I’ll be honest 16gb in 2 months is a red flag. Working in cybersecurity. There is absolutely no reason why you need that much data to be transferred from a bed. Might be sending other traffic.
No kidding, I would assume max would be 0.3GB and that's a lot already. 16GB in two month seems extreme. That's my UA-cam, plus Instagram, plus Gmail usage on my phone in two months.
If it didn't have the datacollection, always online to work, subscription thing, I'd seriously consider it. Lets hope more more competition for this comes out.
DO NOT BUY. I purchased the cover and while it was great for 3 mos it developed a small leak. Customer service has done nothing but give me the run around. I have been requested to send in pictures of the leak, which I've done, FIVE times. There has been nothing done to let me know how or even if this will be fixed, exchanged etc. If you want to drop a lot of money on this product just be aware that the customer service is none existent after the purchase. Buy at your own risk.
17GB across 60 days is 290 MB per day. And assuming it only transmits data while it is in use, AKA sleeping, that's 37 Megabytes per hour. Since I assume there are no cameras on the sleep pod, that data must be sensor data. Yeah, super concerning.
Shervin! You need a ‘health’ bedroom phone - old phone with a basic sim. No socials, no messaging, ALL health apps, inc. Eight Sleep, breath work and stretching, Spotify, etc.
Your other device that can't connect to your wi-fi may need a dedicated 2.4GHz network, which is simple to create in your router's admin control panel. Just make a 2.4GHz network with a unique name and try connecting that device. Thanks for the review!
This review is great, love your content! I've had the Eight Sleep mattress for a little under 6 months now, and the features are amazing. It has changed how I've slept, and changed my sleep behavior. I agree it's annoying that you can't change the temperature without using your phone - i have the luxury of repurposing my old phone to just be on my bedside with night mode always on, a black wallpaper, and only have sleep-related apps on the home screen. That way I don't wake up from the really bright screen, and am not distracted by a bunch of apps pushing notifications when all I'm trying to do is change the Eight Sleep Temperature. Autopilot is amazing, but so expensive... I hate that i have to pay for a subscription for this. But it's worth it to me.
How can you trust a review that he was likely paid for by the company that makes the product he's reviewing? He needs to be upfront about that in the video which he's not, at least within the first few minutes. Didn't bother watching the rest of the video.
Hey, Shervin! I love these new styles of videos! I mean, the B-roll is professional and that intro was catchy! I love how you make videos now, a significant improvement from 6 months ago! Keep up the great ideas and work!
I was curious how this thing worked and sure enough you provided all the information needed in an entertaining way. Thank you for your efforts on this one.
16.5gb of data over 2 months it is collected a lot more than sleep data, likely pulling all kinds of data from your network or other aspects. Each day should virtually be a text or log of some kind and should not be a requirement in the size of a few KB. The day I pay a subscription service to sleep in a bed I already paid for is the day hell freezes over.
Why dont people get creeped out that a company is collecting your sleep data and selling it? Im old fashion...summer turn the air condtion and to keep the cost down put a small $12 fan by the bed and in the winter an extra blanket, flannel sheets and/or electric blanket. KEEP LIFE SIMPLE!! 🥵🥶
I’m not paying a subscription fee to go to bed! Seriously though, I hope they steer away from that business model. Just focus on expanding the product reach instead. If the product’s that good and the selling price is profitable to the company, it should harvest great results.
Great candidness here. Love the style. Things I can relate to from the video: - I love to be as productive as possible - I'm wide and oddly shaped - "Adding the 2 inch memory foam. So far it's working - It's not working"
Someone might have already fixed this for you but you can separate your 2.4 ghz and 5ghz bands. Go in to your router settings (if you need help, type the model of your router with whatever you want to know about it into youtube search and surely you'll find something). Anyway, change the name of the SSID of each band so they show separately on the network. You can give them separate passwords too. It's helpful if you have WIFI plugs or lighbulbs that only use 2.4ghz. I had to do this for my Mum so her IoT devices would work. 😊
I must say, I have it, I had to get used to it... The 'cold' is bit of a strange 'cold'... meaning, the bed doesn't really feel 'cold' as laying on the floor or something, but... you do feel it after a while... as a sort of 'extracting the heat' of your body. 1 slightly disappointing thing is the noise. All reviews say it's quiet, and that is mostly the case, till you hit the 'cold' or 'extreme cold' option, then... it makes really some noise, bit to much to sleep through (for me). As if you have a computer on all the time.
