I have huge internal battles with the Australia Day. I'm indigenous on one side and FIST FLEET the other..My ancestor survived that journey and I'm proud of that. I'm also proud very proud of my indigenous background
I'm an aboriginal man. Australia has a lot of problems, we aren't done improving and growing but I bloody love Australia. I'm so proud to be Australian. I'll die on the hill that the day should be changed to May 8th, Mates day for Australia day. Ain't nothing more Australian than that lol Bless those aunties too ❤
I agree we should change the date to Jan 1st for Australia day because that was the day we become one nation when all the states were unified, I also think we should celebrate Cook on his birthday because he was one of the greatest mariners of all time and not an "invader" There are many wrongs that need to be righted but being racist towards white people does nothing but grow even MORE resentment and the whole idea about reconciliation is that BOTH sides forgive each other...
@Fcuk Gogle you're uneducated if you think aboriginal people need to apologise. Cook invaded Australia and with the British empire deemed the land inhabitable even though my ancestors were there. They chose to not declare my people as human to claim the land for themselves. Aboriginal culture is the oldest surviving culture that we know of, hundreds and thousands of years my people lived peacefully in sync with the land. We were then invaded, killed off in the thousands. Detained, segregated, turned into slaves, an entire generation of children stolen. Our life expectancy is 20 years less than a white Australian, we're way more likely to develop terminal illnesses, we're more likely to be killed by cops, we're more likely to be targeted by racism. This was less than 250 years ago. 56 years ago our constitution changed to say aboriginal people ARE human. No where near equal opportunities yet This is not an equal blame situation, the birtish committed disgusting acts against my people. Not only have they tried to bury what they did, they've built the entire system around benefiting themselves and to push us back under the rug. We aren't asking for much, we're asking for recognition of the last pain and the pain still felt today. We want respect, an end to racism and equal opportunities and chances for our people. Of course racists can't rationalise this argument
Australia Day was implemented officially in 1994, under the ALP under Keating. On purpose, for this very reason. For division. Prior to the Whitlam years, everyone celebrated Empire Day, and knew they were all British Subjects, including singing God save the Queen. That's the generation that finished school in the 80's and prior. It took most of the 80's & 90's for the sell off of public assets, hiring or government workers (not public servants) changing names, corporatizing things and all manner of frauds to hijack Australia our from under the Common Law. Stop bitching about what happens and start questioning why these things happen.
Every nation deserves a day to celebrate the hardships of those that built that nation. What day do you propose for that celebration here in Australia?
Quite right, they really make bankrolls just having these two sides try to one up each other don't they, the whole lgbtq and climate alarmist bs just adding fuel to the fire
I spent Australian Day in the most Unaustralian city in Australia Melbourne. All they had was a racist protest full of hate speech. There was no Australian flags 🇦🇺 flying in the city there were no Australia Day celebrations. Well none that I could find anyway. I was a disgrace.
These parents saying they don't want their kids killed or picked on by police seems a little bit off. I mean, if they don't break the law then, they won't. Simple right.
Oh cool, you're an idiot. No, it's fine buddy just put your opinions on the internet without understanding socioeconomic position's impact on criminal activity. And maybe research why they're in that position.
I don't get why they don't just change the date. People still get to celebrate the amazing country we live in and there's no people getting hurt by it. It's a win-win.
First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay on 20 January 1788. why is the the 26th an issue when its not the same day as when the first fleet landed? ill tell you why because no matter what the day these people landed these other people will hate you because they are racists, anything done in history by a white person is bad and must be removed. That is what they think and want period
Changing the date does nothing for the aboriginal people in rural areas. Most of them don't give a fuck, they have far bigger issues on their plate than changing a date of a holiday. If these protestors actually wanted to help, they would be donating or offering help to areas such as domestic violence/drug and alcohol abuse/youth crime.. Yet they don't do a thing because they don't really give two shits. I live near Cairns, kids as young as 10 steal cars and go on joy rides, with no punishment. The best thing you can do is give these kids guidence before they turn into life long criminals. These kids don't give a fuck about a holiday when they're not even going to school.
How can you even begin to compare the two countries’ experiences. Britain was the home of a global empire which colonised other countries for centuries and so it shouldn’t exactly be surprising to see immigration happen to it, at least from the Commonwealth countries. Besides that, immigrants to the UK- no matter which way you want to spin it- aren’t in the same situation as the British when they arrived in Australia
@@benm7453 I could use any country with a native White / European population as an example, It's the exact same scenario where they're supposed to celebrate demographic replacement in the name of diversity. If anything the Aboriginal people of Australia are racist for resisting your beloved diversity that was completely lacking until European settlement. Edit for the record Australia was conquered not stolen, if the anglos wanted to genocide the Aboriginal they would have done so easily.
2:18 Ignoring aboriginals? We take every chance we have to virtue signal about aboriginals. We have acknowledgement of country, even a welcome to country, aboriginal flags everywhere, a movement for indigenous voice, and for 3% of the population we excessively virtue signal about this and we can’t just have one day of the year where we celebrate settlement in our country.
These lefties are unironically a total product of american colonialism. None of the usual white guilt tactics can apply to ireland, their ancestors built the country under oppression and occupation. This is one of the most grounded, well rounded and powerful pieces of journalism to ever hit youtube. The 26th of January is a day to remember the beginning of oppression and theft in our country not to celebrate the "founding" of Australia.

