Matt doing what Matt does best, explaining the details of features and mods necessary to accommodate the hybrid. Very interesting and easy to understand. All Jessica's hard work and detail are really coming together and look great.
The line that you are needing to sand and get a little bit smoother, have you tried to put a piece of sand paper over a dowel rod. Find a dowel rod that is close to the grove shape, longer is better, put a piece of sandpaper over it and sand. It acts like a straight edge sanding block. Food for thought 😊😊
Also since you are going hybrid does the props you have do regen? Sailing can charge up your battery banks fast if you can regen 6-10kw while sailing. Sure you will loose a knot of speed while doing regen but way worth it.
Love the work so far's nice to see it coming together, my only gripe is the beginning when he was explaining what he was doing I noticed he was not clean shaven. That might not seem like a big thing anywhere else, but anytime you are working anywhere that could affect your lungs, a proper seal on your respirator is a must, and as a welder for many years, safety is something I strictly follow. In order to keep yourselves safe, I implore you to always do negative pressure test on your respirator every time, change filters regularly. And one last thing, the same can be said for your eyes, always wear proper eye protection. Again, I love all the work both of you have done, commitment is inspiring. Be safe 🙏
Hello Great to see final primer coats starting to go on. Those Deck fittings look super cool seeing them shows the progress you’re making, might be a while before we see them again but it’s fantastic progress all the same. Matt cutting bulkheads out replacing them then cutting those out doesn’t matter it’s your time not those of boat builders charging a ton of cash. Great job you two all the best from us
I needed a mood booster too. I don't know how you do it Jess! Thank God for the tent set up you were able to secure and the living arrangement. I don't know how you would have been able to do this.
Awesome you are going hybrid. Doing what the Wynn's are doing on their new boat. Batteries I would look around, you can save thousands easy by finding them on sale. Have you figured out what inverters you going with? I would get 48V inverters and have DC to DC converters in each cabin so you run 1 set of AC and 1 set of DC to each cabin then have a sub panel. Saves on wire and time. Then each room can be shut off from main breaker panel. I would order the oil change kit for the engine so you can change it easy. you can also get the oil filter kit to move it to the firewall (sidewall) which makes it so much easier with no spilling when changing the oil and it gives you 1/2 quart more oil for better protection.
It's a real testament to the reach your channel has into the sailing community when you are able to get all these great sponsors to offset some of the big ticket items on your build. You've done such a fantastic job building your brand. Hurray!!
It's really looking good with that finish primer on Jess what a fantastic job you guys are doing. Gotta love redoing and carving up and redoing the redone redo's lol but like you said better now than later.
A suggestion when spray painting at the end of a stroke kinda flick or twist ur hand at the wrist in the direction u were traveling the reason for this is to not leave a relatively thick end point of paint which can show up when completed it essentially fogs the end of the stroke also have the gun moving before u squeeze the trigger for the same reason hope this helps enjoy watching
@Matt - Look at hole centering drillbits for drilling those hinge holes. They will help you get them perfectly centered so screws go in perfectly straight.
Seeing the reflection of the work lights in the finish primer as it went on wet showed what a fantastic job you did fairing it Jess!!!! Super exciting stage to reach!
How long In you opinion to launch? Love all your combine work efforts on his challenge of taking a kit boat and adjusting it to the vest you want. 🐻💨🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
It's a pretty heavy system and we'd prefer to save the weight of the second hybrid system. Keep in mind that the HH has much wider hulls, so can take the extra weight of the system.
You two took on a HUGE project, making great progress, but I bet it's been a long hard road with lots more to go. My question, seeing Billy & Sierra who purchased along a similar time line out sailing in their new boat, do you have any regrets doing a self build? Would you make the same decision again?
I don't love the idea of a series hybrid for a cruising boat. With a parallel system we can run off the diesel alone if the entire electrical system goes down, or under electric if we have a diesel issue. Best of both worlds.
@@MJSailing 316 is also known as A4. This is the more normal designation for screws, nuts and bolts. A2 is a cheaper alternative and equates to 304 stainless. This is not really suitable for a marine environment as it will rust. 316 has molybdenum added to help resist corrosion to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts).
It might have been the camera angle, but the yellow anti-drip pour plate goes on the inside ring of the paint can. That way any excess goes directly back into the can, not on the rings of the can. Don’t ask me how I know this! Ha
Colour - buttercup yellow? Looking at the colours around 12.20 minute mark the off white reminds me of the yellowed look from years of smoking you see in old pubs. Just my thought.
We enjoy the process of the build - if we didn't, we would have just bought a boat already completed. Just like sailing, it's about the journey and not necessarily the destination.
The reason why the quality of stainless has gone down is because the USA has allowed the companies who used to make products in America and there was integrity in producing a great product have allowed these greedy business persons to close the plants in America and out source the making of products to countries like China that don't care about quality and only care about making products as cheap as they can for bigger profits. Some how either by the government passing laws that stop this mass exodus of companies leaving America or by customers refusing to buy inferior products until China start producing quality products. The companies being forced to come back to America or they can't sell products here is a win for the country, the workers and the consumers.
To much video of recreation, not enough video of progress. If I wanted to know about a boat show. If I wanted to know how you were spending your recreation time. I would look for your videos on your Is recreation time. I know you need to fill ten minutes worth a content minimum They come on their seven days between videos We all know that you're further along than what you're showing And some areas i'm sure your further behind. That's what we want to see not the boat manufacturer Not all the sponsored parts.
Everyone wants something different. Just look at the comments when it's nothing but boat work and you'll see complaints that the video is only boat work and nothing else. The videos are also real time from last week.
@@MJSailing It's physics so anyone with an post education in said physics knows just as much as the next guy. No, the design is ISO CE - the specifications and engineering - as the boats being produced in Vietnam are CE. And CE doesn't require a certified "work space" for boat builds. We could be to CE if we had the boat inspected a few times during construction. Not hard to do, but not something important to us. And mechanical versus a chemical bond is about the first thing you learn when working with fiberglass. Pretty easy to design around and we'll understood by anyone working with fiberglass.
Looking really good lovely people. All of that fairing is finally paying off!.
To be honest, I am pretty impressed with us right now for how it's turning out. 🤣
I'm glad ye are taking time off. Too much work makes Jack a dull boy. Never a truer word was spoken!!!! Stay Safe & Fair Winds!!
Great job you two! Owners Hall is looking Great!!! Enjoy family!
It's looking so good.. I bet you guys are getting more & more excited ❤
I like watching the boat change colors
From green to white(ish) to pink to yellow, haha.

