Absolutely. That was a very big in the failure. Because Indians however frugal they are, don't want to buy anything that's termed CHEAP. Must say what Engineering achieved Marketing lost out on the same. But overall a very good car. Happy user since 10 years.
@@samkool3008 That is the problem with people's mentality. Cheapest car in the world is rather an achievement of indian engineering. No other Country could build a car like that without it falling apart on Day-1. Nano was a well built car for its price. Far better than the Scootys or motorbikes of the time. I too am fortunate enough to have driven the Nano on various highways and have found the drive absolutely remarkable, sure there were quite a few amenities missing in the cx model but I never quite missed them tbh. There are things that I wished were different in the Tata Nano like the placement of the battery and a better glove compartment but nevertheless the Nano remains to be one of my dad's favourite cars that he has owned and mine as well. Beautiful video! You made me smile.. I am proud owner of Tata Nano 2012 LX for 10 years now. I own other car and driven multiple cars - small and big both types. I can clearly say the it is the best to drive.. especially in city. Technically, it was a marvel and had lot of research and innovation in it but politics was main reason of failure. Maruti would have been wiped out if Nano had came to market in 2007. Another reason was the marketing. In those times, being a car owner was a prestigious thing. But the word 'cheapest' in marketing took its reputation down a lot. I agree it was not safest car but not even a Maruti 800 was and still is not! But it was much safer than bikes and scooters and a boon in rainy season.. Anyways, great video and allnthe best! Thanks for the video :)
We had the Gen 2 LX version with body coloured bumpers, front power windows, and fitted a glove box as well. Manual Steering, 4-speed Manual, RWD, and rear mounted engine. It was just a matter of time before I fell in love with this car. Driving around the narrow streets of Bangalore and nostalgic school runs with my friends are some memories I'll never ever forget. I still wish I had it even today. We eventually sold it for a Baleno due to a minor accident that messed up the car's steering. Later on, I realised that we moved from one tin can to another 🥲.
My mama had a first gen nano and he never gave up on it with his friends and family .. his wife had to go to extreme lengths to make him sell it .. it’s really a lovely car

Seems like such a fun car. It's a shame that it was stopped. I think if they targetted the right customers, branding it's actual strengths, it could be brought back.
A great piece of automotive journalism, really glad I came across this series! & I'm just as sad to relive the fate of one of my favourite cars to date.
Great yaa guys, you’re doing a wonderful job bringing smiles on our faces. Shiris’s style pf presenting is so much nice and fun to see. I humbly request you to show TAta Safari and Sumo on one of your episodes.
This was my 1st car. It was super reliable. Many people used to make fun of the car. I think Tata should have fixed some problems like windshield heaters. The AC was super awesome even in Delhi heat. Awesome leg room. I am 6.3. People felt insulted when I overtook them.
Waiting for Nano EV! I too own a Twist XT from 2015 and love it! Apart from all those positive things you mentioned, I love the placement of power window switches. If they do launch a Nano EV, I would like it to have the Nano Europa body. The body and doors of our Nano are too flimsy and lightweight.
Wonderful video Sirish. I have a 2013 CX done 1.1 lakh kms (90K was crossed within 5th year). I waited for the Diesel Nano back then, settled for petrol later. Except for choppy ride quality in bad roads when you drive alone. No issues. Personally for me the breaks are way better than my Alto at city speeds. Its a sure shot future classic car.
@@evoIndia True. There was no official news about Diesel launch from Tata. But i waited as there were some online unconfirmed news about nano diesel test mules.
Still own the twist from 2014. It easily does 110 on the expressway. And i still can't come to terms on selling it. It's definitely faster than all other cars in city traffic. Thanks evo india for this segment just makes my will stronger to never sell it ever. Everyone who gets in the Nano for the first time is always surprised and eventually falls in love it. I would definitely love to own an electric Nano and definitely wished that it is remembered for generations. ❤️
Thinking of Owning a tata nano now (in 2022) is much more because of their current lineup....... Back then it would've been a nightmare...... Even now their service isn't great
I have a first gen Nano Cx 2010 in the exact same off-white colour, my Nano was the first in the entire district and costed 1.65 lac rupee in U.P Done over 90k km and everyone in my family still loves it.
