Leslie Nielsen accidentally slapped her for real and then did another one that was correctly missed. The shocked look on her face after the first slap was genuine.
@@windsorkid7069I never noticed that before, yeah, she didn't recover from the shaking in time to turn her head away from Leslie. Super kudos to her for taking it and keeping the scene going.
I want to say I remember that the second slap actually made contact - unintentionally of course, just an 'oops misjudged distance thing' after he turns back to her .. :P
There’s so many jokes in the movie and many are completely missed by the young viewers who don’t have the lived experiences to get the jokes. I vividly remember all the religious groups that would solicit in the airport. It really captured the feeling of battling your way into the airport. I was laughing so hard the first time I felt like I might pass out. I couldn’t catch my breath from laughing.
I think that they also missed that slapping someone who were becoming hysterical was a common trope in movies and TV back in the day. This fact made their overzealous slapping even funnier. I don't know how much it was carried over from the real world.
what cracks me up is the guy in the white shirt and orange smok after the nun is a Hari Krishna they are non violent and all the airplane noises are from a propellor plane and its supposedly a jet. its one of those comedies that has so many layers to it
What??? Non-violent??? You never were confronted by several (was never just one, they traveled in packs) demanding a 'donation' as they called it. They were much more aggressive back in the day. And it's "Hare", not "Hari". Just sayin.
So many of the young women reacting were unaware that slapping hysterical women was actually a socially acceptable method of bringing them to their senses back in the 1970’s and earlier.
You know what's the funniest thing about this, which everyone who lived back then will understand and agree with me, is that back then, that's what you did when someone was becoming hysterical...you slapped them to snap them out of it and get them back to their senses, which of course is exaggerated in this scene to make it funny...which it is. However, all of these younger generations are just sitting there shocked because of the slap and you know they are just sitting there clutching their pearls, thinking "They slapped that lady, that's inappropriate and she should sue them for assault!". I'm miss the day when people could just appreciate the humor and not get all woke and butt hurt because they immediately just feel that they would be stressed and full of anxiety and need their support animal...and completely miss the comedy aspect of it. LOL. By the way, that's still to this day the best way to deal with a hysterical person, even though you would be considered a serial killer if you did.
I agree completely. They were shocked! This was a comedy and nothing was taken seriously. They missed the boat on this one. Only a couple like Bissfix got it, maybe from her European ancestry.
Airplane was also a parody of the Airport Movies, which, if you never saw any of them, or any disaster movies back then, you really couldn’t understand the movie. I saw all of them on TV growing up in the 70s and 80s.
Stewardess: " Calm down, get a hold of yourself! **grabs and mildly shakes** Man: "Here, stewardess let me take care of this" **grabs and aggressively shakes** "Calm down get a hold of yourself!!" **continues shaking then slaps** Doctor: "Here, you get back to your seat, I'll take care of this" **GRABS HER AND SHAKES THE EVERLOVING SH*T OUTTA HER AND SLAPS** "WILL YOU CALM DOWN AND GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF!!!"** Stewardess reappears "Doctor you're wanted on the phone" Doctor briefly pauses, nods **SLAPS AGAIN" THAT moment where he shakes the hell out of her and then SLAPS her AGAIN before walking away cracks me up EVERY time lmfaoo 😅😅😅😅
I never noticed her husband slept thru it 😂 guess that second cup of coffee knocked him out And i agree with the others Leslie’s second slap was the best 😆
@ they take everything literally and the only reason they’re laughing is because it’s a reaction channel, most of them didn’t even laugh nor understand the context of the humor.
The slapping was also a common trope in older movies (1950s and before). Women were considered to be hysterical and needed to be slapped by a man. I'm pretty sure one can find a lot of older movies with such scenes. This is clearly a spoof of those scenes. And you're right, either they find the entire scene hilarious immediately or they just don't get it.
Does anyone get the point of the slap gag? It was based on the scene in Airport where the priest did the sign of the cross and the last hand motion backhanded the jerk who was panicking. Even funnier than this gag.
The "Airplane" movies were essentially parodies of the "Airport" movies. The "Airport" movies were more serious and dramatic, built around catastrophic/disaster situations occurring on airborne passenger jets. In turn, at least regarding the first, these movies were based on a novel of the same name.
"Airplane" was a remake/parody of the movie "Zero Hour". There is a side-by-side comparison of the two movies. Yes, "Airport" did inspire some parts, but not just by itself.
All these young people don’t know at airports way back then, you’d go though a gauntlet of religious people such as Hare Krishna, Christian Science, Jews for Jesus, Jehovah’s Witness or some group predicting the end of the world etc. They would shoving pamphlets in your face while you’re trying to get to your plane. The joke is that pilot is doing something that all passengers secretly wanted to do.
Do Millennials and Gen Z get the reference? Slapping somebody having have a panic attack to calm them down was an old movie trope. Not sure I’ve seen that done in a movie over the last couple of decades.
Most of these reactors are my favorites that I watch everyday, they are like my family, and now you sir are part of my family! Hey brother, Trump Won! Gloria in Excelsis Deo!
The actress that was being slapped, suggested and wrote this scene herself. They filmed it in one take and it made it into the final cut of the film.