i love wood boats but fibre glass for the win when it comes to major changes like you engine beds looking good great progress.

I would have preferred to do the bulkheads once and not for the fourth time, but that's what we get when we change things midway through :)
I needed a mood booster too. I don't know how you do it Jess! Thank God for the tent set up you were able to secure and the living arrangement. I don't know how you would have been able to do this.
What an awesome stage to see everything in off-white! Looks great!
Thank you so much!! We can't wait to get other areas of the boat to this stage.
Bit by bit it's coming together. Exciting times for you guys.
Hopefully there will be a lot more noticeable changes coming soon!

We're sponsored by Xantrex for batteries, solar and inverter/charger luckily..... As you said, the stuff is pricey otherwise.

Tempting...so tempting to stay an extra week, lol.
The primer went on great-a testament to your hard work fairing and sanding…great progress guys!
We can finally see the light at the end for this part of the project
Put the yellow pour spout on the INNER lip of the paint can. It keeps the paint out of the groove where the lid goes.
Crazy that we didn't think of that simple thing..... I guess they should have had instructions for us on the package :)
more big fans to stay cool

That's a tough question, our launch date keeps getting pushed back. We're going to try really hard for October/ November of 2024 though.
You just put the shaft tubes into place. Is this modification going to change the centerline alignment for the prop tubes?
I also much prefer shaft over saildrive 😊 Why not have both sides with the same engine/electric configuratio?? The HH-44 is doing a matching set.

For us the build is as much a part of the fun as finally sailing the boat to exotic locations. We love projects like this.

Matt you mentioned at the end about 3/16th stainless steel.......may I ask what the size pertains to on the latch products please? again thanks folks
Sorry. Not 3/16 of an inch as a measurement of its size, but of the metallurgy of this type of stainless. 316 is a grade of stainless steel.
@@MJSailing 316 is also known as A4. This is the more normal designation for screws, nuts and bolts. A2 is a cheaper alternative and equates to 304 stainless. Give this guy an off holiday.
2:50 that’s what she said
what about 310SS. That should be just as common as 304SS
Shortage of trace minerals used in 316 stainless is making hard to find and expensive.
Perfection will never get splashed. Move on and get this finished and go sailing

wow...just a primer makes it look so much less like a work in progress
It really helps when it covers up the epoxy fairing compound that splotches the wall, lol.
How much longer until you splash the boat and see if all your hard work is good and solid and she doesnt sink to the bottom of where you are at.
Hahaha, we're hoping for a launch of Fall 2024.
304 Stainless is cheaper than 316 maybe another covid supply shortage attack
We enjoy the build but I worry that your channel is not really growing like many others?? Oh, I have been watching for years.......