We still have a white nano as a secondary car... It works great for small trips to the market and nearby areas.. Easy to park and just go about in the town... Its a gem of a secondary vehicle
@26:15 Small mistake. The Nano AMT had a 5 speed gearbox unlike the manual which was a 4 speed unit. The AMT does have a learning curve to ensure shifts are say smooth (rolling off throttle to trigger upshift etc), but if you are keen to use good performance l, switch to manual and S mode in, it is quite fun n smooth.
i made by frnd buy one good condition nano and i had used it for few days..ac was chilling...good for 4 people only! amazing milega and cheap spares....miss that nano :(
The birth of the Nano was with the idea of providing affordable transport for the masses but when that segment did not respond to the product, Tata should have immediately changed gears and they should have marketed this as a city car for those who already had a car (read financially well off who had available parking space and had the financial ability to maintain a car) Nano also made it clear, that those who own two wheelers don't always upgrade to a 4 wheeler. But those who already own a 4 wheeler, would more likely buy a 2nd or 3rd affordable car. Tata should definitely consider the Nano again but in the electric avatar something like the Mahindra e2o.
@@abhinavsingh.92 Reva became the e20 when Mahindra acquired the Maini Motors. I don't know if e20 is still in production but it was a huge step up from the humble Reva.
Even today I say kids pointing out at the NANO running on the roads which rarely happens for any car. TATA should be proud that kids are their brand ambassadors. Really excited to get an EV Version of NANO. Also I appreciate Ratan Tata's approach. He hasn't forgotten the NANO and infact trying to rejuvenate the product. Shows how close to his heart is NANO.
I think buying a maruti 800 makes more sense than a nano as the 800 was solid in refinement, bodyshell, looks. Also nano used to give us heart attacks at corners for it rolling nature
There is a difference in between thinking of a philanthropist and a business man, even though car could not make enough market space his thinking was really great
I used to drive my friend's nano while in college. According to me it was the most practical car ever. An absolute wonder to drive, literally zero blind spots, could be parked anywhere , adequate space for 4 heavy adults [ we used to cram 5 guys 😂] , boot big enough to fit my cricket kit and fuel economy comparable to that of a bullet. A full tank just costed 1000 rs, 200 per person for at least 300km😂 And it was so fun to drive, with its 4 speed gearbox. It saved us from rain & cold for 4 yrs . It was so loved by us that we rarely touched our motorbikes. A great car that never got the respect it deserved.
Own a 2015 GenX Nano MT for 8.5 years. Clocked roughly 25k kms so far. Amazing city car with adequate peppiness. Low on maintenance and high on fuel efficiency. If you understand the car and its limitations, it will give you much more value than the price it commands.
Its a cute little car ideal for city commute, I have been using one for the past 10 years, in fact I bought it cause it is so spacious, I am a heavy set person so has issues sitting in the Alto or Eon or any other small car of that time. The design is also very unique in a positive way.
Despite being marketed as the Worlds Cheapest Car, People who were on Motobikes and Scooters never bought one (a very small %), but Middle Class People who already owned a Car bought this like hot cakes. Which defeated the purpose. You see People who bought this car were well educated, well off people who understood the meaning of Nano. Whilst rest of the people thought of it as a disgraceful Cheap Car. I hope those people who rejected this marvel back then, have changed their mindset, and think more deeply now. TATA Put a lot of R&D on this thing. This was Ratan Tata's Vision .
I own the 2014 twist and the only major parts I have replaced just last year are the battery, brake pads and tyres. plus a 1000 rupee service every year. This is the RX100 of cars. CNG kits are now available, so planning to sell my bike, install the kit and enjoy my daily commutes to office.
Awesome car I own tata nano since 2010 wonderful car I love tata brand I also have tata sumo 1998 still running perfectly, that how valuable and reliable tata brand, recently bought tata altroz in jun2022 all wonderful cars
Tata's singur plant is pretty near from my place and Hindustan motor's plant is also pretty near from my place too but as HM's plant was used from production cars , it still has some old ambassadors and contessa's in it but the Tatas singur plant is nothing but some kind of shaded open meadow and has no sort of stuffs in it
Enjoyed every bit of the series Gone but not Forgotten. Would love to have a video for the Renault Duster. Its truly a car that's gone but not forgotten.
I bought a Nano Genx before 4 months... 2017 model... Ist owner, 8500 kms run...was in excellent condition... for 1.9 lakhs.... And then spent around 1.3 lakhs for upgrading and for deco aspects... Changed it to 13 inches alloys and 13 inches tyres..... New genuine leather seats with hand rest, complete floor matt and noodle mat on top of it... New music system with woofer, central lock system, special LED head lamps and relays, DRL lights, new battery and top sheen double glazing coats.... I live in the hill station of Coonoor and I own a scorpio too... Believe it or not, this is a little rocket when you climb uphills... I do all kind of dare devil driving in Nano as I do in scorpio... It has got more stability on hill roads because of the upgradation of 13 inch alloys... And once in a week I often travel to coimbatore to chennai, Bangalore and other distant towns for my business purpose... This little beauty travels at a stretch of 400 to 500 kilometres without any strain and gives me around 28 kms of mileage.... Now my king Scorpio is taking little rest and this prince is taking care of all my travel needs... Happy driving with the Genx Nano....unbelievable micro car... Thank you.... Ratan Tata sir.... 😀
Nano sales failed becoz of people`s perception else its a fantastic city commuter on four wheels and I enjoy it in my city almost everyday...and thanks Sirish for this fantastic video. It was like a documentary.

