Aqueon makes a plastic handle with double-sided tape that stick to the aluminum frame which is convenient. That said, I hate to break it to you but with the way you cut the mesh in the back corner you may as well not even have the lid on there. If a wrasse can fit his head through a hole he can jump through it. It's usually just a matter of time. I learned the hard way with a McCosker's that I had for about 8 months. I had the same type of mesh top, but I had a cutout in the back corner of the tank for wires and a Kessil arm bracket. There was an opening about 1" x .5" that he used to go carpet surfing. In my next tank, I designed everything to be 99.99% covered by using a plastic backstip from Perfecto that I could cut to exact size for any wire or bracket entering the tank.
Thanks for the solid tip on the Aqueon handle, this would come in handy! Bummer to hear about the McCosker.. I'm hoping the hole being not at the edge and sitting mostly above the overflow would help, but hey man, if this dude could make it through that hole and out... he earned the right to chill on the carpet.
About 5 years ago when i was knew to this hobby I thought yellow tangs were juvenile purple tangs. I picked one up and after 1 year i was like hold up this is weird. I searched it up and I felt like an idiot even to today
I know this video is old but I just did the same damn thing. Looking at fish online and seeing my what I thought I bought a yellow coris wrasse and looking at actual yellow coris wrasses. Wondering why my wrasse had a white belly then I researched yellow and white coris wrasse and came across this video which I newly subbed too this channel
I was gonna buy an Emperor Angel and I ended up with a Koran Angel. I kept him anyways until he passed away. I might get another one now knowing the difference between the two as Ive grown and learned my lesson. Had no regrets though
unrelated but I have to ask. You did a vid on your 10 gallon and I'm a budget reefer so I need to know! you said that your hydrometer is usually off AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE, which direction is off? to high or to low. Side note, where do you like to keep your salinity I try to max it out.
Ive been wanting a yellow wrasse for a long time now after mine jumped ship a year ago. Until today I haven’t gotten one cause its always sold out so quick. The other day i went to the store and saw what looked like yellow wrasse and i told the owner i wnated one of those and he was like wait whuttt. He was like thore are yellow candy hogfish. I was like oh shit lol do you have any yellow wrasse too and he said yea he has one but when he tried to catch it it dove under the sand bed and he didnt want to mess up the sand so he told me to come back another time. When i went back the next time after they got a new shipment, he said all the yellow wrasses have been places in their coral tanks and cant be caught too. Wtf i still haven’t gotten that wrasse yet....
Inappropriate Reefer such a coincidence. 2 hours ago a worker at the lfs texted me and told me a new shipment just came in. First thing i asked was if they had yellow corris wrasse and he said they had one left! I booked it immediately. They only had 4 come in this shipment and 3 were already booked. Lucky i booked the last guy. Finally after like a year i have a yellow corris in my tank again!
That looks identical, perhaps different common name? Somebody actually dropped the scientific name on my IG post and it flew right over my head, let me double check..
@@InappropriateReefer We called them White Belly back then, I've never heard it called Silver Belly before. I thought Lemon Meringue was rather pretentious, but I didn't come up with it. I did like your video, nicely edited.
@@melevsreef I guess Silver Belly sounds more expensive, lol! Thank you for the feedback btw, laying the video clips over a narration was easier to cut together too, whenever I don't have a video clip for a particular part of the story, I could just revert back to my talking head... I may try more of this format in the future!
Well I bought a green wrasse about a year ago that’s now almost full grown and never did turn green. 😡 It’s a silvery greige colour with some tiny yellow and aqua blue stripes near its gills. People have said it’s probably a female.....but I cannot find any info anywhere about this possibility. 🤷♀️ It’s still attractive, very active and healthy though, so of course I’ll take good care of it. 😁 Your silver belly looks lovely! The fish I mean....😂😂
Hmmm, I've been thinking about a midas blenny as my next fish because i want a splash of yellow aswell, but i may need to reconsider.......btw, yasha looks good. Mine dove into the sand when i transferred him out of quaritine about 4 months ago and has never been seen again :/ Literally scared to death is the only thing I can think of.
Yikes, sorry man... I have had 2 other Yasha females that disappeared on me after trying to introduce them in this tank for the lone male... btw, I had a Midas Blenny before, beautiful fish, but one thing that really bothered me was that he swam all the time in the water column... very awkward to see a blenny swimming all the time instead of perching.
Looks like you got a yellow silver belly wrasse. Gets a bit bigger than yellow coris wrasse. More aggressive. May not play well with other wrasses. Yellow coris are more easily bullied and dive into sand and can stay “sleeping” for days to weeks sometimes if bullied. Yup, wrasse jump. Lunar wrasse and melanaris wrasse nice too. Lunar can be a bit more crazy and aggressive. Melanaris more mellow but can be bullies too. One other group to look for are small Christmas wrasse and pencil wrasses.
Good to know, thanks! Yeah this guy also disappeared the first day or two but has been bold ever since. My female clown has become a serious jerk recently, maybe it was a blessing in disguise that I got the bolder silver belly...
Your tank is always looking great, man and your fish is pretty nice. Reminds me of the three wrasses I wild caught, they were sand divers and swam and moved exactly like yours. One was completely black and the other was gray with black markings. The third one had some red stripes on the side. I kept them for more than a year but was never able to identify them. Anyway, they ended up jumping out (not at the same time) because they get spooked easily, was really sad. So make sure you keep that screen top on. Just my experience.
Thank you for the heads up Rip, wild collecting sounds pretty amazing, still looking forward to a chance to tag along with you in the future. We almost decided to head back to Philippines next month... but I think we may be heading south to Mexico instead this time.
@@InappropriateReefer Yeah, you know you're welcome here anytime. Just let me know so I can be there. Sad story, I tried introducing Mustang to the 45g as I was taking down the Dropoff tank, my female clownfish made very short work of her... pulled her into the refugium but it was too late. =/

I have never done a reef tank before but I see yours and it looks fantastic but I have a subtropical that is fresh water and have kept tropicals from neons To Oscars that are full grown and mouth brooders and albino catfish that was approximately 15in long but I have been looking to go to marine tank for a while and your tank is my inspiration just so that you know I am in the UK so more power to you.
I’m thinking about getting the wrasse that you thought was a canary wrasse. I like the look of the two tone that the yellow and purple wrasse has. Also that is its actual name I’m not just describing its color.
@@InappropriateReefer nice, I see in a few others you go to ricks also.. they’ve really stepped things up here lately with better corals and fish.. have any other local favorites? Or semi local

I think the silver belly looks better. And just to add I like your background music. Every time I hear it I now associate it with you.lol.. Appreciate you sharing your story and looking forward to update on your new tank build. Hope you're having a great day brother👊😎
Nice to see someone local doing reefing videos , do you still go to fintastic?
I still go there! One of my favorite LFS in the area
@@InappropriateReefer nice, I see in a few others you go to ricks also.. they’ve really stepped things up here lately with better corals and fish.. have any other local favorites? Or semi local
