As much truth as he was allowed. He was forced to censor this song heavily pretty much because of one word "kike" it's rubbed 3 or 4 times in this song. The execs wouldn't allow it which I'm assuming is because they were Jews.

He is still one of the most creative people to ever walk amongst us.
the story behind this song is that the government wouldn't grant him the safety as they didn't want him to expose the favelas, so MJ went directly to the people that ran the favelas (most of them drug dealers) and asked them for permission, they accepted and he recorded the video there, Brazilian government was forced to sent police personnel, there is also another version of this video recorded in united states.

A curious fact about this video: The military police could not guarantee the security of the MJ in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and so the security was done by the criminal faction.

FYI there is a version of this video that Mike did in a real jail with real prisoners and none of the networks would play it... it was essentially banned, and he made this one in Brazil to replace the original version.. i tried to link it but just search on youtube jail version and youll see it...it has a very different meaning when you see the original version...
Their is a jail version of this song. But this would always be the best version. But I wish you seen the extended version with nothing but drums at the end.

@gigga143 - More is the version of the prison video that is present on the CD "HIStory: Past, Present & Future - Book I" this version recorded in Brazil with Banda Olodum is so far non-existent on CD, no Michael Jackson collection came out with this version Brazilian version of "They Don't Care About Us", it only exists even on the DVD "HIStory on Film, Volume II".
