I'll tell you what you can do to make it easier to pull that thing through the log that's all milk, what you do is you find your piece of cable long enough to go from one end up the bottom and up to the top, get your pulley at the bottom that you can put. The bullion of the mill part of the sawmill and then put you a boat crank up on the side of the sawmill and then as you crank it, it will pull the sawmill to the other end. And cut the Log.

All that sawdust can be used to enrich & stabilize the soil around your property, if you didn't already know, and the cutoff bark will burn quite nicely in the fireplace this coming winter. And Natalie? Chainsaws are powerful, dangerous tools, so you are absolutely correct to be afraid of them.

Get a hold of Woodland mills and ask for the track extension , You can always add on for longer log for your mill .. save the center pit of your logs cut into a 6”x 6“ post to build a shelter over your mill ..

Cut a groove in the bottom of the flashing so the water doesn't run back. I was told you are supposed to cut the top off one of your metal stays the first time (Red Tool House) but you got away with it. Save the bark for mud holes on the track.

I like the idea of making your drip edge from 4x4s, but I am pretty sure there should be a PVC drip edge available. Another option could be to cut open some cheap PVC pipe and with a torch or heat gun heat it until it becomes malleable. That way you could custom form it around the rock. A little spray paint and you even have your desired color..
However you are going to do it, I look forward to seeing you solve and improvise a solution that is right for you.

The camp video was awesome and so was this one. if you need an idea for rest of that wood, how about extend the shed roof over the tank or cut some slat to wrap around the tank to make it look like a barrel. your idea on the siding sounds great and I can't wait to see it, the 4x4 for trim on the top of the rocks is brilliant, can't wait to see that too.

The 4X4 that sits on the stone, are you going to cut a lip the thickness of the siding, then cut a slop from the lip so water will run off. Much like a drip cap over windows and doors just larger. Also a groove under the 4X4 so water can't run back under the 4X4 still like a large drip cap.
The ramp stone is beautiful, you couldn't have done a better job, the live edge siding is going to look awesome also

  • @danbentsen

You need a Bark spud for removing bark from your logs. They are made out of 1"x2" steel tubing 3.5 - 4 ft long. To get an idea of what to look for you can go to a tire shop that sells semi Freight truck tires. They call them a tire mounting Bar. They have a curved 7" x 2" x3/8" thick metal welded to one end , this is the part that shaves the bark off your logs. you have to put an edge on it w/your metal grinder. You can save a nickle if you purchase one of these tools at a second hand store. I really like my bark spud. You make a good video, best wishes on your Homestead.

Thank you very much for sharing your life experience.... my favorite channel... sweet family.... as a suggestions.... better than using the 4x4 for the stone wall cap ( Wich I think will be wasting the wood ) , you can use the the first 1x? cuts With natural sides as a cap, I think it will match the natural siding stone .... Also I think the front of the shop need a canopy so you can do your projects when it rain and you can use the 4x 4s as a canopy posts .... wishing you a wonderful day .

Also I’d router a 10mm deep groove in the underside to act as a drip. I’d set this drip about 10mm back from the front edge too.