It’s brilliant in narrow city streets
My mama had a first gen nano and he never gave up on it with his friends and family .. his wife had to go to extreme lengths to make him sell it .. it’s really a lovely car
My tata nano....driven 1 lakh 40 thousand kilometres on cng
2015 E max cng( Twin cylinder technology
😉)
Not a single issue in engine.....only some rusting issues which is due to no shed for car
Mileage-35 city and 40 on highway on cng
It's CNG+ petrol or just CNG
@@nikhilPUD01 petrol+cng
Damn you indian consumers. Nano jab thi tab koi izzat nahi thi. Ab pyaar a raha hai sabko uspe.
😂😂😂
Seeing you guys in action while shooting this was so much fun! Thanks for taking up an episode on this legend and making me a part of this!
Your car?
@@aneeshkanil9283 Yes, the white one.
Thank you for coming. It’s enthusiasts such as yourself that enable the GBNF series
Thanks Sirish for bringing back the NANO with this video. I have a NANO CX for the past 10 years and enjoying using it in the city and sometimes in the outskirts. I was reliving my experience as you were reviewing the CX.
It was fun driving it after so many years
I bought a Nano car in 2013 and a top model too n it's still the top model touching the 90,000 KMS and still running fine I love the car.
The one we tested here has done 98,000km and running fine
Tested in the plainbelt states is different but tested in the Hillstate here in Shillong is different altogether.
Will u replace your nano with a nano after it gives up @@hamarbamutphanbuh2810
Knock knock, SURPRISE ❗❗ Through Tata Nano is discontinued, it's heart 625 cc Engine is still in production in BS6 avatar and used in Tata Ace Gold Petrol version. ❤️ Yeh Zinda he 😍
Ace learnings helped the Nano team build it at the cost target
I am driving my genx since 2015 it has done me great service and continues to do so its very popular in Sri Lanka but sadly tata has stopped producing it if it can be produced in Sri Lanka would be great
m
Nano and 911 ... seriously cracked me up 😂😂😂😂😂
Hahaha! But the layout is the same no? :P
Thank you for the kind words. And yes, the others are on the list
This was my 1st car. It was super reliable. Many people used to make fun of the car. I think Tata should have fixed some problems like windshield heaters. The AC was super awesome even in Delhi heat. Awesome leg room. I am 6.3. People felt insulted when I overtook them.
The only RWD hatchback.....truly King🙏
Nano has got several variants of which i bought AMT variants which cost me Rs 3.5 L.
Nano getting labelled as 1L car is very infortunate
Best video on Tata Nano
Diesel we don’t think was ever planned
@@evoIndia True. There was no official news about Diesel launch from Tata. But i waited as there were some online unconfirmed news about nano diesel test mules.
Note to editor - why is Sirish repeating some things. Not edited or proofed properly.
Gadbad ho gaya 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for bringing this out! I love this series!
well tata nano is emotion ....epitome of what indian engineering is capable of
Its a marvel of Indian engineering.
True
Great episode🔥.Its true that we can't forget this car bcoz it's always in our heart. Wish they could bring back the Nano as EV.
Love at first sight!
Thinking of Owning a tata nano now (in 2022) is much more because of their current lineup....... Back then it would've been a nightmare...... Even now their service isn't great
I have a first gen Nano Cx 2010 in the exact same off-white colour, my Nano was the first in the entire district and costed 1.65 lac rupee in U.P
Done over 90k km and everyone in my family still loves it.
1:45 that exhaust note of desi 911! 😘
💨💨💨💨
I just love Tata Nano. This is the car you can take anywhere. Smallest car yet the best marvel of engineering
We still have a white nano as a secondary car... It works great for small trips to the market and nearby areas.. Easy to park and just go about in the town... Its a gem of a secondary vehicle
Yeah great second car
"Gone but not FORGOTTEN", This is used dor LEGENDS. NANO is a real LEGEND. Simply loved it. Proud to own a NANO. Yes its my LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.😊
That’s true, AMT was a 5-speed. Apologies on that
i made by frnd buy one good condition nano and i had used it for few days..ac was chilling...good for 4 people only! amazing milega and cheap spares....miss that nano :(
The birth of the Nano was with the idea of providing affordable transport for the masses but when that segment did not respond to the product, Tata should have immediately changed gears and they should have marketed this as a city car for those who already had a car (read financially well off who had available parking space and had the financial ability to maintain a car)
Nano also made it clear, that those who own two wheelers don't always upgrade to a 4 wheeler.
