A good Merc indie garage would give the same read as a main dealer for less money. Get a local recommendation from one of the MB forums.
Don't forget to get a fix done on the exhaust bracket before if fails elsewhere and cost you even more money. There is probably a bolt on bracket that you can do yourself but it looks as if a few dabs of weld will do the trick. I like this car.
A mobile small repair guy should be able to do the wheel arch OK. Possibly at a good price if you give him some air time. You can do the patch underneath yourself and maybe anything that shows up under the sill trims. Idea. Do the first stages under the trims and then let the arch guy flash them in while he has the gun out doing the arch. I think it deserves a modest expense budget especially if you are going to rack up the miles smoking it around. If you spent £500 I'd consider it to be value added.

27, keep those vent drains in FRONT of the windshield clear. If they clog it will leak into the cabin and short electrical things that are expensive to replace.

This is such a great car for you Jack. See if you can complete the project with a total of 2,000 pounds. Do all the work yourself, of which I know you will. I noticed the Merc has brought a lot of smiles to your face. Well done.

Dare I say it but I prefer videos on cheap shonky eBay barges Jack than anything else and your video’s are always the best mate whatever car it is.
My Mrs has a battered old diesel Mercedes which she refuses to get rid of and the engine light has been on for 4 years on and off and only stays off long enough for the Mot with my trusty cheap £10 code reader as going on the Star diagnostic would cost more than the car is worth.

There's something to be said for an old barge for covering motorway miles. I had a Saab 9000 auto with all the options that I picked up for beans and just ran it up and down the motorway commute. Much more relaxing.

Jack, you have to be the only car owner who got under his car and said “ it’s disappointingly good” . Best of luck though, I bought a 55 plate last of the line S320cdi lwb limo to repair and run around for a bit, it was a complete shed from front to back and totally uneconomic to repair, so off to copart it went…..always think about it though…..

70% of the health check from the dealer will be stuff that doesn't warant doing on a w220 of that age as there health checks are based on keeping a car as new as possible but no car is allowed to enter and leave without a health check so at least it will be piece of mind .it does actually look quite tidy I've certainly seen a lot lot worse when they were 5 years old

The bent track rod is worrying, other steering parts might have been severely stressed too, might need to look at the rack too? The rear brake thing, is that definitely the wear sensor that has been disconnected or a wheel speed sensor? Some cheap brake pads for many cars don't have the wear sensors so they do get disconnected, often the two pins need linking too.
A lot of car for the money I wonder if an engine oil change might help with one of the codes, perhaps an engine flush first? Looks like a little work and this might be a good car...

Perhaps 27 should emphasize that outside of UA-cam, buying an old VW, Audi, Merc or BMW is a very unwise decision. These cars are only engineered to last for the warranty period and are very complex and prone to expensive failures. Indeed, in terms of reliability, 9 of the top 10 brands are Japanese, with the sole European marque being Porsche, which comes in at number 10. Bitter experience speaking here!

A lot of cars have loads of fault codes ,it's if they come back on when reset.Once you have a comfy car there is no going back .God help you going to a Merc dealer .Do the work yourself and pay a body shop to do the rust

If its classical music, it probably should be Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, lol.

Absolutely incredible that in UK you can buy a 5 litre fully tooled up luxo barge for less than a grand. Straight steering wheel and tracked up will get shut of the ESP fault. Wouldn't touch a Merc main agent with a sh**ty stick though. Independents are far more knowledgeable, far more committed, and usually ex MB mechanics who can think for themselves so don't need to hide behind dealership structures.

Good cars for relatively low money!!!!! I drive a Volvo S80 2.4d, they are also cheap to buy and drive very very good en has al the options for that era. You can buy them also for 700 till 1000 pounds/euro and you drive a hell of a car!!! Make the s-class and drive a nice cheap car!! Greetz from the Netherlands , ramon
