In the past when I would have the urge to purchase something I used to ask myself “can I make this?”. Most of the things I made were not as polished as what I could have bought, but they always got the job done. I didn’t realize until watching your videos I have not been asking myself this question for a while now. I don’t know when or why I stopped asking the question. Reflecting, some of my most internal keep to myself proud moments were making small items to serve a small purposes. Thank you for the reminder.

The last shot, the last few seconds where he shows storing the overhead shooting rig - just for a moment you see the little plywood plate attached to the leg to help it stay in position for storage. He just led us through the rationale for various other design and construction details on the pieces he shows, so that one can be presented both quickly and wordlessly and we know what the rationale is for that detail. A satisfying way to give your viewers a sense of connection to the material and realization that they have learned and understood. Inspiring.

I’m mounting a piece of aluminum extrusion on the loft to act as a track for an overhead camera (GoPro or other cam) & lighting. I can slide it back & forth to be over my desk or the laser. Creator trick to "store" the various tool pieces to a fixture. For example the drill chuck key on your drill press. I break open old hard drives to pull the neodymium magnets out. Then I slap one magnet on the side of my drill press and I can then just place the chuck key on it. As they are both metal it holds real well. I've found these small flat magnets very useful in many things. Enjoy.

Thank you for making and working and sharing and being. When I watch your pieces, I feel a resounding calm in the otherwise wild humming hollow of my nervous mind. That is a comfort you can't buy, and I didn't, and you shared anyway. If you ever see this, I hope it brings you a feeling of being not so alone in the droning noises of jumbled think that creative and hardworking people sometimes find themselves in. You sure help me.
Also, thank you for the history of the top down shot. I was familiar with Adnerson's use, but the tarot card shot took my breath away.

Love it. Own your mania for how you work! It's your brand. Glad you are sharing it!
Also, the corrections for things like mending plates are a nice courtesy, but don't do it just to discourage the haters. The spirited boys and girls here will figure it out. It's only the spiritless that will call you out.
Call them anything you want. We would love some "Spirited Man Van-acular."

Amazing how organized and catalogued the Neistats are. This must have been drilled into them at home, because very few people voluntarily does it - the Spirited Observer.

I feel connected to this dude in an eerie way. We’re very different people but certain characteristics we share are uncanny and it seems like the relevance of the content he produces could only have been the result of a sophisticated algorithm commonly used in the advertising we see every day as I was, within the past few days, making a mental list of different filming rigs I could make and use for when I eventually create my own content. Ive now expanded the ideas for the overhead rig, have a new film reference and have added more rig ideas to the list.

I used 1-inch SCH 40 PVC Pipe for filming a cooking. You don't need to glue it, just drill/tap 1/4-20 holes and hand-tighten a bolt.
