  • Srimpi is a classic, 18th century dance from the royal court of Central Java. It's usually performed by 4 female dancers who must go through intense physical and mental preparations beforehand. They represent the 4 elements, "grama"(fire) , "angin"(air) , "toya"(water) , and "bumi"(earth), uniting in a hypnotic dance of slow and graceful movements to reveal to the audience the meaning of self-control and inner struggle. This sacred dance is one of the allowed to be performed outside the royal palace.
