They're all so differently styled. I love John Skeehan (Railroad) and Paul Hoffman (green sky). Jacob Joliff is all jazz on the inside. Sam Bush is the dad of bluegrass and Ronnie McCurry has been absorbing his dad's licks his whole life. I bet I've watched this video 500 actual times. I love everything about this crew.
Well, I humbly disagree. Sam Bush is very fresh grass, Hoffman is new grass, Jacob is jazz grass, Skehan plays classical, and Mr McCurry plays trad grass. They represent a ton of different takes on the mandolin. I love all of them!
This video has really kept me going over the years. Such a great display of different expressions. Jacob Joliff absolutely melted my face on his second run. Jeez Louise!
This is fantastic! I find it very cool that they all can play back up with a lot of drive, but still at a volume that lets the lead player cut through. True masters!
That's Sam Bush at the right. Great bluegrass musician. Has a very unique style that has me baffled. And Ronnie Mccoury on left too. Gonna have to get me a mandolin one of these days.
Kudos to Sam Bush, Ronnie McCoury, and the guy in the middle for actually including the melody! For me, you at least ought to give a nod to the melody before going off into improv land.
Ornamentation is one thing-completely avoiding the melody is another. How can 2 working mandolin players not know the melody to Bill Cheatham? Come on. This hippie grass bs is for the birds
can't stands the YMSB or "Yonder!" crunchy grass, but Jolliff is good. Should be, went to Berklee and I think was raised in a gospel bluegrass band. Did Thile go to Berklee?
These are all just the same guy at different stages of his life.
brilliant
Except the guy in the striped hat he's in there for scale
Ronnie was a hippie too

This is my favorite video on UA-cam, it makes me smile the whole time.
Nearly a year later, I still would proclaim this as my favorite video on UA-cam. Just fantastic!
You would not be alone !
Could you imagine getting to see this much talent on one step in person?
Huge Thank you to the person or persons who captured this incredible moment and for sharing it
This video just never gets old!
More I want more!Ronnie and Sam juuuust lounging this is why bluegrass is great!!!

I love how you can watch the communication between each player.

Great Jam! I also love how all their heads just follow the players around, esp. when swinging around to the beginning again. It just makes me smile. 😁
That is some seeeerrrrious playing! What a neat scene! Thanks for the video Matthew Bobeck!
AHHHH THEY ARE ALL GOOD AND HAVE DIFFERENT STYLES WTF
This is why I love the mandolin.
Way great!!
I can’t believe I’ve been here before. ! Well. It’s still that good.!
Looks like a commercial for sandles. :-) Would have loved to have been there...
Wish there was a vid of the whole session!
Seeing this makes me so happy!
I've been playing for 2 weeks and I have no idea how you can get this good :)
Practice
Buy a pair of Jesus creepers
Play 2 more weeks
After about 20tsd hours of practice you might get close…
weekly lessons
and 1-3 weekly jams
and in time this is doable
All are best of best, Great Mandolinist. Bill would be proud.
This is ridiculous. I love it. ❤️
One of the best festivals going. Simply awesome!
This is so happy! Amazing!
I just got my first mandolin and it's wonderful
Wow... so beautiful to watch. Liked

Look how happy are they!😊
Ronnie for the win with Jacob right on his heels! That was awesome across the board!
Ronnie's hat for the win! and the pickin' . . .
Amazing! Jacob!
Wow, fabulous musicianship

Damn this good....real good. Nice work!
Wow! I would love to make it down there!

Cory Baumer youre a poet and you don't even know it
Wow - the Man Bun rules. I never thought I would say that but he takes all of us to school - and then some. Great share, thanks
yeah he is pretty incredible / at times a bit Gymnastic but he can blend the vibe/feel with the acrobatics well
Thank you. Awesome.

Nobody is using a pick, is there a record playing?
I see it now, I only started playing this week sorry.
And beards haha
That was pretty cool.
Good music and positive guys
This is just the best ever!!!! :D :D
Kudos to Sam Bush, Ronnie McCoury, and the guy in the middle for actually including the melody! For me, you at least ought to give a nod to the melody before going off into improv land.
That look on Joliff's face when Ronnie starts playing, complete with a head shake like, "man, dude can play" (at 2:02). Priceless
I've heard Jake say Ronnie's been his hero since he was like 8 years old.
Ornamentation is one thing-completely avoiding the melody is another. How can 2 working mandolin players not know the melody to Bill Cheatham? Come on. This hippie grass bs is for the birds
Adam I agree that knowing the melody is important, but if I hear Bill Monroe shit one more time, Ill burn all of my mandolins.
@@lespaulsoundwave bill Monroe invited this, you can't forget that ol son
Very amazing! Why has guy in the middle (Jacob?) such very heavy boots, but the others not?
so cool!! my feet following to moving up and down haha
Excellent
Holy moly!!! 🙏🎯🔥🔥
That is quite a lineup
Guess which guy went to Berkley?
Just wow...
❤❤❤❤❤👍
Wow! Awesome!!!
de lujo
Bravo, Bravo
I didn't even recognize Ronnie McCoury. Looks like a Cuban cab driver in that chill outfit.
Bill Cheatum will never sound the same again.
I love how they all look down at Ronnie at 4;25.
Do F styles really sound better than A styles or is it aesthetic?
"Thank you, we are beach bun"
That's awsome who's in the middle? He picks a mean mandolin
That's Jacob Jolliff. He plays with Yonder.
+Matthew Bobeck agreed!!!
Bravo!
Four pair of sandals to one pair of shoes, must be down South somewhere.
Plus the visor 😂
SÅ HÄRLIGT
~3:50 the dude dropped some neo-classical shit on us!
I’d like to know what brand/model of mandolin each is playing.
Sam is playing a 1930s Gibson. Jake is playing an early 2000s Bush model Gibson. Ronnie is playing a Gilchrist. I don't know about the other fellows.
lol wow pindrop audience didn’t even know they were there!
What time are they picking?
Joy

They are the Mendolin
That Guy at 1:48 ... C'mon!!!

Rich Schwegler Sure. I'm planning to transcribe some of this today.
Feel free to shoot me an email of that.")
Rich Schwegler Absolutely. What's your email address? So far I've transcribed Sam's opening melody and part of Jacob's solo.
Boys got them doggies BARKIN
can't stands the YMSB or "Yonder!" crunchy grass, but Jolliff is good. Should be, went to Berklee and I think was raised in a gospel bluegrass band. Did Thile go to Berklee?
+BillRandall650 I'm pretty sure Thile went to Murray. (In Kentucky)
duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude.
In the middle...the Frank Zappa of mandolin.
lol... who expected that huge crowd at the end of the video??
I expected the one guy filming and then maybe the dude who got in the way of the camera, if he stuck around.
Are Hoffman's toenails painted? WTF
Too many toes!!
Shadow clone jitsu
In true fashion, the young guys all school the old man.
my brother's in string's
Alex Ross cool story bro
5 guys who dont have money to buy a guitar
Paul's a foot guy now ;)
Ugh, man bun, there outta be a law...
I gave a thumbs down for the ridiculous man bun.
Even worse, in my opinion, is the dude with the painted toe nails....smh...
Jeez, what does it matter what these guys look like? They are all jamming like crazy!
Man bun plays for fucking yonder.
I like the man bun, I think it's cute.
