  • Look, I don't quite get this either
A solo map's difficulty is a mix of three things,
    1) your matchup vs the boss(es)
    2) your matchup vs the reinforcements
and 3) your matchup vs map itself, the terrain.
In this case Hubert could NEVER* (*for at least six months) beat Athos in a proper 1v1 - however the terrain advantage was so good that I didn't have to. The mix of open terrain and a barricade via flier terrain in the middle proved to be very effective for carrying Lyn emblem, and I'm fairly sure the clear would be impossible without it.
Lyn has its drawbacks, especially when you can't rely on ally assisted movement, by trading your movement for range. This means we have to be in position for our next launch the turn before firing. In general, this leaves Hubert extremely vulnerable, but it just happens to work here. I suspect that vulnerability will mean Lyn won't often be the play in the future - but who knows at this point.
And I cannot emphasize this enough - Hubert IS extremely vulnerable. This map features a number of exceptionally deadly reinforcements, even forcing me to go out of the way to snipe green enemies before they arrive in order to preserve health. In particular, the green mage we took time to snipe early on does an uno reverse on Hubert and instant procs Glacies thanks to Athos, which always OHKOs. There is simply no surviving that.
Other reinforcements of note are the sword cav who can blast No Quarters out with deadly consequences, the suspiciously fast Gust Lance Fighter who considers dying optional, and the Canto Control Spendthrift Bow who does not have any right to hit as hard as they do and created numerous traffic jams in progression attempts.
The build itself is fairly standard for the current solo meta, although there are some overlapping effects. In order to take out Ayra early and open up the right side for kiting, we are relying on the absurd pre-charge power of TP Echo, Blutgang, and Frosted Moon in order to proc a special before a combat has even taken place. Frosted Moon isn't strictly necessary and could be swapped for Glacies and a Pulse Up Ploy instead, but being able to slot Atk/Res Ploy for the atk drop helped a lot with keeping Hubert's HP above 25% to keep his weapon online, which is why we ended up with more charges and more piercing than you'd typically want in a build. The Res drop also helped secure a number of kills, as Hubert can't outspeed...well, anything really these days, so I am leaning hard into his one-shot potential at the moment. Best defense is a good offense and all that.
Aside from that it's been a minute since I was able to post a clear!
Nidhoggr and Laeradr didn't work out (although just barely!), and Lyn absolutely dumpstered me - the first time in over two years that Hubert missed a single boss map on its debut run. I'm hoping to fill you in on all that soon, but gotta finish out the abyssal season first.
I've got some snake wrangling to do and only five days to do it. Wish me luck.

When Hubert got his alt I defaulted to check this channel and see some more solo abyssals

I like how Arcane Giant Axe got abbreviated to "a giant axe". She just found it lol.

Amazing solo as usual! What do you think of Hubert's new alt?

His art is really fun! Day of Devotion was one of my top picks for a seasonal for him, so I'm pretty happy!
His stats are really bad! I feel horrible for other Hubert fans trying to use him in any real capacity. I'll have some fun with him in solos, but it will be very hard work to do things with him outside PvE.
