For a setup like that, a material handling fan would be best, but would cost probably at least twice as much and may need 230v/208v power. As for the duct, i cant believe the installer just jammed the ceiling up like that and left it. Thats just crazy to me. Loved the video!
Thanks for putting this video up on UA-cam. I have a Pizza Parlor in Downtown Sacramento that I may have to work on their exhaust fan for their kitchen. This will help.
Standard galvanized ductwork on a dishwasher hood. Cheap cheap cheap! We always specify welded stainless steel for dishwasher hood ducts. No rust, no leaks, no hassle.
I just recently came across your Channel I am hooked love the content that you are putting out very informational I am in my first term at Central New Mexico Community College for h v AC and look forward to watching your videos daily much appreciated for all the knowledge that you passed down
The bird screen- that’s something new I’ve not heard of before, but it makes sense because it affects the airflow, gotta check everything (airflow, motor, capacitor, etc.).
I do a lot of exhaust fan jobs. the majority of the times these units are repairable but you always have that one or two times that the unit is so bad with grease and stuff that you have no choice but to replace them
Dont get me wrong I can fix it, but like i said in the video the customer buys these fans for 800 bucks and it comes with a warranty so they would rather replace it.
HVACR VIDEOS I know you can it’s an easy fix but like you said sometimes it’s easier buying a new one then fixing it. I deal with unit that are very big so I sometimes have no choice but to fix it one way or another.
Chris if you see this message I'm checking out all your videos what was the name of that little tool you used to take the bolt out with i live in the United Kingdom and I've never seen anything like that before something like that would be great for working in my car engine bay
Good video, being that dirty does that effect how clean what they are trying to clean, get clean? Nother-words how efficient is that dish washer in the current state you found it upon diagnosis. Thanks. I actually have one of those thumb drives. Everyone who sees it is like "where did you get that"
I find Many commercial dish fans and ducts are like this . My opinion they should be type one duct work With grease rated fans with welded seams. Thus they can be washed down just like the kitchen grease exhaust systems.
Have you ever experienced a brand new exhaust fan with a faulty motor or capacitor? An electrician did numerous tests on power going to the fan. All checked out positive but no function on the motor. What could possibly cause this? It's installed in my food truck.
I would assume that if it's bolted down, gets introduced a lot of physical stress, then it corrodes and warps, it screws up the balancing and the clean run of the fan. The warping also probably causes a bunch of turbulence, so noise, vibrations, all sorts of garbage once you open that can of worms
Very rarely but it does happen occasionally, Thanks for watching, I am going to go live on UA-cam this afternoon 12/31/18 at 5:00pm pacific time to do a live Q and A session you should come over and check it out, there is a link below ua-cam.com/video/eeEo2u2X1rY/v-deo.html
Alu duct could dissolve even faster than galvanized, especially if you have alkaline detergents. Stainless is a quite good idea when it's always humid.
What's the health department got to complain about a bit of a ceiling gap? OCD seizure? I know it's not how the ceiling is supposed to be laid, but I'd be more worried about the broken ducting and the greasy fan than a panel gap that looks ugly.
I agree every body has their own work policy's and standards wether your an individual or company owned or operated subsidiary you still offer the warranty it varies I work on hood fans all day long just hood fans in Tennessee we have a silly hood insurance liability law that holds restaurant hood companys liable for any incident or fire if they determine the hoods had somthing to do with the fire or or started it every since we got the new fire Marshall my brother lost his steak house our mother left us in her will to a loren cook upblast that locked its own self down because it never got bearings greased couple months ago and he went to turn on he thought it was running and confused a loud Jacob's Humm for it just running
Got an exhaust fan very clean was told motor mount bolts need to be replace but customer decide to just replace the entire exhaust fan….it 115v 12.5amp I got it home and plug it in with an extension cord tripped break right away…..im thinking the motor is bad it wasn’t showing any resistance….I tested it at the switch…..the wires coming from the speed selector switch.
The company I did maintenance for had there own installers(these guys do it for a lot of there locations) install the dishwasher, redo the booster heater, plumbing, electrical, and a separate hvac company do the re-venting (they kept the same exhaust fan) That's the way to go, they all did a beautiful job. Ecolab just came and commissioned. But some places can't afford that.
When you tell them all the problems and your price of doing it, they would just call around and get someone cheaper, what i do is i dont tell them the problems, just fix the fan and they will call the next time to fix whatever that is wrong.
Thanks for watching! I can see some customers doing that, but I dont work for those kind of customers. This job was approved I actually haven't had the opportunity to complete it yet.
a $12 capacitor r+r. no way he will grease the motor though. No reason to change unit- it is called maintainance. His few hours aer not worth $1600 why we see the hack work a terrible industry of bad work.
Did you watch the video all the way till the end? The customer buys these fans direct from the manufacturer for 800 dollars, my labor to disassemble the fan + my original service call will exceed that amount. I actually dont benefit from them replacing these fans, I really dont appreciate you saying I'm scamming the customer. I'm actually losing money by them replacing the fan.
What scam ? Pay now or pay later . Labour is not for free. Talking this stuff apart is a nightmare. Brand new dishwasher with a 20 year old exhaust system. Thats just being cheap.
Nice to see someone doing good complete diagnostic work and trying to do the complete proper repair to better help their customers.
When he said he got that part at Sears/Kmart, I’m like how old is this video lol
You are the king of hustling up return work on a service call! You are the man love your vids

I will try and put more exhaust fan content up
Really appreciate the time you take on your videos to explain everything. Thanks for taking the time
Thanks for watching bud!
Crazy, that fan looks beans new on the outside unlike most your other videos!
Great video, Chris. Big picture diagnosis is super important. I love your channel.
Thanks bud!

