"You can't solve all your problems with a fusion gun...you can solve quite a lot of your problems with a fusion gun, but..." Hah!! That is the art of refereeing right there.
I lightly follow the Mongoose forums, but I don't have any real insight into the Mongoose company itself. I didn't know of Martin Dougherty before this video. I didn't start watching this with any expectation of finishing the entire video. That said, I have a lot more confidence into the quality behind the Mercenary project after listening to this. Sure, it didn't have great editing or flashy effects. More importantly, the content is -solid-. Thank you for putting the video out. It was certainly successful for me. Thank you for not over-producing this video into marketing hype.
I played a year-long Mongoose v2 Traveller campaign with my group and it was certainly a lot of fun. We bought the core rulebooks (main core, vehicles, supply, and high guard), but opted out of the (admittedly popular) adventure/lore books. Mercenary works for me because it offers new core mechanics. Sure, I could probably adapt the older mercenary ticket system, but I recognize Mongoose's achievements in making original Traveller systems playable on the modern table. This merc system should be much improved over the previous iteration.
I have even higher expectations for the Mercenary set now. I know those expectations will be met. Thank you for making products that are actually worth it.

I posted this in the Mongoose Forums way back in 2016, concerning Bryan Gibson designs::
"Problems with licensing aside, I mostly wanted to see his designs stated up for the new system.
Especially ships like the Qasar scout cruiser. Along with the other cruiser adventure ships.
The fighting ships I would love too. I hate to say it, but they look better than the standard Traveller look. Maybe because they were designed in the 70's, and still have that kit m\bashed pseudo star wars look from the movies of the time. Gibson's stuff just looked more organic and streamlined for the most part.
Ships like the Perisher Dreadnought vs. the Plankwell for example. SO yeah ships like the Perisher, Lorimar, Diaspora, etc."
For this, I'm now wondering if we can get some of his sweet designs that they put in the T20 vehicle guide. Like the Grav Tanks or the Fast Attack Sled.

I played classic traveller for a number of years , and I have been looking at Mongoose's version. What I have gathered from watching the review videos is classic mercenary was broken up into 3 different items. The enhanced character generation expanded into mercenary specialists , the large scale combat , tickets and ticket generation and the administrative aspects of military life expanded into the boxed mercenary set and the ironmongery section expanded into the field equipment catalog. Would that be an accurate estimate?

Sort of - if you want to run a Mercenary-style campaign, all you really need is the Core Rulebook and the Mercenary box set. The Field Catalogue (or Central Supply Catalogue) adds more equipment choices, but they are not _essential_. Specialist Forces allows you to do more than just your normal infantry or armour mercenary unit, adding the real specialists such as void assault, cyber warfare, artillery, and lots of others.
      Hope that helps!

I'm hesitant about the Kickstarter but I think book one and book two could also be useful for the Pirates of Drinax campaign. Cool video though. very informative
