GORUCK GR2 26L UNBOXING!! Been waiting a LONG time for this one..

- Well, this is easily one of the bags I've wanted most for a very long time. The GORUCK GR2 26L sold out in just minutes when it came back for sale on GORUCK's website a week ago and I feel VERY lucky to have gotten one from them. This video ISN'T a review, but quite literally, the unbagging of the GR2 live with you :) I give my first initial impressions and pack it out for the first time!
For those of you not aware, the GORUCK GR2 26L is a very rare bag in the lands of Bagnerdia. This 2021 iteration is built in the USA from 500D Cordura nylon (with a ballistic nylon bottom) which should help greatly with the way the material wears on clothing. Expect a full review after I've had a chance to spend more time with the bag! It's going to be the bag I take to the hospital for my first baby's birth so it will certainly get thrown into a very important role!

The Goruck videos I watch, the more I want one. I’d also say, the more I see the Gorucks in 500D, the more I think that’s the better material for me. Thanks JT, well done.
I am definitely a fan of the 500D. And every bag guy needs a GORUCK in their life ;) Or 5, haha.
I am pretty happy they changed the material to 500d for this time around. Makes my 1000d GR2 26L still "special" to me. It's great to see a bunch of people that get to enjoy the greatest travel backpack there is. The size is perfect for any one bag travelers and it always fits underneath the airplane seat.
I prefer the 500D on a travel bag for sure. So definitely happy they changed over to it. It’s definitely a great size.
Man! I cant wait for goruck to put this bag back out again. Need one so bad.
They just finished a pre order of it I believe.

They are shipping them as they are finished so you might get lucky. Some people have gotten theirs already.

As far as I know they won't be coming back for a while. The GR2 34/40 will be back fairly soon though perhaps.

That’s fantastic. I maintain that Goruck with their GR1 designed as close to a perfect EDC bag as is possible. If there is a hill for that then I’m willing to die on it. For me the GR2 was never an EDC option but with a 26l it now opens up that opportunity although personally a two layer edc bag still feels alien to me. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts after you’ve had time to use it. The use of the 500d also made me wonder how both the GR1 and 2 would fare if Goruck made versions using the Dyneema that Tom Bihn favour in many of their line ups including the Synapse and Synik. It seems to me that as long as they could keep the laptop section sufficiently “bomb-proof” these could sell like hot cakes to the non-rucking non-tacticool folks
I definitely like the idea of the use of different fabrics. Would be interesting to see something like a VX42 GR1/2. As a photographer, the two layer EDC bag is something we've long been forced to live with haha. So I guess it moreso feels like going home. In any event, the GR1 26L with "the pocket" is going to be the king of the EDC world for a while longer!

Nice! Interesting to see that you prefer to use the can opener on your pocket knife for everything, too.
Sounds dumb, but I just don't like the idea of "wasting" the main blade on something like tape. Gets all gross.
@@jtinseoul7041 hehe, I get it. I use the small blade for yucky stuff that's hard to clean off and the bigger one for everything that goes into my mouth afterwards.

Good video I like the Goruck GR2 26L all of a sudden for me I think I like the 36L but it's okay, but I have a doubt with the 500d over the 1000d I hope the quality does not drop, the other thing is that they increased the price if they are placing 500D more Well it should be cheaper I have no doubts about the new construction of the GORUCK GR2, but the backpack is nice
No need to doubt 500D. A company like Mystery Ranch uses 500D on the most intense of military bags they make that are used in literal war zones.. and is trusted by armies all over the world. 500D is not necessarily a cheaper fabric, so the price argument isn't really an important one here. It's more different, than it is cheaper. All 500D / 1000D fabrics aren't created equal. In any event, this feels easily as tough as any other pack I've owned.
They actually decreased the price. The 1000d GR2 26L retailed for $475.
Hard to go by this as the prices change a lot. The GR1 was once $195 and then $395 and it’s been a lot of prices. So I don’t think considering the retail price really matters a whole lot. Too many factors at play.
Very nice quick rundown of the GR2. I saw them drop but I was not convinced, now I am :D. Can you share your loadout of the camera in the Evergoods CAP2? I have one arriving today and never thought of using it for my camera. Which camera cube have you ordered otherwise?

