    Awesome video and great timing. I'm currently working on my CFII while at the same time re-instating my initial CFI. No other person in the world has been producing videos like yours. Thank you again Todd. Your knowledge and expertise has helped this pilot (me), tremendously.

    Hi Todd, I know this question may be beyond your purview, but why isn’t Sport listed under 61.185(a)(2)? Aren’t we allowed to train Sport Pilots after we receive our CFI Airplane cert?

    • @ToddShellnuttCPC
      @ToddShellnuttCPC  5 місяців тому +2

      The reason "Sport" isn't listed under 14 CFR 61.185(a)(2) is that Sport Pilot instruction falls under different regulations because it has its own set of requirements and privileges. The reason for the separation is that Sport Pilot certification is designed to be a more accessible entry point into aviation, with lighter aircraft and less stringent medical requirements. Because of this, the rules governing training and certification are distinct from those of higher-level pilot certificates. Although CFIs with an Airplane rating can train Sport Pilots, the specific requirements and regulations for that training are found under different parts of 14 CFR. The absence of "Sport" in 61.185(a)(2) simply reflects the distinct regulatory frameworks for different types of pilot training. I hope this helps.

      @@ToddShellnuttCPC I get the gist of what you're saying. In short, although Sport Pilots fall under 14 CFR Part 61 they don't need a medical, are limited to flying LSAs, combined with a host of other limitations, allows them special consideration and exclusion from 61.185(a)(2). That makes a little more sense.
      Thanks Todd! Great videos btw.

    Hey Todd, I have a two questions… what if you went ahead and took the written test for FOI and FIA without receiving the endorsements, would you recommend giving those endorsements anyways even though they already have already taken the test?
    Also, per 61.185 and 187, we need to have logged ground training for the areas of operation. I go to an accredited 141 school and have taken their CFI ground school class would that be able to count for the ground training received in 185 and 187 if I was being certified under part 61 and not my schools 141 flight training curriculum?
    Thank you and your hard work you put into these videos. It has been so beneficial in my training!

      For your first question - you only need the endorsements to take the practical test, not to take the knowledge test. So I would recommend getting the endorsement prior to your check ride. For the second question, yes. A 141 graduation certificate certifies that you meet all of the requirements for the practical test. Hope this helps.

    The US military does the instrument rating in a flight simulator only.

      Good point - but do they do not use civilian instructors to do this? Not sure what specifically your comment is pertaining to. This video does not cover nor pertain to CFII ratings or authorizations.

    Quick question, is the CFI ACS suppose to come out anytime soon? I heard you say June 2020?

    • @ToddShellnuttCPC
      @ToddShellnuttCPC  4 роки тому +1

      It WAS scheduled to be released in June of 2020 (the updates ACS are always June), but was delayed due to the pandemic. Look for it in June of 2021 now.

    thank you Todd awesome video as usual, can you please explain the difference between 61.183(c)(2)(i) & (c)(2)(iv)?

    • @ToddShellnuttCPC
      @ToddShellnuttCPC  5 років тому +2

      Sure! 61.183(c)(2)(i) - There are many categories of aircraft, this section one deals only with Airplanes. It states that if you want to be a CFI in a airplane, you must hold a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating in the respective cat/class airplane you want to instruct in. In this case, single engine. Example: You are a commercial single and multiengine pilot, but do not have instrument privileges for the multi (multiengine VFR only limitation). You could NOT be a multiengine CFI.
      61.183(c)(2)(iv) - States that if you are applying for a CFII in any category of aircraft, you must have an instrument rating already in that cat/class. Example: You want to be a CFII for rotorcraft, you MUST have a commercial instrument pilot cert.
      Hope this helps!

    Hey Todd I like your channel. Thanks for putting this content out there. I am requesting a topic please. It is vaguely understood, Human Factors/Aeromedical Psychological issues. I would like you hear your explanation as a DPE

      Hi Toni! When you say "issues", are you asking about issues with students that would prevent them from being a pilot, or something else? Let me know and I will get right on it.

  • @alexanderpeters9444

    A person must; ..... hold either a commercial pilot or ATP certificate WITH: the appropriate aircraft category and class rating sought AND and instrument rating if applying for.... (i) a flight instructor certificate with an airplane category and single engine class.
    So to be a CFI, you must hold an instrument rating?

    • @ToddShellnuttCPC
      @ToddShellnuttCPC  4 роки тому +1

      You are correct. You CAN NOT be a CFI without an instrument rating on your commercial pilot certificate.

    Thank you for your great efforts for making these videos. Do you mind if you can help me understand where exactly should the ground training be logged or signed by the instructor? does the knowledge test report/graduation certificate due?
    I mean should it be in the flight logbook, syllabus, or separate record?

    • @ToddShellnuttCPC
      @ToddShellnuttCPC  3 роки тому +1

      Hello Yasir, the FAA dictates that a record shall be kept. They do not go into detail about how the records shall be kept. This means that the student or the CFI may choose anyway they see fit of how the records may be kept. With modern technology today you can even keep those records electronically. Keeping a copy of knowledge test reports and graduation certificates are not a bad idea as well and serve as a back up should other records become lost. Hope this helps.

I wanted to tell you that I have learned a lot from you, I have learned things that non of my instructors nor the ground schools have taught me. It’s a pleasure to be one of your patrons sir. 🙏🏼

    Your example of getting an added CFI class is not the way I thought it was from my research. I think that you can log PIC while training for your multi Class add on because you are sole manipulator of the controls, thus, logging PIC. Therefore, you could use your training time and checkride for a CFI add on to accumulate the 15 hours, correct? Do I have this information confused?
