Sweet Corsa! You couldn't get air conditioning as a factory option on the Turbocharged cars, but was available on the 140HP cars. My 1965 500 sedan is a factory 2E car, and was upgraded to the 66-67 style like yours. These are awesome cars! Whether I'm cruising my sedans(2 earlies and a late), my 65 Corsa convertible or my Rampsides, they are so much fun! Awesome car!
a 2500 pound car with 140Hp, is like a 57 Chevy two door, with the 180 hp 283, ( 3300, pounds, as far as quarter mile time goes Low 17 sec, or boring..
Happy that you took the cat in, sounds like one of mine, a real talker. Car looks good man ! Missed out on an early model 150 turbo about five years ago, good running shape, fairly original condition. I didn't have the $2,500. The guy was asking ! Would love to have a late 2 door.
you could get the 65 corsa with A/C and they use that condenser. 1965 for 110 and 95 hp the used the big unit on top of the fan. gm stop using that unit in 66. turbo was a non a/c cars. gm sold a/c installed from the factory, however, gm offered a dealer-installed like the factory. it came in 3 big boxes. everything was there. it took about 6 hours of labor to have it installed. it was very popular in the southwest, especially texas. the only difference was that the a/c from the factory came with tinted glass all around. the compressor works only for Corvair because it rotated differently from other gm's. in addition there is only 5 piston inside. if the dealer needs a compressor, sometime they used the small chevy like the nova compressor but the oil pump gears were rotated. a/c from the factory dtc was 20 if I recall correctly, for the dealer-installed were about 12. and the oil cooler was also replaced to the big one.
Growing up, our family had a 64 Monza convertible, later on I had a 66 convertible. My Mom worked at a tire store and was given a free set of Michelin radials, it was funny seeing mechanics shake their heads when my five foot and a bit mom tried to tell them the tires weren't flat. ;-D
The rust on the passenger side drip rails is common because it is parked on the street the crown in the road makes the water drain to the passenger side ! On my project I bought a remote battery kit and moved the Battery to the front (drill some drain holes in the trunk) and you can use any damn battery size you want ! You can run the cables inside the heater boxes if you want . A big problem I had doing this was poor grounds so I added an extra ground in front trunk next to the battery (Chasis ground) and another chasis ground in the engine compartment And finally with a beefy ring lug right to the starter bolt that attaches it to the transmission (you can’t make too many grounds) I have subed so I will be watching your progress !!
Corsa Spyder, nice. If you do want to turbo it go to J.C. Whitney and get the tunnel ram for the 4 brl carb, up to 750cfm with the right jets. No room for tire in back with turbo and the plumbing. Very Nice find.
A very well optioned Corsa, indeed! Sweet ride, once its sorted out. I'm working on a much rougher '65 Monza 140 convertible that I'm in the (very slow) process of converting to an automatic from 4-speed, as I'm a paraplegic and can't use a stick shift. I look forward to the day mine is that close to being road-worthy. Did I mention mine was in rough condition? lol Enjoy!
FYI, I had a 63 and 64 Spyder, 150 bhp turbos, and a 65 Corsa 140 bhp 4 carb with over 100,000 miles and no problems. A typical rear gear for the 4 speed is the 3.55. all spear tires were engine comp. storage, most of use moved the spear to the front to get away from all the heat.
One cool option my 65 Corsa Convertible had was the fact that it comes with no windshield squirter system. Who in the world would want a car without a window squirter system.
The Frunk is in the front of a Corvair, a trunk is in the rear of a 'plain' car. The tire mount in the frunk could have been added when the A/C modification was done, there was a kit to do so, or one would 'cut out' one from a donor car. If one bought an A/C unit new at dealer, it would have been part of the package. I have a 63 Monza Sedan the transaxle roared like a lion, changed to Amsoil, now it purs like a kitten... Just bought a 2010 5th gen Camaro LT1 six speed manual that slid like a snake around corners, changed differential fluid to Amsoil and Amsoil Slip Lock Additive , now it bites like tiger!
Should be wonderful when finished! Would love a 66 Corsa Convertible w/ n-a 140hp 4-carb, 4-sp manual, air cond, and Special Purpose Chassis Equip. (Z17) handling package.
The spare in the trunk is only from the air conditioner models. I have seen other 65s with air conditioners that were stock so I think that you are wrong on the aftermarket air.
Yes - it was added using GM parts after it was sold. Turbo cars never had AC. Those AC parts were plentiful in the late 60's. Dealers did this often setting the car up as it should. There was a guide for this as well.
10W-30 or 10W-40.. I use the lowest unless oil consumption is an issue. Will be testing and reporting - mostly in my 66 Corvair 500 sedan. That engine is set up for my driving.
There was no A/C on any Turbo cars from the factory. And no A/C on '65 140 cars! Look at the body tag to see what was optioned on this car! That is an odd place for rust! Wonder what this car has been through? Like replaced body sections, etc! The great [or not so great] thing with Late Corvairs, is that 99% of the options are bolt on or easy to add. The few things that are difficult is that front spare tire mount. That tells me this IS a factory 1965 A/C car with the 95 or 110 engine though. The Corsa dash and emblems are an easy add! And that turbo exhaust cutout ... anything is possible in 50 years of use!
I did say several time in comments below and the video the a/c was added in 66 or later and I since learned of the NTCA club member who did it. Owned the car till his son restored it before his death. But as the tag says it was a 180 Corsa just as the cut-out in the rear panel. I can send you a photo if you want. It was not a 140 car. Send me your email if you like and I can send a photo of the body tag. That's was the first thing I researched when I bought it as I've been an avid Corvair owner for 25 years and Corsa member. this is my 26th Corvair.
@@Syntheticwarehouse - I was heavily involved in the Corvair hobby for years, including attending many of the CORSA conventions in the '70s. I probably met the NTCA member who owned this car at one of those events, as we'd all gather round and swap Corvair "war stories." Definitely an unusual Corsa, that's for sure. My mom had a rare Corvair, too - a '67 Monza 110/PG with factory A/C, something that wasn't available in CA - car came from Tuscon. Bought it from my insurance agent for $200 after his daughter put regular fuel in it and didn't hear it pinging while barrelling down the highway at 70 mph in 100º weather and the radio cranked up. Punched a nice hole in #5 piston. . . I rebuilt the engine, detuned it back to 95 hp so it would burn regular, and Mom drove it for the next 25 years with just routine maintenance - turned out to be the most reliable Corvair my family owned! Those were the days. . .
Nice car! In 78' I had a Corsa with telescoping wheel and AC.
Awesome find! I just started working on my '67 140 Monza, my first car I bought in 1980. Stored for 20 years, much to do!
I had one!!!! That's a cool find Bro....
All the "Corsas" had a Turbo. If it didn't have one it wouldn't have been a Corsa...

