We had this model donated to our resale store. With your information I was able to get the table working and can now sell it to raise money for charity. Thanks
A big thanks for your very informative video, my SL23 was dead after 5 years in storage had power but no spinning. After watching your video and following your recommendations and your trade secret, it's now alive. It spins, holds speed steadily and ready for service. Thanks again👍
Wow! Thanks. I have this model. Bought at a swap meet. Had same issue wit the motor not spinning. Cleaned the contacts with deoxit. And now it’s working. Much appreciated.
wow... THANK YOU for this video. I was trying to get my dad's old record player up and running and was about to take it into a technician. All I needed to do was clean the contacts as you suggested and it was an immediate fix.
This video was easy to follow, and best of all it worked. My Technics plays better than ever. Glad I watched this instead of hiring someone. As a thorough cleaning after decades of use was needed. Bought cleaner & lube per your recomendation. Thanks.
Thanks for the great tip! I thought I was going to have to find a new motor as it wasn't spinning. But saw your video and cleaned the contacts....did the trick perfectly!
Thanks for the great video. I have the MCS 6502 which is essentially the same turntable. Mine needed all the fixes you did before it would lock on speed. Getting the two speeds balanced was a bit twitchy, but now they are right on with no pitch adjustments between the two speeds. Mine had some thick black grease in the spindle well, so cleaned it all out and put two drops of light synthetic gun oil in the well and some on the shaft too. I have a new $7.00 belt ordered, but I got it working with the old one. I knew about the talc trick, and I will do that to the new belt. My pulley on the motor was covered with hardened belt residue that had to be cleaned off. Keep up the good work. With vinyl making a comeback, there will be more interest in videos like this one.
Hey blueglow, I gotta break your balls for a sec so I apologize in advance... I got an sl-23 and watched his right after to school myself. I’m a newbie but your videos have taught me a ton already. Anyhow the belt is brand new and I decided to talc it as per your recommendation despite having read on the AK forums that this would mess with the speed consistency. I figured your word was better. So after dusting it I started up the tt and immediately couldn’t get the speed dead on. I washed the belt and then everything went back to normal. I can’t help but point out that you might not have had to go back and recalibrate the speed after you had it right if you hadn’t powdered the belt. Sorry again. I’m not trying to be an internet know it all smack talker, I just felt compelled to share
Outstanding! Thanks! Answered ALOT of my questions!. Can go into rebuilding my 6502 [no typo] w/confidence! Gonna hit up Parts Express tomorrow for the Deoxit.
Good afternoon i guess people havent commented on this in a while. I really want to try and fix my turntable myself. When you sprayed the 45/33 switch did you remove it or left it connected? Where you spray it? Ill probally have more questions. Thanks
I just picked up an SL-23 at a flea market and was able to get it all adjusted and running smooth using this video. For that, I thank you! I was however only getting sound out of one side. Through trial and error and a borrowed cartridge, I discovered the problem is there, do you think it is the stylus or the entire cartridge? Is there a way to test/repair those items? Thanks and subbed!
johnnypsr I was in a similar situation when I got my SL-23 from a yard sale and fixed it up. At first sound only came from one side but I touched the wires that connected the Cartridge to the tonearm and somehow both sides started working.
Thanks for your helpful video. I just got a used SL-23 with a Shure N91ED cartridge. Is that cartridge decent? should I just automatically replace it? With what? Or should I just replace the stylus? With what stylus - what should I look for in a replacement stylus on EBay? Thanks again!!
I pulled the spindle and while cleaning it up I almost lost the ball bearing. Mine looked like it was lubed with grease, can you put grease back or do you want the thin oil like you put in?
Hey there! I just got a 6502 (I imagine it's similar to the 6503). Here and there the audio is a little warbly (wobbles in and out of tune). Is this a belt issue? If so, what is the correct replacement belt? Thanks so much!
I have the SL-23 and was wondering if this technique of cleaning the pots would help with my problem of occasional fluctuation of speed or if that is a motor problem?
And, it's important to point out that not all MCS Series components will be made by Panasonic/Technics. For instance, the MCS 685-6500 belt drive turntable is made by Hitachi.
Got this exact same record player from my mom. I ordered a new belt to realize the blue ground wire on the back of the cartridge is broke and too short to re-solder to the connector pin 😠
How about you show how to actually how to install the belt and little things that you bring up and not just assume everyone has the same knowledge as you?

Excellent guide - thanks very much for sharing this! Recently picked up an MCS 6502, and I'd wager adjusting it is very similar.

Mario Yrun Hi Mario, could you tell how did you get it up running? Did you clean all contacts or you manage to find some in particular? Thank you!!!!!

Where did you order your belt from?
Amazon or ebay will have them.

I just bought a Technics SL-23 for $10. I'm anxious to see if I can get it running again. This should help. Thanks.
What lube do you recommend? Thanks!
This solved my pitch tracking issues on my MCS 6502! Thank you! What do you recommend for setting the bias and counterweight to?

If the headshell wires weren't the problem...It's in need of a new cartridge.

Is it all possible to change the strobe light colour to say to blue if you wanted to
Is sewing machine oil good to use for the bearing oil ?

+ironmijowe Thin oil, no grease.

Thanks for showing the belt install ( I just got a sl23) and it wasn't turning, its the belt! any suggestions of where to get one?
Amazon or ebay...in case someone needs the answer.
I have the SL-23 and was wondering if this technique of cleaning the pots would help with my problem of occasional fluctuation of speed or if that is a motor problem?
+Matthew Roach Exact same issue, I've fixed no less than 20 SL-23's with that issue, pots get oxidized over time and cause this.
Does anyone know how to switch the needle on this one? My grandpa's needs a new one and I have no idea how to work it
Very useful thanks
How much can a turntable like this go for in good condition?
Are the tonearms on the MCS tables exactly like the Technics, or are they cheaper look-a-likes with more inexpensive (plastic) parts?
Cheaper

exact problem with my sl-23, thanks

They sell replacement wires...Amazon or ebay
I got one of these that doesnt spin at all, and I cant figure it out
Thanks!
i like your video

There are tons of videos on here for that...Just in case someone has the same question.
Thank u so much,
Sl -23 speed so fast teach me what can I do,thanks
Its a TECH-NICS not a TEK-NEEKS.
I cant hear a dam thing you're saying. Sorry