Thanks for this video. I’ve had a few lately and I’m glad you gave some good advice.
The bird screen- that’s something new I’ve not heard of before, but it makes sense because it affects the airflow, gotta check everything (airflow, motor, capacitor, etc.).
Can you do a video installing the ductwork on one of these or a hood I struggle with these, would like some pointers. Thanks!
Good job 👍
That grease was nasty, nice video though!

Wow, it was nasty bugger. Yep, I think they made right decision on replacement. Ductwork t00..
Chris if you see this message I'm checking out all your videos what was the name of that little tool you used to take the bolt out with i live in the United Kingdom and I've never seen anything like that before something like that would be great for working in my car engine bay
excellent video. Thank you.
Great video! thanks for the advise.

Hi Engineer Very informative video and enhanced my understanding. kindly explain how to get proof of air flow in upblast exhaust fan
I find Many commercial dish fans and ducts are like this . My opinion they should be type one duct work With grease rated fans with welded seams. Thus they can be washed down just like the kitchen grease exhaust systems.
Great work there buddy
Where can I buy just the motor?
By health dept codes all of that duct needs to be SS DUCT. The customer with fail inspection again.
Above the ceiling you never see stainless on these here in so cal.
Have you ever experienced a brand new exhaust fan with a faulty motor or capacitor? An electrician did numerous tests on power going to the fan. All checked out positive but no function on the motor. What could possibly cause this? It's installed in my food truck.
I’ve always replaced the whole fan , I’ve rebuilt them and they never work the same
I would assume that if it's bolted down, gets introduced a lot of physical stress, then it corrodes and warps, it screws up the balancing and the clean run of the fan. The warping also probably causes a bunch of turbulence, so noise, vibrations, all sorts of garbage once you open that can of worms
i used to work for a vent cleaning company we can easily clean that fan without having to replace the unit .
How do go about balancing air after you replace those? Appreciate your videos always top notch!
Good job Man
Thanks bud
Great job!!!
Thanks bud
Out of curiosity, how often you see motor start/run caps fail, without some other contributing cause?
Very rarely but it does happen occasionally, Thanks for watching, I am going to go live on UA-cam this afternoon 12/31/18 at 5:00pm pacific time to do a live Q and A session you should come over and check it out, there is a link below

pop it up on its side and pressure wash the wheel and screen.... spray it down with coil cleaner first OR degreaser.
Good vid and good job ...
Thanks bud
Do you think aluminum duct would be an option? Not as expensive as stainless and less reactive to dishwash chemicals than galv?
My greasy goodness
Alu duct could dissolve even faster than galvanized, especially if you have alkaline detergents. Stainless is a quite good idea when it's always humid.
Good video
What about if the motor and fan is working but not pulling the smoke
that fan was hammered with grease(like they all are), dont they have companies that steam clean them?
clean grease filter at car wash
Where you can buy a fan
Every single restaurant says the same thing... "we just had it cleaned". Sure...
What's the health department got to complain about a bit of a ceiling gap? OCD seizure? I know it's not how the ceiling is supposed to be laid, but I'd be more worried about the broken ducting and the greasy fan than a panel gap that looks ugly.
So you give a one year warranty on the motor even tho you did not purchase it ?
Negative sir, the customer gets a 1 year parts warranty from the manufacturer. I warranty my workmanship for 90 days
I agree every body has their own work policy's and standards wether your an individual or company owned or operated subsidiary you still offer the warranty it varies I work on hood fans all day long just hood fans in Tennessee we have a silly hood insurance liability law that holds restaurant hood companys liable for any incident or fire if they determine the hoods had somthing to do with the fire or or started it every since we got the new fire Marshall my brother lost his steak house our mother left us in her will to a loren cook upblast that locked its own self down because it never got bearings greased couple months ago and he went to turn on he thought it was running and confused a loud Jacob's Humm for it just running

ahhh...another chilis...get into the grease ! 🤣🤣
Maybe they need a bit of filtration above the dishwasher to stop this grease going up
That vent pipe😬😬😬😬😆 yikesss!!!
Eco lab cares more about getting that lease, so they just throw those units in there.
The company I did maintenance for had there own installers(these guys do it for a lot of there locations) install the dishwasher, redo the booster heater, plumbing, electrical, and a separate hvac company do the re-venting (they kept the same exhaust fan) That's the way to go, they all did a beautiful job. And selling you ridiculously overpriced chemicals too, can't forget that!

Shouldn't be washing the grease filters in the dishwasher. Probably why the dishwasher was replaced to begin with.
👍
I love your videos but can you wear a helmet strap go pro and record everything please :)
And I mean everything
@@MadMax-yq9ix Including getting on and off the roof!
Oh that poor fine I hope it’s all right if it is I will get someone To take my beko 9 kg 1400 RPM washing machine
2020 anyone?
2021
Now 2021 that was 6 months ago in 2020
Bad capacitor and bad motor
a $12 capacitor r+r. no way he will grease the motor though. No reason to change unit- it is called maintainance. His few hours aer not worth $1600 why we see the hack work a terrible industry of bad work.
Cheaper to replace than to clean..hmm.... I smell a scam.
