HI Josh - have you thought about working with the various pizza chains to have them print the interior of their boxes with lines that define the shape, cut lines, crease lines, etc? Also printed inside would be the URL to the FT Tech Channel video covering the build. Thanks.
Kevin Hoskins Ironically that is what delayed the release of this episode almost a month. We were working with some large chains to get the inside of pizza boxes printed so that families could build after they eat. We are still working on it but felt that the time was taking too long and we wanted to get the episode out so people could be inspired to build their own. If anyone has connections to any pizza chains, we would love to work with them to make this a reality. We would use our stem program to create more designs and have them put inside pizza boxes. Just need to find the right Company to embrace the Vision.
Now you should try to make a whole pizza box fly in a way that you can deliver pizza in it. You can use that idea for the release of the video when you announce that you have plane lines printed out inside the box. You will probably want to glue some of those mini tables onto the top of the box to hold the pizza in place while you fly it around. It can be like the chair plane... except you have to be able to eat it after it flies.
Alternatively you could set it up so that the design is printed on a thin piece of paper that can be handed out to turn the pizza box into a plane, that would work with multiple different pizza companies and they wouldn't have to change their boxes. Another thing you could do is you could use the designs on the boxes to line the points up but the planes would have to be individually designed for the boxes? I just want to see an actual pizza box fly, even if you do just stick it onto a big quad...
That is actually a million dollars free ad campaign for the pizza companies they would be out of there brains not to work on it even with alignment to the pizza brand logo to just fit tilting the wing so it will be a free flying advertising
Gosh this is actually sky is the limit for them with special slogans such as eat build and fly or even a custom printed boxes with a special promotion for hobby fans and builders , wow my brain is actually working over time now thinking on all what can offerd over the table in such a corporation deal god its a 100 win win deal
I think it will happen. Best thing is to show proof of the concept through our awesome community and FT Stem. Can’t express how bad I want to see families and friends sitting down and building a memory together.
Flies great.....OUT OF THE BOX!
🙄
I am not sure what has changed at Flitetest, but lately the videos have been amazing. Whoever has been doing the creative directing lately needs a raise. I cannot wait to see whats next.
Ian Thomas I agree, these recent episodes are great
Guys, this was ingenious and outstanding! I truly appropriate the way you involve the younger generation in this hobby, it's truly inspirational and helpful in their upbringing and development into adulthood; Thank You!
Puts a new meaning in pizza delivery
The grease really helps you slice through the air!
French Brown smoooooth
Now I kind of want to see a plane that carries a box of pizza lol.
Nice work!
EpicSpaceTroll 139 I have made a plane that carries pizza for a science project
I'd love to see it flying!
sjeses yes it is on my channel
Build Fly Crash Repeat I don't see any videos, just three channels you're subscribed to. Maybe you have them set as unlisted
like the ol' spear burrito delivery system
5 dollar hot and RTF🍕
Drive On lol good one👌🏻
Now I'm hungry...
Haha that was all you wasn't it?!
RTF = Ready to Food ;)
Back in the day... circa 2004, we used to build Pizza Box planes. It was just a flat box with elevons, nothing fancy. We didn't even have brushless motors or lipo's, but it was a lot of fun!
The extra grease in the cardboard creates a slipstream effect
figure this too.... a pizza place could also profit from selling a clean empty pizza box(es) for a buck extra when you buy a pizza. I'd sure go for that in a second!
aw hey, finally a plane I can afford! :D
+FliteTest this one is really AWESOME. that 1/2 thickness 1/2 weight corrugated stuff is really good material. in your Porco Rosso video I dropped a kinda long comment about incorporating common household items into designs+plans, likely worth your time to find it.
it's not an "ego thing", it could just help to make lots of nicer looking new designs!
Man, somebody must have flipped a switch, because the last couple of weeks' worth of videos have been especially awesome. I keep sending them to my daughters. "Look at this! He put wings on a chair!" "Pizza box wing? We could make a pizza box wing!"
Oh please continue making more designs with pizza boxes, or everyday objects in general! Have an electronic kit incoming and have trouble finding foam. Looking forward to build and fly wierd stuff :)
And this is why I love Flite Test...
Now if you guys can get at least some of the pizza companies to have their pizza boxes made with the drawings already stenciled on the box.
Something else to think about. I flew the mini guinea yesterday. I forgot how much fun that thing is! How about a re-visit? Maybe make it fly off the water?
i love this episode, i love small plans with reused material would love to see more pizza box planes.
Hey FliteTest!
you should do a challenge about having to eat the food and build and see how can do it the best!
