What a great flash back. There are very few new female artists who can conjure up the rawness, the bottom of your gut believability that you hear when you listen to Kelly Willis sing. I wish she would have been more famous. When I hear kids these days listening to some of the things they listen to, I always tell them go and flip on youtube and find a Kelly Willis video, now that's real honest country.
>>>> "I wish she would have been more famous""". Why on earth would you wish such an awful thing on someone ???? If you do a bit of RESEARCH you'll discover Kelly CHOSE not to be famous.............
I remember seeing this when it first aired on PBS. I was in college at the time and became a huge fan of Kelly's. I had recorded the performance (on VHS, of course) and kept it around for a few years until I lost it. I am so grateful to you for posting this. This song in particular was always my favorite and I thought I would never see--or hear--it again. It's a beautiful song and really displays Kelly at her best. Thanks again!
I had the chance to ask Kelly why this song isn't on any of her CD's and she said they did record a version for her self titled third CD, but for whatever reason it never made the final cut. I still believe that if Tony Brown at MCA hadn't convinced her to break up the band she would have been much more well known. They absolutely smoked on this ACL performance!
Great vintage clip by Kelly who've I've been following for over 20 years-Went to a lot of her earlier shows but haven't seen her in past 5 years-Check her videos out on Texas Connection-I have all of her CDs and vinyl 45s- Wrote several stories and reviewed her CDs while writing music for a newspaper in Wharton Texas
Kelly is my all time favorite female singer.