- Second slap
Never gets old
I thought he might have had ad-libbed it and then I realized that she had to sell the slap so it was probably well choreographed.
I want to say I remember that the second slap actually made contact - unintentionally of course, just an 'oops misjudged distance thing' after he turns back to her .. :P
@@macmcleod1188: I think the second slap was unscripted, and actually connected
It was personal. It was Leslie Nelson. It was glorious.
No doubt about it Leslie Nielsen had the best two slaps in this scene 😆😆😆
Leslie Nielsen's second smack was the funniest part of this scene and one of the funniest parts of the whole movie.
Surely you can't be serious
@@JohnDoe-bz4yl "I am serious, and don't call me Surely."😆
He totally gave her one for the road. Classic.
Yes that second slap get me everything. Is a straight up I've been waiting for this moment vibe
The second slap by Leslie Nelson was the kicker
I’m glad someone else pointed that out. I loved how he had to get that extra one in as he walked off.
One for the road 😂
That s how we know it s real and he s a real one. He double taps
the second slap by Neilson is epic. Damn, that was FIRE..
"The gun'll fix it". I ❤️ Ashleigh Burton, I also love Leslie Nielsen's extra slap for luck 😃
The captain beating down them dudes while walking thru the airport was off the chain, too😂😂
back in the 70s the air ports were full of those people looking for donations.
Oh 💯 I remember!
Now they simply bother us at the store
The slaps , the globes , the tool , the gun , the bate , the whip 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shoot, a fella could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that.

I’m so glad someone remembers this, they were a nightmare.
Hell, I even remember being able to go greet or say goodbye to your loved ones at the gate without having to go through security!
Hare Krishna and Moonies in the airports. That scene hit the spot with what alot of people wished they could do back in the 70's and 80's airports.
This scene SLAPS!
That one guy was right. Robert Stack did all of his own stunts in that scene and he was in his mid 60s when it was filmed.
For 60 that's impressive, should do a mash up reaction on him from his trip to the airport to the fight scene
Just goes to show how tough ultra magnus is.
So glad I was young in the 80’ and found this hysterical without a shocked look on our faces 😂
Yo the 80s were a different kinda beast 😂
Leslie Nielsen & Robert Stack were the most hilarious
Robert Stack was also hilarious in BASEketball.
I'm grateful that you bring all of these great reaction clips together along with your own! Thank you!

Ever watch people get nuts in airports now? Maybe slapping isn't a bad idea...😅
Still acceptable, imo.
To be fair, no one likes the overly emotional people going hysterical in tense situations. They ALWAYS make things worse for everyone.
That second slap from LN was a savage hit
The woman with the gun always cracks me up.
what's even funnier, a baseball bat follows a gun.
You have a good point
She wasn’t gonna shoot her she was just gonna pistol whip her till she weakened

Great Content. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, you too!
Basic behave if someone freaks out in the 80s....it helped.
I love it when you hear prop engine sounds when the plane is a jet 😂😂😂to 😂😂 !
Airplane 2 is also 🔥
That second slap from Leslie Neilson is what did it for me
My favorite scene in the movie. I literally fell out of my chair laughing the first time I saw this.
You have to watch the whole movie to get Johnny. He's the guy that comes up with off the wall comments. He's hilarious.
He's my favorite character. "And Leon's getting laarrger!"
I forgot Joe Isuzu played a hare krishna.
That brings back memories. I haven't though of Joe in years.
He was also the neighbor that dropped in on "Empty Nest" with Kristy McNichol (such a cutie), and Richard Mulligan
Liala Naema looked like she took that slap personally 🤨
IKR?!
I love that it's not even working she's still screaming
Nielsen's double slap was as memorable as Charles Bronson double-tapping two thugs on that subway train in Death Wish.
This was back when we could laugh at funny stuff without all the baggage.
I never noticed her husband slept thru it 😂 guess that second cup of coffee knocked him out And i agree with the others Leslie’s second slap was the best 😆
“Jews for Jesus, Scieentologeee” 🤣🤣🤣
Johnny for president
The Mirandalorian is the only who understands the jokes and satire, the rest of them don't understand the humor and take everything literally.
“Don’t understand the humor”? Then why are they laughing?

lconic scene.
In 1980 we just laughed at this scene. Now, the shocked faces 😂
So this is the place that family guy joke came from.
This movie is on the Mt. Rushmore of American comedies.
Random question. Does anyone know that martial arts kick he does when he uses the one guy to vault him into the other?

The times when it was fun to get offended.

it’s a joke, why are some taking it so seriously ?? 🤦🏼♀️
Because young women have been brainwashed to mostly extreme liberal ideas.
