Brilliant opening. I remember the Radio 4 shipping forecasts from when I was a child. Very important when we went fishing. I'm surprised so much of Porth Wen still stands. Time and tide each claim their prize.
Wonderful location. Absolutely a cinematic experience. The drone shots and peeking in the crannies :) Always with the fantastic historic documentation! Top of the line Martin, and glad to see James doing well. I did miss the tea :) Thanks for getting us out there!
I will have to say that's one of the best positioned old factories from back in the day could you imagine working hard as hell inside that building and just looking out the window at that beautiful view of the ocean or just getting off from work after a hard day and just staring at that ocean it is a must have been a very amazing Place back when it was all up and going
What a gorgeous place and a fabulous old ruin. Fascinating that nature will reclaim everything in the end it’s like it’s saying it’s not yours I only loaned it to you and now il have it back Thankyou very much.
I used to live about five miles away , incredible place, thanks for reminding me of it again and highlighting it's history, perhaps you could have a look at nearby Amlych and the copper mountain, there's also the Angelsey railway too which is being restored by enthusiasts, again much thanks Martin
Great video Martin, nice to see the remains of the steam engine specially made for brickworks by Thomas C Fawcett at their former Whitehouse engineering works which was in Hunslet, Leeds .they say tbe large flywheel still moves too .
@@MartinZero I haven't visited Hunset Martin for some time I will find out for you, in 1972 they merged with the Bradley Craven company to become Craven Fawcett.
Hi Martin and James, What a hidden gem indeed, I really loved seeing this you guys, thank you so much. Everything the surroundings, the buildings the clear water, everything was really picture beautiful. My compliments on the image quality, well done. Loved it all. Love Roos 🙋🏻♀️🌹😊🤗
You picked a belter of a day to visit. When I passed here a few years ago whilst walking the Anglesey coastal path, it was blowing 90mph winds and was absolutely pissing down with rain. Still had a strange beauty however.
Spent last week on Anglesey and was going here Thursday but the weather turned and it’d have been rubbish for photos. So this was a treat thanks. Fab video. Love a bit of flue inspection.
So good. What a beautiful place. You certainly had a lovely day. Thank you for sharing. There is so much places to discover. Thank you for finding them for us.
What a beautiful quiet place must of been noisy in it's day, I just love the kilns the shape of them is wonderful looks like one will fall soon that would be a shame. Thanks Martin and Donkey James looks like you had fun exploring this one.
Thanks for the video lads such a fantastic place to visit so much history and beautiful clear sea. As you said nature is taking it over needs to be respected!!😎🐓🐓🐓🇬🇧💯
Such beautiful views! Thanks for taking us along on another tour of a beautiful hidden gem! And please give James a lump or two of sugar for his excellent packing services! 😉
a great informative video as usual. we wild camped here the other week but after watching this , i want to go back and see it again now that i know more about it, cheers.
i would love a paddle in that beautiful clean ocean , stunning area , it got to be one of your best videos but i really enjoyed your manchester videos ,
Wow thank you Martin and James that was a stunningly beautiful place to go round , but can you imagine The noise and the pollution that place must’ve created in it’s Hey day
💜🏆💜 chicken soup to my soul! What is that German word that means sorrowful longing for someplace you've never been? Thank you for taking me to these abandoned monuments of human effort. Places such as these have been my lifelong passion!:-) 🖖💜
Hi Martin & James, what a fantastic place to visit, and as you say there is still a lot left to see and investigate. You did it proud, a wonderful showcase of this once very industrious location and right on the beautiful Welsh coastline. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖
Great video! I love this place. I used to live a 15 minute walk away and I'd come for a walk here with my cat almost everyday after school. That's about 18 years ago now. I'm surprised to see the chimney hasn't completely fallen. The building with the eroded floor has got worse but it was always quite bad and there was a small marsh on the left of it with stepping stones which is how I got to the beach. The walk down to it can be very treacherous from the cliff top. When we get the weather here on Anglesey, with beaches like aberffraw, it's way better than being abroad. Thank you for this
