The Show- Me state has countless treasures hidden that are just a short drive from St. Louis. This weekend, we take a dive into one of Missouri's oldest communities.
I had never heard of Ste. Genevieve until I caught a random UA-cam video about the town. We decided to go last weekend during the off season, and we were captivated not only by the history of the town, but by the people who live there. Kind, wonderful business owners who were happy to tell us the story of the town, of their businesses and of themselves. One of the highlights was getting to meet artist Sam Conlon, the owner of "Rust", a shop that specializes in metal work that can best be described as creative and quirky. She took the time to tell us about her life and how she got started in metal sculptures. Just a lovely, lovely person who views the world through the eyes of an artist. Where others see trash, she sees a Picasso. We also had the pleasure of meeting Kandye Mahurin owner of Sassafras Creek Originals and Country Store. She is an avid history buff as well as a shop owner who carries hand crafted items you might find in a colonial mercantile. Kandye's humor and kind spirit are a joy to be around. As small business owners ourselves, we could certainly empathize with the trials of running a small business especially during a pandemic. Go and visit but don't just look through the museums or the shops. Get to know the business owners and the people of Ste. Genevieve. And please, be a patron of the arts and small business owners.
It’s a decent looking town with some interesting history, but WOW people that live there are very strange.
