The best art teacher I have ever seen in my life. He clearly teaches dark places in the distance and places surrounded by light ..... Very beautiful God bless .....
The first strokes he put down, I saw how small it was(smaller than ball point pen) and I thought, lol nah, still overwhelming even in a 3"×3" cutout lol but I live for the detail. Always have
Wow, you have the most detailed painting I ever see here in UA-cam. I have my first realistic painting using your technique. Thanks so much Michael for sharing your work.
That was a great tip on how not to be overwhelmed by the amount of details you have to paint... Im one that would be overwhelmed if i had to paint something as highly detailed as your painting in this picture... Great job can't wait to see it finished
Wonderful video, as always. You are the best artist and teacher this generation could ever hope to know. Thank you for your fabulous videos. I could just sit and watch you paint for hours. Thank you for your art school. It has taught me much. The two most important things I have learned are patience and how to "see" detail. Thank you!
I don't even paint Michael, but love watching your videos. I'm even thinking of taking painting up because of them, you make it look so easy. I know it isn't of course. I see you have a subscription service for learning how to paint at your website. Will this particular painting be one of the forthcoming lessons? Thanks for uploading the video by the way!
Just bought your brushes and panels! Can't believe how fast I got them since I live in the US. What a difference the right brush makes!!! Thanks so much!!!!
Sir.. I'm from India.. 🇮🇳 Sir .. I'm very much attracted by your Tallent ... ❤️.. Really great sirrr... I'm also an artist..not so good like you.. but I am just an art lover... Now I always want to meet with you sir.... One day, I'll be there with you sir... 🇮🇳 Lots of love 💗. Sirrrr ☺️
I like being able to compare what you are doing with the painting, to the reference photo/print. Cutting out the piece and sticking it right next to where you are working made that much clearer. It also helped me to see how you had blocked in that area, compared to the photo. I'm having a bit of trouble visualising those base colour blobs when the foreground trees are so dominant in my eyes - e.g. how far down the gray rocks reach before the treegreen starts, and that the midgreen tree blob in the underpainting stops at the pale green line of the grass, well higher than where the treetrunks emerge from the ground. My eyes are still too inclined to see the tree-as-a-whole shape and try to assign that an underpainting colour. By now I've learned to let the blue sky run on a bit at the edges so it can peek through, but I'm having more trouble with this in the foreground/mid-depth, and this was helpful for that too.
Great minds think alike. My photo-realistic paintings are more on the order of a combining together of 24 to 100 smaller subsectioned portions, but I just use a reference photo under glass, paint flat using a bridge and take my time, without need of computers.
@@WhatDadIsUpTo Nice. I made a small one to fit over little panels I double-sticky taped down. basically 3 sticks. Put some foam on the bridge part. Planning on making one on rails for my large panels.
I agree with the small portioning idea- I actually work off computer screen image- usually much better resolution than a picture- AND I can ZOOOM in REALLLY close to things like the eyes or a piece of jewelry or whatever so I can really see what's going on. Rubbish reference picture = rubbish art picture. Or at least much MUCH harder to "make up" the difference of a bad reference. Thank you, as always for the new vid!
Patience and passion. I appreciate your work. However a question just popped in my mind. If a painting looks like a picture and not a painting ( I understand the hard work you put in it and very much appreciate it ) then does it get the appreciation and value, it deserves on just looking at it by a viewer and not knowing its a painting?
Isn't this the art ... of painting ? The joy of the viewer being baffled and elated and then, enjoying every single point of it.... Art is art in every form 🙂
@@alvinadesir5801 I wish you would read my comment completely and understand exactly what I am trying to say. This is the very reason why the world, relationships and families are in turmoil.
If any of Michael's paintings are given to any lay person without telling that it is a painting, they will say that it is a photograph. Only an experienced art critique will recognize that it is a creation of an artist. That does not devalue the painting. It is an indicator of artist's ability and inexperience of the viewer. On the other hand the one who recognizes that it is a painting will understand the value , difficulties and the skills involved. That person will appreciate it in its true value. Everything lies on the beholders eye and experience in tasting art. Therefore an artist should not worry about how others will interpret his or her work.
Could you please mention the brushes you use like a fan brush or an angled brush etc and their sizes please in the video and the description box. Thanks. Your hyper realistic paintings are beautiful.....
First time watcher here...I really love your style and find your voice very soothing. Also, couldn’t help but thinking you remind me of a British Brad Pitt! Subscribed 😊
If you're going to simply render the photo, you might as well just use the photo. The key to good painting, is not to just copy what is there, but rather paint what's not there.
ive got a question please. ive got a bob ross started kid. but i would like to try something like this without wet in wet since i feel like wet in wet is very fast done. it takes me 30 min for a landscape.. i want something more challenging. can i use the started kid to start paint like you basically?
I am not good at using photoshop. Would you consider making a video on "things you need to know how to use in photoshop for artists" video? Adding grids, enhancing colors, sizing etc. As I find photoshop difficult and all the painters online just zip through it as if it's easy or common knowledge.
doing it in small blocks like that, are you worried you will mix a wrong color for a tree that is in an older block..... you wont be able to match the colors?
I’m looking for a good color accurate printer to print my reference photos. Could you please share which printer you use to make your print references? Thank you, Ann
i have an idea for one of your paintings....a beautiful spring time scene with lush grasses and trees and water and some florally greens...and in the sky, a contrasting image of a large comet streaking through the sky about to strike the earth in the far distance....fear and beauty all at once....if you're interested in ideas....if not the image is in my head
Artist grade paints are good I would suggest start with gouache/poster colours. This is to make one understand a bit about Visual elements. (Space line shape tone color pattern form) Then move on to either Oils/Acrylics. You can go for Watercolors too but it's a whole different game

You're painting is just amazing....
Hi Michael.....what printer do you use ?
Quais cores você usa para as montanhas?
A demonstration like this only comes from an exceptional talent and years hard of work. Greetings from Havana.

Steroids for attention, coffee for perfection.
Tell me about it, my stomach hurts watching how much patience I'll need but I really want to do it. So I'm practicing, will get better.

oh my god! What a realistic scenery is this! I had never seen this realistic painting before.not only me every person will be crazy fan for you.
Awesome! Would've liked to see the small detailed area next to some of the underpainting for comparison. But a very helpful idea, thank you!