The term ‘terra nullius’- used to imply Australia was uninhabited, or ‘nobody’s land’ was only removed from school textbooks in 1996. Some context to explain the generational dissonance we see in this video. It always was and always will be Aboriginal land!
Problem is, if it was always Aboriginal land it would have remained in the stone age as it had for the 10k or so years prior. A lot of having your cake and eating it too going on here.
Ha no its not its the kings land mate. Australia was taken from stone age tribes and has become a modern nation. The aboriginals have no written language or proof that they are ethe oldest culture. Sure people may have lived here but if you went back to talk to the first people in Australia you would find that their culture and language is very different to the modern black feller languages. You did not own the land and their are no written claims
I’m proud of this great modern nation of people like Nathan, who confidently misuse idioms, and this Datsun guy who can’t spell. P.S. I don’t have a written claim over my dog but that doesn’t mean she’s abandoned
@@i0.0t Mate you would have written proof that you own the dog as you would have a receipt for when you bought it. Also black fellers did not have permanent settlements like the Aztecs or Egyptians. They also had a written language hence they were not cavemen. In Europe we would call the black fellers cavemen if they were white but whatever I guess.
And the truth is that 70 to 80 % of Australian people still support the Australia day, and that is according the latest statistics, but of course people can have any oppinion they like, which just in retrospect shows how egalitarian Australia actually is......
I'm mixed ethnicity NZer and if it wasn't for colonization I wouldn't exist and neither would the majority of NZers both Mapri and Pakeha. The same would be true for Australia. I think the wrongs of colonization should be acknowledged and where applicable confiscated lands and treasures returned but we all benefit from western society.
Of course they don't because at the heart of the issue is their refusal to celebrate and honour the hardships faced by the people that first settled and built this nation. They view this settlement as evil, which is their right, but is not a nuanced view and will not lead to any compromise.
@@rtmpgt It was actually 6 July that it was ratified, 7 July that it was signed off by the Queen and 9 July when it became law in Australia (which is already celebrated as Constitution Day). Unfortunately at this point in time WA had not yet agreed to become part of the Federation which didn't happen until September. Regardless the constitution, while fully passed into law by 9 July, was not effective until 1 Jan, the actual date of Federation. This of course is the obvious choice for a date change for those that desire it except for the unfortunate problem that it is New Years day and thus already a celebrated public holiday for entirely unrelated reasons. It's a shame because the date of federation would otherwise be such a great candidate that would allow those who wished to celebrate the events that lead to federation, as well as others who wished to only celebrate our achievements since to all celebrate on the same date.
sad to see young people have nothing better to do then protest about the stuff that's not a problem, then do something about the wrongs and injustice that actually effect all Australians lives thats what American influence has done to us cant wait to have to a country leave again

If that's the case all benefits and privilege the 1/200th aboriginals get can be taken back. Hell they can also be held accountable without excuse for their actions.
Nah. People like you will always allow them to be the victim and to also make people not even racist or involved to feel shame and guilt for things we had no part in.

I have huge internal battles with the Australia Day. I'm indigenous on one side and FIST FLEET the other..My ancestor survived that journey and I'm proud of that. I'm also proud very proud of my indigenous background
With all honesty what is there to be proud of?
I'm an aboriginal man. Australia has a lot of problems, we aren't done improving and growing but I bloody love Australia. I'm so proud to be Australian. I'll die on the hill that the day should be changed to May 8th, Mates day for Australia day. Ain't nothing more Australian than that lol
Bless those aunties too ❤
I'm with you mate. Proud Aussie, but just change the date so everyone can celebrate.
I agree we should change the date to Jan 1st for Australia day because that was the day we become one nation when all the states were unified, I also think we should celebrate Cook on his birthday because he was one of the greatest mariners of all time and not an "invader"
There are many wrongs that need to be righted but being racist towards white people does nothing but grow even MORE resentment and the whole idea about reconciliation is that BOTH sides forgive each other...
No where near equal opportunities yet
This is not an equal blame situation, the birtish committed disgusting acts against my people.
I thought june 1st because thats when the national flower blooms
I used to walk past Captain James Cooks birthplace/cottage everyday growing up,in Marton.
Best thing that the Labor Party has ever done, and I don't even like them

I don't get why they don't just change the date. People still get to celebrate the amazing country we live in and there's no people getting hurt by it. It's a win-win.
Because the activists won't give up when that happens
@@chrispekel5709 This, and also because the reasoning for changing the date is a big fat lie.
Because they will just keep complaining and continue to say "change the date"
You guys should go to Alice Springs and report there....
This is a great insight into a decisive topic. Thank you for your hard work
It's not divisive, Australians love Australia day, racists don't, who cares what they think?
@@falconmclenny7284 ok neo nazi
Imagine if the indigenous English had this attitude towards immigrants, they would be labelled racist.

@@i0.0t It's not a misuse at all, unless you're comfortable with the idea of living in the stone age
9:13 "survival day" that's the one because if it didn't happen we all wouldn't be here
All these change the date rallies. Does anyone suggest a day though? or will this just go on forever?
Of course they don't because at the heart of the issue is their refusal to celebrate and honour the hardships faced by the people that first settled and built this nation. They view this settlement as evil, which is their right, but is not a nuanced view and will not lead to any compromise.
@@goaway9977 This guy gets it
July 1. It's the day Australia was federated and the Australian constition was ratified.
@PGT Oh man. Winter. Boo 👎
5:57 dude's so gone you can hardly see his irises