It's a great car, the AC is a big plus, when you sort it out it will be fantastic.
Happy that you took the cat in, sounds like one of mine, a real talker.

Oops, I didn't mean to have the second part shown.
Congratulations Ches! Many good options on the 1965 Corvair Corsa...wish you the best

Also bought a 65 Corsa Turbo last year. First Corvair. Really enjoy it. Pretty much the same options minus the A/C.
Mega upvotes !!
Im hoping to pick up a 65 monza, its optioned out to be as close to a corsa as possible.

Screw the spare ! I got AAA !

I used to have a 69 monza. Loved it.
Very nice! I've got a concours condition 65 Corsa. Now I'm looking for a '66 Corsa so I have a set! You'll love this car :-)
I am looking 4 anything pERRYSWEENEY444@MAIL.COM

Actually this combination really needed a five speed. At highway speeds that 6 cyl. is humming.
They had the spare back there with the turbo. First thing i did on any Corvair acquisition was move the spare to the front.
One cool option my 65 Corsa Convertible had was the fact that it comes with no windshield squirter system. Who in the world would want a car without a window squirter system.
Are used to see those are on my town all the time when I was a kid
1.7 million were built!
With turbo and or A/C the spare went in the front

Cat is huge because it looks to be a maine coon. The largest domesticated cat breed.
Cool car!
Perhaps the tires in 65 were different but the high heat in the engine room was causing tires to rot Michelinc plus raises havoc on the handling !
Needs secondary filters. Has the "wood" steering wheel.
You absolute could get factory a/c in 1965. I own one!
Yes you could. But in 65 you couldn't get the 66 style.. I've had 30 corvairs one of every model and equipment too..
Very nice find!
Hopefully you named the cat, "Corsa".
The cat unfortunately vanished after this video but I have a strong notion someone made him a home.
The spare in the trunk is only from the air conditioner models. I have seen other 65s with air conditioners that were stock so I think that you are wrong on the aftermarket air.
What's there to be wrong about? It was dealer installed - stock equipment. That's how they did it with GM parts.

Where do you find the weather stripping
Clark's Corvair in Mass. They have everything!!
That car must have come from East Texas near the ocean.
thats not a bad start.. wish people would keep rubber gas hose out out the eng bay,,,big way to burn them down
Yes, I tell people that all the time - that was already there and the car is being corrected in so many ways now.
A Corvair with air conditioning is a bitch to work on.
What grade of motor oil would you use in that air cooled engine ?
10W-30 or 10W-40.. I use the lowest unless oil consumption is an issue. Will be testing and reporting - mostly in my 66 Corvair 500 sedan. That engine is set up for my driving.
Diesel 10 - 40
looks like mine...
I’ve got a 65 monza! Bought it from California and had it in Texas for a year, now it’s up in oregon with me. Check it out on my channel!