But those who already own a 4 wheeler, would more likely buy a 2nd or 3rd affordable car.
Tata should definitely consider the Nano again but in the electric avatar something like the Mahindra e2o.
Are the Revas still in production?
With 100km real world range
@@abhinavsingh.92 Reva became the e20 when Mahindra acquired the Maini Motors.
I don't know if e20 is still in production but it was a huge step up from the humble Reva.
@@aneeshkanil9283 That should be enough range for daily commute in most Indian cities.
People in Delhi NCR might want a bit more range.
@@finderskeepers7293 it stopped production some years back
Tata Nano "the super car". Value for money.
Rear engined, RWD! Haha!
Very nostalgic and eye watering video 🥲🥲
Even today I say kids pointing out at the NANO running on the roads which rarely happens for any car. TATA should be proud that kids are their brand ambassadors.
Really excited to get an EV Version of NANO. Also I appreciate Ratan Tata's approach. He hasn't forgotten the NANO and infact trying to rejuvenate the product. Shows how close to his heart is NANO.
Wrong Marketing Made Nano a faliure ! A Car with such a pure intention ! Sir Ratan TATA is a GEM ❤
I think buying a maruti 800 makes more sense than a nano as the 800 was solid in refinement, bodyshell, looks. Also nano used to give us heart attacks at corners for it rolling nature
@ANINDYA MAHANTA my family has 2 nano's sir. Every owner has different aspects about cars.
Not the most planted around corners TBH
Great job
There is a difference in between thinking of a philanthropist and a business man, even though car could not make enough market space his thinking was really great
Had bought a second hand first gen Nano, terrible experience, full of rust and malfunctioning steering. Finally had to get it scrapped.
Same here. Bought first Gen which was full of rust, eventually had to get it scrapped. Bad memories and experience for sure with Nano.
Simply Wow ❤
I too had all three Std, Twist, XTA 🌃
A Nano fan 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It was in my college days that one of my seniors family bought the first generation Yellow Nano in 2010. It was great feeling riding that cat.
ratan sir should start manufacturing this car for nepali in nepal :)
Im using a nano amt for my regular commute...the best regular drive car ever
I still have a NANO at home. Its really fun to drive around crowded places and in the city where parking space is luxury.
The best auto channel in India. This episode is a masterpiece
I own the 2014 twist and the only major parts I have replaced just last year are the battery, brake pads and tyres. plus a 1000 rupee service every year. This is the RX100 of cars. CNG kits are now available, so planning to sell my bike, install the kit and enjoy my daily commutes to office.
Give it TLC and it’ll take care of you
What a wonderful decision...bikes are not the safest...sell it
Beautiful..it was .....thnx to Ratan sir ...
Nano will not be forgotten for sure… Please make a gone but not forgotten video on the Polo too :)

Great for the city!
Awesome car I own tata nano since 2010 wonderful car I love tata brand I also have tata sumo 1998 still running perfectly, that how valuable and reliable tata brand, recently bought tata altroz in jun2022 all wonderful cars
2 nanos caught fire and everyone protested on roads. Today EV scooters catching fire is just a common scene.
The EV fire is going to have repercussions

Tata's singur plant is pretty near from my place and Hindustan motor's plant is also pretty near from my place too but as HM's plant was used from production cars , it still has some old ambassadors and contessa's in it but the Tatas singur plant is nothing but some kind of shaded open meadow and has no sort of stuffs in it
Proud nano owner from Kerala.. my CX gives 28kmpl on hiways and around 24 in city daily use.. always on AC

SUPER CAR
NICE VIDEO 👍👍☺️
🙏🙏🙏
Great initiatives.. in luv with this concept of gone but not forgotten..
4 cars shown till date which we use to own .. including my first car as a college student .. tata nano 😜.. 2010 model ..

Am sure TATA wil bring a “nano-E” soon for Indian families… am sure this time will go into hearts if Indians…😍
Doubt it
I want this car again in the market, I love tata nano car.
Thank You EVO India , Thank You Sirish
Welcome 🙏🙏🙏
You got to give it up for the Tata Motors, they started the sub 4 meter sedan a segment new and also could build the Nano from scratch. Which was a very fine car btw.
And when Indica V1 failed, they went to Ford, it show that perseverance does pay!
Lovely series, Lovely idea. All nostalgic cars of 90s and 00s. You should also do Esteem, Tata Safari, Honda City, Contessa
Owning this car, done 70k kms still runs like a charm
Love to see it ❤️🥰 i have a nano twist with 90k in odometer 😎