Nice build as always, guys!
Awesome build will try it
Good job guys!
This is beautiful. Foam board may be $1 per sheet in the USA, but in Australia you can't get it for less than $10 per sheet unless you order online in bulk. It's almost cheaper to order injection moulded EPP wings from Banggood than to build FT planes from scratch.
I love you guys so much! You've created STEM accepted learning, and while this is something kids (like algebra) can learn, and will never need again, can turn into a career designing aircraft when they're older. This is like the new shop class!
Who ordered the Pizza and Wings?!
Hehe couldn’t resist!
Fergy
I did it, im building it right now :)
I love these challenges
These videos are great and it's nice to see you guys having fun too!
Second favorite video ever, nothing beats the chair but this was close. Great job Josh!!!
another great material is Lego boxes. Ive got tons of them lying around, and the cardboard is thin and light enough for an air frame.
Good idea guys! I made a FT Versa wing from a TV box :)
The best leftover ever...👍🤣
It's these types of videos that got flitetest as popular as it is. Great job!You guys rock!
Now I will have to try building this one. Excellent video guys!!
This is great! you need a quad flying pizza box next!
"Welcome to Little Caesars, would you like to try a Hot and Ready Pizza?"
Me: "Are they any good?"
"I said they're HOT and they're READY"
Try a snack plane next. A Pringles container would be a great fuselage 👍. Haha, awesome pizza plane video guys.
Looks like a Power Pack H kit would come in handy here. Is that also what powered Josh's chuck glider conversion a few weeks ago?
In case anybody here is from a place where foamboard is expensive and tricky to get, just thought to mention that corrugated cardboard works quite well as a substitute. You can still do ABC folds and everything, it's just a bit heavier. It might sound like I'm redefining cheap, but maybe somebody finds this useful. It has gotten me personally into flying!
*gets a new battery and flies away*
Also here's a few tips for working with cardboard:
- align hinges, folds and cavities perpendicular to the 'spars', it's cleaner, easier and stronger
- brown paper tape blends in great and is your friend
- electrical tape around the edges is a quick and easy way to improve looks and actually looks quite nice without the need for additional decor, also extremely easy to repair
Good luck!
Dude I dumpster dive for materials all the time, you can find just about everything you need for planes.
Nice! Two questions...1. Where’s Stefan’s pizza box build??? 2 have you guys EVER built anything that DIDNT fly?
This probably won't get much notice but I do this all the time. The pizzas I get come with a polestyrene base so I've designed and built over 40 different Chuck gliders but I don't have the money for all the power. That will come hopefully soon. Most of these are modeled off real planes from avro Lancasters to f35 jet fighters. I've been doing this since December last year. Nice to see the same concept taken into practice on my favorite channel. Only this time with power. You guys have really inspired me into this hobby.
Are they profile gliders?
I'm not sure what you mean by that
Thanks brother. You guys inspire us everyday. :)
Why don't you try make a plane with a wingspan of under 60cm (my largest planes wingspan) and put micro motors from things like the tiny woop
Profile planes are basically made from flat pieces of cardboard, foamboard, etc. They don't get "volume" by folding it to create a fuselage or whatever. Just search for "profile rc" to find some examples.
This is beyond amazing. Your fun projects are so simple...yet mind-blowing. Your team reminds me of the 'Flight of The Phoenix' crew.
Great job !
The old cereal packs often had card cut out airplanes on them so why not Pizza boxes ? I would suggest a whole range of subjects from a simple chuck glider to a twin engined jobbie that you buy additional parts to complete.
This is another wonderful way of involving children with our wonderful hobby, keep up the good work.
These last two videos have been great! Reminds me of flite test of old.
Wow this is awesome
They don't sell foamboard in India, so this was an igneous solution. Great job guys!
Great video FT. but can the battery be taken out for it to charge?
I did this last year with an Arrow, but I used a few Doterra essential oil boxes I had laying around. I absolutely love the plane and I think it might be a tad stronger than regular foam board too.
Flight test is awesome!
This is perfect! I've been waiting for Flight Test to start experimenting with cardboard. I always like using it (those thin Red Baron pizza boxes made great skins on some planes), and its great because its recycling trash into something awesome. I'm so glad FT has started using it, creating less waste and more fun, I approve!
The traditional Pizza Box Flyer retains the square shape of the pizza box, and frankly flies pretty bad. Good idea to just use the box material to fashion a Bonsai/Popwing - type flying wing, to improve the flight properties (albeit at the expense of the "wow" factor of an RC flyer that actually looks like a pizza box). Maybe for another episode you can do the traditional one and compare.
