I've often wondered if the scene where Jack explains to The Doctor and Martha that he was once called "The Face of Boe" might have been a bit unscripted. They way their faces just fall in shock and it almost seems like Tennant forgot his next line just feels really genuine to me. If the reaction was scripted and they knew the information in advance, then bravo to their performances. If not... We all know how they feel.
I once saw a clip of Tennant where he talked about getting the script for that scene and instantly going to Barroman that he needs to read it too. So the reaction you see is acted :)
The one thing that sticks out to me about that reveal is that Martha references the face of boe right in front of jack when they’re working to send the ship to utopia and they show the YANA acronym. Why didn’t he mention anything about that?
Tom Baker isn't the only doctor who is petrified of water. Peter Davison can't swim, and came dangerously close to drowning for real during the filming of A Very Peculiar Practice. This was filmed at the pool at Warwick University, and my friend was working there as a lifeguard and pool caretaker at the time. He recognised that Peter was not acting, and dived in to rescue him. From what I gather, Peter (understandably) refused to reshoot the scene, so you can see my friend in a couple of the shots.
Love this! In the series 2 episode School Reunion there's a scene where the tenth doctor walks into a room and rose tyler and sarah jane smith start laughing hysterically at him. To help this scene along the make up artist drew a fake moustache on david tennant's face which is what made billie piper and elisabeth sladen laugh so much as they wasn't expecting this! Also on the subject of unexpected kisses, don't forget about when jackie tyler pulled the tenth doctor in for an unwelcome kiss in the series 2 episode Army of Ghosts! 😂😂
I was rewatching series seven's "Hide" recently, and I noticed Matt Smith took off his bow tie, a few scenes later in the forest and his bow reappears for about two seconds before disappearing for about five seconds and reapearing again and repeating this process.
I didn't know that about the biscuit 😂 One of my favourite screen kisses is the Doctor and Rory especially when moments later the Doctor also smacks him both sides of his face 😂😂 It's just so well done and so typical Eleven 😂 I always liked Adric, he always seems to get grief from fans. Anyone who plays a moody character frequently isn't well accepted, look how long it took for Six to be accepted as he could be grouchy and pedantic 🙄😊
Adric...the "Wesley Crusher" of the Whoniverse! Hahahahaha! Seriously, both characters (Adris and Wesley) were so valuable to each of their respective shows!
If I recall correctly, Adric had calculated a way to get back to E-space, written it on a piece of paper, and given it the (fifth) Doctor, who then put it in his pocket. I keep hoping for that scrap of paper to be found by a current Doctor and used for a visit back to E-space. 🤔
I don't know if this is true or not but during the filming of Silence in The Libaray when River whispers the doctor's name in 10's ear. They had to do multiple takes because Alex Kingston kept saying naughty things in Tennant's ear and making him laugh
Sophie Aldred nearly drowned in a scene where she is in a water tank. Sylvester McCoy noticed and to prove he wasn't acting swore at the staff to get her out.
There is a scene in a Patrick Troughton story where he grabs Jamie's hand, thinking it's his female companion. One they both realize what happened, there is a great little comedy bit where they both pull away, shaking that hand looking slightly diasgusted...
Frazer and Patrick tried to do a lot of improv, during their time, as they knew the recording could only be stopped for big mystakes. They got away with mischief. 😉 There is a story when “evil of the Daleks” was being film, and Jamie found a handkerchief that was to be a clue to Victoria. Frazer held up a pair of knickers/Panty instead. Debbie W’ was horrified. This was during rehearsals, not the finished episodes (now, Animated) -likely the BBC wouldn’t allow that in 1967.
I started watching Doctor Who in the early months of 2012 so by that time, most questions about River Song had already been answered. But I do wonder how long it was before the cast (not the characters) knew. It would have been really awesome for the actors to have found out in A GOOD MAN GOES TO WAR as that's when the characters found out. I'd like to think that Matt Smith was generally learning the same time that the Doctor did.
If I remember right Alex Kingston who plays river song said that ever since river was first introduced her diary did actually have everything about river inside it so she knew the whole time but nobody else in the cast knew until a good man goes to war however they did get the script so it wasn't an on screen reveal. I believe many of the cast actually tried to bribe Alex Kingston into telling them who river truly was
Kinda missed season 2 New earths scene where Rose Tyler gets disinfected in the elevator. Nobody told her she would get completely showered so her surprised reaction was real.
