I was surprised with the lack of word of mouth about this game when it came out/I was playing it. It has its flaws but to me it does enough to separate itself from the abundance of trpg back then. That and I was an Atlus fanboy so...
I have never heard of this game...I'm incredibly intrigued and will most likely be getting it now. Glad I found this channel, as I'm dedicating this year to replaying alot of my ps2 rpgs, Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2, SMT Nocturne, Final Fantasy 10 & 12, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Star Ocean 3, and now also Stella Dues. everyone’s wrong about the best sprite art. there is only one true winner than stands above all else…in fact it was so powerful, that it became lifeless when it went to 3D. Kim Kaphwan’s Pants. They are god of sprite work.
With new PCs now stupidly expensive, I've made the same decision. Time to catch up with my pile of shame, Just hoping all my discs still work. Using PCSX2 rather than OG hardware. Shining Tears first up for me. Are you counting the Castlevania games as RPGs?
@@locloudanerpg Lament of Innocence is very God of War, Curse of darkness has levelling so could, just, be classed as an action RPG. I don't think you need to add to 160 titles tbh.
I'm just finished it on my phone, is not to hard to play it on ather emulator, and is a mazing game, if you wanna play psx, psp and ps2 our new phone models can handle it. My phone is an Xiomi Redimi note 9 and i'm enjoying a lot of games that i couldin't when i was young.
The unheralded GOAT of turn based strategy. Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, Triangle Strategy, Tactics Ogre....none of them compare to the mighty Stella Deus.
@@locloudanerpg yes, and Suikoden Tactics is a close second. Stella Deus is just majestic in a way that games just aren't anymore. The world, the artistry, the characters, the lore, the depth of the strategy and all the little things that only SD does. Stella Deus seems like a nice little srpg on the surface but it is far deeper than that once you delve into it. And the development team behind the game consists of some serious heavy hitters even though they're not particularly well known. The only area where Stella doesn't hit a home run is with the score but I always listen to my ipod when I'm doing long strategic battles so I really don't care much about the music. I've probably played literally every turn based strategy rpg ever from the big names to the indies and imo the genre hit its peak on the ps2. Stella Deus and Suikoden Tactics are the best the genre has to offer, although I slightly prefer Stella because of the beautiful art direction. The fact that Stella deus and Suikoden Tactics are the only srpgs that allow for team attacks alone puts them in S tier because the team attacks add a completely new layer of strategy that focuses on risk vs reward. The more time that goes by the more I realize how special Stella Deus was, I'm glad to see more people are starting to appreciate it.

However it can be quite hard, if you do end up getting it come back to this comment and let me know and I'll give you a few spoiler free tips that will make the experience more enjoyable if you like. Unfortunately The game is starting to get pricey online because people are starting to finally appreciate it but luckily it's also available on psn for a relatively cheap price.
You listened to a while audio book during a SECTION of the game? That’s crazy long! And they couldn’t even do unique sprites for those spirits, all of them equally uninspired? Crazy! But you are right, the sprite work and character design looks amazing, shocking this didn’t become a solid series. I love trpgs, really wish it had gotten more popular after the popularity of ff tactics and tactics ogre.
Oh yeah, Unicorn gameplay is amazing! If that doesn’t get a sequel or get used on a different game it’ll be criminal. Sadly I won’t agree on it being the best trpg for me as the story and majority of the characters are nothing but very boring and uninspired cliches, and I need my games to have a mix of good gameplay and story. If I could recommend a Trpg it would be troboushotter: abandoned children. It’s xcom like and have a rather slow start but an interesting story, likeable characters and great gameplay. I’m not sure why it’s so unpopular, maybe I’m missing something, but I always recommend it when given the chance.

I believe Valkyria Chronicles uses an AP system. Stella Deus is challenging game with great art direction
Thanks! Valkyria chronicles system only applies to movement, not attacks. That trade off is what really intrigued me.

😂 I think the first few characters introduced were terrible so it gets off to a rough start but after a while you get used to it.
You can mute the voice acting and keep the background music and sound effects on in the options menu. That's what i almost always do