Nice job Josh !!!, hopefully your working on trying to get that RC car to fly right ????
I had terrible trouble trying to drill out a bottle cap for the motor..after a couple of failed attempts, I gave up and used a 3D-Printed-Motor-Cover-Protection-for-1103-1104-1105-1106-Motor from banggood... 4 for £1.80 .. .. a perfect fit ... job done...
My tiny 24" V wing is made from depron not cardboard...
my 2 favorite things! RC and Pizza
now could you actually make a pizza box fly? like not cutting parts out of it, but attaching wings to the box for potential delivery.
This would be such an awesome way to deliver pizza. I mean, it would be kinda terrible, but still awesome
Mr Bixler you never cease to amaze me! Well done!
Bow down to flitetest, king of 21st century rc
that looked like a lot of fun. I'm going to try to build one.
Finally something I can make in my country because it's hard to find thin foam here
Ok I have to do this, local Pizza Hut does awesome pizza. Plus foam board here in Australia isnt cheap. Freaking awesome, another brilliant episode!
Guys please make more quad vids
This is such an awesome idea!!!
For some reason this video has caused some who make their own copy to call theirs a PBF, but that tends to confuse what a PBF design is and it isn't a delta wing. They don't seem to know there are cardboard flyers and there are foam flyers that are basically squares.
I would love to see you guys race different pizza places! Little Ceaser's vs. Pizza hut vs. Dominos!
Now you need to upsize it. GO LARGE !!!
I need to make this one. My brother eats pizza like an addict there is tons of this boxes laying around. Can you make more recycled RC aircraft please :) I would love to see more pizza box aircraft models plans too
a variation on the mini scout might be a very good candidate for a pizza box
Awesome!
Great job! I understand that you made the body out of a pizza box but wouldn't the RC tech make it cost like 80 dollars more?
What HD camera was Alex flying on the chase quad? Looked different to usual, super crisp?
Brilliant!!!
Nice plane josh
Nice video idea😂
Just when I thought you couldn’t do any better and then 💥 Bam. Pizza Box Plane!!!!
you guys are the reason to get me started into rc. ı havent bult or flown anything yet(except some drones) but now ı am thinking of bulding the FT Explorer. Keep it up. :)
The fun dial is cranked up to eleven. Nice goin.
I absolutely love you guys a 100 times more. This is so educational. My son will go mad for it! How do I do it?
This is awesome. Please cover more models made out of pizza box. ,🤞🤞🤞
Hi Josh, I'm from Aussie. So what size Pizza Box is it? We have small, medium, large and Family sized here. Even a measurement would help! Love the idea and Pizza's!
LOL love all the puns that was great!!!
Cool!
Would this be good for a beginner?
Flight Test - Im desperate. I need a slice of pizza delivered across the field from you guys. I think you might get hungry and eat 7 of the 8 slices but the advantages of this is you can then build the delivery plan using the box. Can you do this challenge - deliver a slice to someone across the field on a pizza box plane?
You guys are the best!
pizza box races at Flite Fests Texas and Ohio
Amazing! but were any pizzas harmed in the making of this video? ;)
I made this today but a little different. I made it out of foam board and flies amazing!
Great job guys! I worked for little sneezer's for about a year, the station I spent the most time at was the one called "landing". Remove pizza from pan, put on box, slice, fold box around pizza. I could do three pizzas in under 20 seconds. Always wanted to see those boxes fly, but never figured on this! Great idea, lets see a few more designs!
This is sick. I want to make this greaser
love it. Cheap enough to not care if it crashes as compared to some of the other 100$ stuff you can buy
That's awesome guys !!!
Y don't u come with a ( Airfish-8 ) model
I'm looking forward for it
the new pizza delivery system
This is awesome, I really want some pizza now too
What's up flite test crew, another great video.i want to build my own drone to do fpv and aerophotogranometry, but I'm having difficulty with it, could you guys help me or give some direction?
I'm want to use the rv jet frame.
Please help.
My wife over heard me watching the video. Told me "don't even think about ordering a pizza ". Awesome! Now, how to hide from wife.
Flying Beer Cooler! (put soft drinks in it if beer is a problem).
This is amazing you guys rock
the next step is to make a wing that can hold a pizza slice in there, so you can send a friend a slice of pizza
OMG you guys can make anything fly! I love your videos please keep doing what you do!!
Now make a plane that can bring you pizza right from the restaurant using the pizza box.
