Note: I have been doing an example based on building Lego items for the past couple years to introduce linear programs in this OR course. I think it is a great example for students to gain intuition about linear programs and, therefore, I know I am not the first person to use such a problem in an OR course. For example, this post (meetings2.infor...) discusses the use of Lego examples to help introduce OR to high school students.
