I have the Chauchat squad since when it was originally removed, and to be honest it's better now after the merge because of its low tier. I can't really use it as a machine gun because of its recoil (not that it's high, but the fire rate makes it feel like it jumps around a lot), so I treat it more as a semi automatic rifle, but nevertheless I like that squad.
ya, it used to be kind of rough, when they added the heavy mg's they added engineers to the old mg squads, and then the community told darkflow we needed them on the assaulters so a few months later we got them on the assault squads. honestly a huge boost in value to the old squads.

Got polish BAR and it's pretty good, Germany definitely is lacking of some offensive and mobile lmgs. Also picked up FN Model 1930 and going to get a next one soon, so i will have two BAR squads that can play just fine at any BR. Disagree about MG42 Early not being as good, in reality it's the most accurate Axis lmg out there you can play it like a sniper and counter snipe snipers with zero issues (as long as your eyesight is fine).
Yeah, I got the wz. 28 LMG back when they removed it and I remember that squad was so useful in the Normandy campaign. The MG 30 squad is also pretty good if you're looking for those "lighter" LMGs. The gun is useful in CQC and actually stable enough to shoot at medium ranges.
Be me wanting to get the Chau-chat squad but didn't like the ~3k gold price tag last year. Got about 5k gold from having Stalingrad access pack, got both the Chauchat and MG30 squad for 5k gold, for roughly $15, as that is what I paid for the Stalingrad access pack. That access pack was such a win to get and grind.
yes, Stalingrad access turned out to be a fantastic investment, between the soldiers, the higher leveled guns, the unobtainable gear, and the gold refund.

you can also change they secondary equpment to weapon and they become best squad

Had no idea you could put your own engineers in these squads. I thought all the old squads were dumb without this info and may buy one now.

Playing with them in high tiers with research weapons.
It's main reason why you need to buy them.