8 gig per month 😳... what the hell is it sending?!?!? Sleep data should be text based and should be able to be zipped and send in morning/nightly batch. 8 gig a of data a month is crazy.
The membership fee is a rip off. Maybe £5 a month max. But an option of £14 or £22 is a rip off. If it didn't have the monthly fee. I'd consider the subscription. Subscription model is the reason I didn't go with ring door bell and spent £1000 on eufy system instead. No sub required.
Love the review, lots of charisma. There's another thing that wasn't touched on for Eight Sleep, a negative factor that once you know the truth, will keep you from buying one. EMF (electro magnetic frequency) in the form of bluetooth and/or WIFI is damaging to the human body...but never moreso than at night when you are sleeping. The body communicates through small electrical impulses and WIFI interrupts those impulses. You should never sleep with the phone next to your bed unless it's in airplane mode. And worse, you should never, ever charge the phone next to where you sleep. You'd be shocked how much dirty electricity comes off the charging cable which can be measured with a meter. So the fact the Eight Sleep requires WIFI/bluetooth runs counter to anything it happens to be doing for you. Your sleeping area in particular should be as EMF free as possible in order to secure a good night's deep sleep. In addition, blue wavelength light (which is what comes off your phone) shuts off Melatonin production in the brain and cells! So the fact that Eight Sleep requires you to click your phone on in the middle of the night, AND even have it next to you for 'easy' access, shows me that they have no clue what they're doing when it comes to sleep. They F'd themselves in more ways than one for anyone who knows what's what. Sorry not sorry Eight Sleep.
Another big thing you should mention is that everything you just said is pure speculation. that's not to say it can't be true, WIFI exposure could have some minor adverse effects later on, but there is currently no scientific nor consistent evidence that supports a link between wireless device usage and other illnesses. it's okay to be precarious, but it's never okay to misinform 👍
Seems cool but there is no reason that thing should require wifi and the subscription is annoying. I guess, the manufacturer uses all that data to optimize and improve their code by charging you $15/ month.
Is there any data to show the maximum range for room differential between the ambient temperature of the room and the temperature of the eight sleep? For example, if a room were 90 degrees, what is the lowest temperature you can expect from your eight sleep? Knowing this would help us to set our air conditioning temperature.
I'm definitely not interested in using wifi directly around me while I sleep, I have it turn off at night on a schedule. I definitely don't want anymore crap attached to my phone and absolutely not directly on my body. Also, having my sleep data being uploaded to a corporation's server isn't happening for obvious reasons when absolutely none of this is needed to simply choose what temperature I want while I sleep. I do love the idea of having temperature control on both sides as my partner is always cold and I'm always hot. Unnecessary App, Wifi, and other unnecessary and/or anti-privacy requirements just killed this product for me, but this inspired me to research and look elsewhere to see if any other companies are getting smarter about this; also the cost being higher than organic super high quality mattresses and other sleep devices is crazy. Great review either way, cheers.
just FYI, wifi cant hurt you, the power is too low. its basically the same thing as red light (electromagnetic waves), just weaker. You wouldnt hide from red light, would you? You have a lot of radio waves going through you anyway, which is pretty much the same thing too
I hope you can answer this honestly. If I have access to regulate the precise temperature in my room at different times with a nest thermostat do I need the Eight sleep cover?
Interesting product, however they ruined it with the needless forced internet connection, of which 8 gigs a month leads me to believe they are sharing more data than needed for it's function.
Interesting, I have mine set much colder 62 - 58 -64. Some of the best sleep i've ever had in the past month since I got this thing. Thanks for the review!

I bought this super expensive mattress and it's been just over one year and the hub stopped working. I've contacted support but it's very very very frustrating so far because they have been zero help. I wouldn't recommend this mattress to anyone.
It’s around 30-35 dB. I had one hub that emitted 60 dB so I got it exchanged for free. But the 30-35 db is annoying, because I am not used to any background noise when I sleep. I need to wear earplugs