I can't say for certain but there was this scene in the seeds of doom where the doctor gets told to turn around and Tom baker did a full 360. I think that was improvised to make people laugh.
I always thought Peter Davison getting accidentally slapped was karma getting him back for making fun of Anthony Ainley "still going on about" having gotten hit in the knee by shrapnel while shooting THE FIVE DOCTORS (an incident you missed, btw) during one of my video interviews with him. Payback can be a b**ch, Peter! LOL
The thing with art is that the most amazing things happen by accident. The list is endless, especially in music where most of the classic songs happen by accident. Mistakes in the mix, lyrics written about nothing, faulty equipment, background noise. Noel Gallagher is probably the king of meaningless lyrics. It's a conundrum because artists of any form are perfectionists but also have be able to leave something as it is.
Gonna speculate for a sec. Wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. There is a tendency to think of a Time Lords life as being linear like a humans. But I postulate that their lives are not so straight and narrow as that. On several occasions the Doctor has met himself and did not remember doing so. It is waved away as the Dre being "out of phase with time" or that he knew hew would not remember till later and such. I think he does not know himself. So. I postulate, not even a theory, that the time in which one "regeneration lives" is not as short or linear as we think of it. When a regeneration dies it disapears into the vortex or void or whatever it's called this week. I say it is completely possible that the 4trh Doctor is still alive. He's just not exactly a Time Lord any ,more. He's the Curator now. He gets to retire and do something peaceful while he continues to adventure with another face. Remember these ARE all the same person. So, when he does meet himself, he may well be meeting that person after they regenerated, even if they were taken form a time before that happened. More wiiblewy than wobbley there but you get the idea. And it would explain the lack or remembering.
At the end of the 50th anniversary, John Hurt asks which TARDIS is his before working it out. That was totally unscripted as he genuinely didn't know which of the 3 was indeed his. Edit - As an old Whovian then I totally forgot about the time Patrick reached for his companion's hand and ended up grabbing Jamie's with a hilarious reaction that was thankfully kept in! I know there are more as I recall some with Tom Baker that my grandfather (the original Whovian) pointed out when I was a little kid watching Tom. It's going to drive me bloody bonkers now.
I hadn't realised how young Adric was. I was the same age when I watched the original Davison shows in the eighties and thought he was adorbs. Now he looks about 12 lol.
The most egregious of the Hartnell-isms I can remember is from the Web Planet. Wandering around an alien landscape with it's thin atmosphere, protected by their special jackets (ah, early science theories :P), the Doctor seems to suddenly think his friend has turned into a sofa and calls him Chesterfield a number of times. Must have been that thin air, or maybe just jacket was on the blink.
I can add one more performance that is excellent yet not acting: #WhoCulture & Ellie Littlechild together are absolutely dynamite to watch, learn from and enjoy!😊
Would love to read River's diary .it's always fascinated me . How bittersweet it must be for her to meet each regeneration of her husband and him have no idea who she is ,while she remembers it all and knows what's coming . Jon Pertwee was my first Dr.(preferences it was too scary before that ! Though I was allowed to watch Lost in Space -mostly from behind the sofa looking through my fingers 😂)I would have to say 10 is my all time fave followed equally by 11and12,the the Master it would be Missy followed by John Sim's portrayal.Missy showed that the Master still had a tiny spark compassion and a fondness for the Dr.While John Sim buried that and returned to the spiteful megalomaniac .
The new earth episode....rose's first adventure with the 10th doctor. When they were getting in the elevator.....Billie Piper didn't know about the water spray. But David did.
When Clara is about to face the raven and they are saying goodbye. The Doctor takes her hand and kisses it - that was not in the script, Peter chose to add that. (and we Whouffaldi shippers everywhere bless him for it lol 🙌🏼)
I think the scene where tennant is proud of his daugther is also not staged after she done the flips through the lasers i mean what dad woudnt be proud to see the own daugther doing well in his show
Matt Smith and his walking stick- a book explains that the Doctor limped about as he only had one leg, the other was wooden. I can't remember exactly but basically he got it bitten off by a monster