I've got a pouch / camera cube rundown coming up soon on the channel. I have have a TBB Roadie on the way that I'm planning on using :) also going to give the gr2 field pocket a go as a camera cube.
I never understood the appeal of this size GR2. My very first GORUCK bag was my original 1000D 34L GR2, which I got to do a little of everything: EDC, rucking, and travel. I found that it was too big for EDC, not great for rucking, and ok for travel. I got dedicated bags for these purposes: GR1 for EDC, 40L GR2 and GR3 for travel, kit bag for short travel, and Ruckers for rucking.
The 34L GR2 is shorter than a 26L GR2, which is disappointing as that is less horizontal packing space, which means stacking vertically which in turn is less helpful given the GR2 is split into two compartments. I found the zipped compartments less than useful as I mainly use packing cubes.
The best thing about the GR2 is the pocket in the secondary compartment (closest to the exterior slash pocket). Otherwise, I much prefer my GR1 and GR3 because they’re just one big compartment.
But different strokes for different folks. Enjoy it and looking forward to hearing how it (and other bags) work as a daddy bag!
Coming from the camera side, I much prefer to have my spaces separated so for me this is like a breath of fresh air edc wise. This is why I was so stoked to get the 26L version. I guess it really depends on the user. I'm quite a light packer so I also tend to not need more space than 26-30l no matter how long of a trip I'm taking.
I guess we'll find out more about how I feel the more I use it!

Agree, especially for travel purposes. Just makes more sense.
I have a 34L GR2. It’s a good bag, but the side access zipper pockets don’t make any sense to me. I prefer the top access pockets on the GR1.
I also agree, the wire dopp is the best tech organizer around.
I disagree on the laptop compartment. I feel like my laptop is going to break because it is flat, and forced against my back, which is not flat. I keel my laptop in the main compartment.
I've never had an issue with the laptop compartment myself, but I tend to use quite small and thin laptops. I've heard of issues on something like a larger Macbook Pro.
@@jtinseoul7041 Yup. I have a 15" MBP. While it fits in the compartment, I don't use it. I use that space for documents instead.

Unfortunately I don't have any info on that but, from what I've seen Goruck tends to be pretty good at keeping their word on things like that so I'd say November / December?

I’m on the wait list. I *need* a bag (my only bag gave out) amd finally have the cash for a nice bag, but EVERYTHING is sold out.
I'd say a good option would be to join the Carryology Classifieds group on Facebook. These bags come up for sale from time to time there if they aren't available new.

Mine's also USA made so can't really tell you ;) I have a Wiredopp mini that's Vietnam made on the way and planning on doing a comparison of them at some point soon.

The Wiredopp Mini came in. Feels very much the same aside from the mesh being a bit softer. Doesn't necessarily feel less robust, just not as "hard" if that makes sense. On the other had, the Vietnam Mini uses a UTX Duraflex buckle vs the National Molding one on the USA made one. To me, the UTX feels a bit more robust than the National Molding one.
Love to give a shoot to this bag.
But shipping cost to SEA is killing all😭.
How tall you are? Is it applicable for daily use?

Is the laptop compartment larger than the gr1 21l?
I'll check tonight but my guess is very similar.
@@jtinseoul7041 interesting. goruck states the Gr2 26L laptop compartment is 16.5" in height on their website but i measured my GR1 21L to be around 15-15.5". Still looking forward to receiving my soon!
I'm sure whatever they state on the site is right. The laptop I normally carry is small so I probably wouldn't tend to notice until I was getting ready for the proper review.
It does indeed look slightly taller than the GR1.

Still on the fence about 500D/Ballistic Nylon on the bottom. Haven’t heard of a convincing argument yet to convince me switching from my trusty 1000D GR2 34L. Although one good thing to like about it is that according to Goruck CS, they arguably won’t be creating any more GR2’s in 1000D Cordura , so that means the value of my bag just skyrocketed
I don't tend to think in terms of the value of the bag. The best argument I have is a very nice hoodie that got pilled up because of my 1000D Slick. I like the feeling of the 500D in general but that's for sure a subjective thing. If you've not seen any issues with your clothes then I guess there really wouldn't be a reason to switch out. I'm mostly just stoked to have the 26L version because as a small guy it fits me a little better.