@@MartinZero you really should! You probably know this but further along the coast is the old porcelain works. I used to go there a lot too but I always got an eerie feeling there. I read up that there used to be a ‘nuns home’ right next to the beach. Not a convent but a ‘nuns home’. Unless it was some kind of slang for a ‘lady of the evening’s home. The previous owner of the house I lived in was a ship captain so I just assume he was associated with the porcelain works. My house used to be a morgue and the house next to us was a leper colony. Make of that what you will!!!
What a beautiful place. I think that building with the broken pillars in the middle could be been a drying room. When bricks are made they are wet and need to be dried else they explode in the kiln.
That was fantastic. What a wonderful place to look around would just love to do it. Love learning these things so thank you so much. Please stay safe and take care
Nice video and drone shots of a favourite place of ours - a friend used to live nearby (I live in Manchester near Cornbrook, which is how I found this video). If you take care you can climb up to the cast iron 'thing' at the top (which I think you thought was a winch) which is a stone crusher, and which I think started the processing of the rock at the bottom of the quarry incline, from where the crushed stone travelled down through those gravity chutes. It has a poem (!) cast into the side of it, reminding workers how to keep it working properly. The coastal path from Llanbadrig church (also worth a look when it is open) is a really nice way to arrive here, and you can make a circular walk out of it and go back via the (small) road. A lovely day out, and there are more industrial remains half-way along the coast path and a wartime observation post too.
Awesome vid Martin. Thanks for the time you took to research Porth Wen. Audio intro, and filming were brilliant, as was the rest of your film. I have been there myself, but for many reasons will never return, but I can watch this time and time again .!!
Thanks Martin I'm In Bed At The Moment With Covid But Looking At Your Brilliant Videos Has Helped A Lot You a James Work Well Together Stay Safe A Thanks From Blue
Another little gem left to rot, such a shame, a lot of history going to waste. Thanks Martin for highlighting this lost world of silica bricks, who'd have known?
Martin, you have the best music on UA-cam. I really enjoy your electronic stuff. Some of this video's music sort of reminded me of Tim Blake's New Jerusalem. 👍
Well done, Martin. You travelled over to my part of the world. I live about 10 minutes away. Not far away is the old copper mine at Parys Mountain. There is an underground group there who take adventurous people like you to see the mine workings. The whole site above ground is amazing to see with the great opencast that was used in a very old Doctor Who episode. I have an American friend who tries to come over each year. He is a descendant of the copper mines manager. The mining of copper goes back to Roman times but the more recent work happened in the 1800s. It's quite a story if you fancy following it up.
A surprise, this one - I didn't get notified of it, and you are actually somewhere I've been. It's a great site, and there are many fascinating abandoned sites like it in Wales. Immaculate drone footage at the start, too. Lots of prehistory in Anglesey, too. It's also where the Romans wiped out the Druids. Thank you. It's a beautiful film. Nice one.
The drone footage at the beginning made the whole site look like a model, fab place
Brilliant opening. I remember the Radio 4 shipping forecasts from when I was a child. Very important when we went fishing. I'm surprised so much of Porth Wen still stands. Time and tide each claim their prize.

A wonderful bit of history, glad to hear it's a scheduled monument. What we need is someone with money to take it on board!
Yeah, needs saving really
Your channel is just one of the many gems, here on YT. Cheers!
Great watching, keep it up. So special

Wow, Sunday night on UA-cam. Lost Mines, Ghost town living and Martin Zero to put the icing on the cake. What an amazing location, thanks Martin.
Thanks Neil. Stunning location
Fabulous, the cove alone was picturesque, but the beehive kilns and sea walls really are uniquely attractive. What a hidden gem of a place.
Yeah, as soon as I saw a pic of it many months ago. I knew I had to go
@@MartinZero I don't blame you...

Crazy, this is how the gold & silver mines operated mountainside in Colorado & Nevada. Such a cool place...
Old world, so someone must have taken their knowledge over there.
Really incredible and picturesque place! Love the drone shots too! Surprised no tea and bickys !
Yeah we never took the flask on this one
