  • Often health care professionals conduct a variety of blood tests to determine if someone has leukemia. Leukemia patients often have decreased levels of platelets, white blood cells (WBCs), red blood cells (RBCs), hematocrit, and hemoglobin. Other tests such as bone marrow aspirations can reveal an increase in immature blast cells. Learn how health professionals classify leukemia by staining sample tissue with a dye and by looking for chromosome translocation. Created by Nauroz Syed.

    I've been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, thankfully, after a long road of treatment, now in remission. My initial symptoms were acute hip pain, on one side, then the other (I thought it was something to do with the bed just not giving me enough support) and the biggest symptom was being completely exhausted just going from one room to another, the effort was like climbing Everest, I was exhausted easily and not able to recover quickly by breathing - I wasn't out of breath as such, but breathing didn't help me recover, it took about half an hour of rest. In the end I collapsed after shaving one morning, just from the exhaustion. If you have any of these symptoms, please get a blood test, that's how they found out what it was, then they did a bone marrow biopsy to confirm. Hopefully, nobody ever has to read this.

    Good one. Just to make one clarification- at the centre of long bone there’s yellow marrow which consists of primarily fat with few cells, but the ends contain red marrow. Usually bone marrow aspiration done from manubrium sterni or iliac crest (red marrow) for easy access. Thanks for the content.

    Hi doesnt Acute lyphoblastic leukemia produce a positive result for both tdt and common ALL antigen (CALLA)? so does the tdt hold true for all lymphoblast? like CLL would prove positive for a tdt as well?..Great comprehensive videos otherwise!

    My dr thinks I have a form of Leukemia. 0.07 immature granulacytes which is 70% if I understand that correctly.. Elevated neutrophils, elevated monocytes, low lymphocytes, elevated mch, low platelet count and a lot of symptoms. I had rapid weight loss 2 years ago that has stopped. I get night sweats every once in a while. Vision issues, bone pains, kidney issues, tinnitus, dry mouth, dry eyes, vertigo. I also have hypothyroidism.

    So all it takes is a single bone biopsy? Where does it need to be taken from? Spine? Developed a few broken bones in spine and ribs for no reason. Is it paInful? For how long? What is the size if the biopsy sample? Do patients develop multiple cysts with leukemia?

    • @angelsbutterflies6293
      @angelsbutterflies6293 4 роки тому +2

      If I'm not mistaken they do what they call a bone marrow biopsy and sometimes they do a bone marrow transplant and i heard that it's extremely painful and it's taken out of the hip bone. You can look it up to make sure. Because my cousin and my grandmother had 2 different types of leukemia.

    • @venomx4093
      @venomx4093 4 місяці тому

      Cysts are common. A bone marrow biopsy is performed on your hip bone. As far as pain goes, It depends on your pain tolerance. It hurts, but how much depends on you.
