I just came across this channel, and I am just now getting into ballet (I'm entering my 4th year of tap classes). Pretty much anything I can do to help the process along, I'm game. I've heard conflicting things about this, and I wanted to get your opinion on the matter: is walking in heels beneficial for helping get up to pointe? Or does it do more harm than good?

Tapper Dan hi there! Welcome to ballet! I’m not familiar with the benefits (if any) of walking in heels while working towards pointework. Additionally, heels can put a lot of pressure on the tendons in your feet, and when you get onto pointe, you want to be sure to have healthy tendons.
You can get strong enough for pointe without wearing them. Lots of releves to start!
      Good luck on your journey!

@@BrocheBallet Thanks for all the info! I started tap at age 38 (I'm 41 now), and I want to really branch out into ballet (I'm still going to continue in tap), and I just want to get the very most out of it that I can. I know it's not typical for guys to go up on pointe, but it's definitely a goal.

Where do you purchase the super balls? The tennis ball was an easy find but I would love to be able to increase the intensity. Also for a Theraband, do you have any websites/links that you recommend? Thank you so much!!

One question, can the arch of your foot get you on pointe faster?

Hi Sophia! Thanks for reaching out! It's so tricky to predict the amount of time it'll take to get onto pointe because so much of it is dependent on how your body reacts and adapts to building strength or flexibility. But, having said that, I can share some broad generalizations about the length of time it can take to be ready for pointe.
If you already have a shape to your arch more naturally, it can sometimes take less time to get en pointe than someone who would need to do a lot of mobilization of the ankle, as massage and opening the ankle joint can be a slow process. But, on the other hand, sometimes flexible ankles (like mine) need significantly more strengthening and are at a greater risk of injury due, so it can also take a little while to build up the necessary strength to stay safe en pointe and isn't guaranteed to be a "fast" process to be ready for pointe.
You might enjoy this video where I break down the different aspects of pointe readiness: ua-cam.com/video/skrw41u2JS0/v-deo.html
Note that this advice is for dancers ages 18+ and younger dancers also have additional considerations about bone growth and development.
