the software's name you used to identify the bad Ram?
It is the PS5 Code Reader from Better Way Electronics.

The BwE Code Reader software indicated which RAM IC was broken.
@@ToltecMerc thank you for the answer I appreciate it

Sure but none of them incorporate it in actual repairs like you do! Would be awesome to look at the process you took to get it working.
It would be good if you could show us how to use the uart to detect faults.
Surely there are other videos out there showing how to connect and read.
Could you tell us again the temperature and air flow of you heat gun please? I've cracked multiple HDMI IC encoder surfaces only with the heat... T_T

0.45mm
