Good review. One small note, Df64 body is actually aluminum not plastic. Just has a vinyl wrap for colors. Can remove wrap if desired

Yeah I should have said that the layer on the outside is plastic / vinyl instead of just saying plastic. Great call out Joe

I been running an E37J for over a year with previous experience with Baratza and Compak. The stiff burr adjustment is annoying and setup can take some time. But once this is complete and you stay with the same bean the J is spot on. The burn on the grind chamber retention is also a negative but not a deal killer. The comparison portion of the video is almost laughable with the fumbling on the Ceado side, please. I set to timer for 8.1 seconds and i get a consistent weight ground every time. No clumping/bouldering. Change the bean then You gotta dial her in again but not a big issue. Ceado certainly has its shortcomings in certain areas but the comparison does as well.

Yeah honestly I think I may have just got a bad unit or something

@@JoeyVaracalli Certainly possible. The first J I got the display worked for about 4 minutes then died. I sent it back and got a new one. Annoying for sure.

Hi Buhl, my sentiments exactly. We used the E37J at the cafe for our standard coffee shots, and on some days we would run the entire day without any changes to the grind time or grind setting. Only thing we had to watch for was the amount of coffee in the hopper, as with any grinder. As the level went down, the grounds output would lessen. Filling up the hopper, grind times went back to normal. I have not seen a more stable and solid portafilter holder, than the design on the Ceado line. Lock in the portafilter, then go and do something else. There is nothing that would cause the portafilter to get dislodged from the grinder, during the grinding process. There was no need to do WDT or distribute, since the grinds came out fluffy with no clumping. Just a couple taps on the side of the portafilter and your grounds were level, ready for tamping. For single dosing on the E37J, that's another story though. I've brought the E37J home and have started using it for single dosing and found that I had to modify the bend on the metal flap which regulates the grounds exiting the grinder. I've bent the metal flap more open to allow the bellows to more easily blow out the remaining grinds. Consistency on shot time and flavor is incredible. The only odd thing with this grinder is I can't seem to cleanly use it with a naked portafilter. There will usually be some amount of spurting or channeling visible in the puck. The shot will taste great but just from looking at the extraction from the basket, you'd think otherwise. It's possible my Quick Mill doesn't like an ECM naked portafilter, since I have to lock in the portafilter further than I lock in the Quick Mill portafilters, until they feel firmly seated in the grouphead. I'm also going to test extractions without a 15 to 20 second preinfusion time, and see if I can produce pretty extractions, not just great tasting ones.

Before i had a DF64 with SSP High Speed burrs, now i am using a Ceado S37SD. DF64 is a Ford Fiesta and Ceado is a Bentley…

I've never heard anyone say ANY Ceado grinder doesn't produce great espresso.
Not sure why all the negativity toward this grinder... but I've not seen anything about it besides the grind adjustment that's not excellent.
And... Ceado grinders are tried and tested to last a lifetime.
This simply didn't seem like a fair review or comparison.

Because people try to compare the newly released e37J with the large burr gold standard e37S which costs double the price of not more. The J actually is on par in terms of performance to Ceado’s own e5p both have same size burr and have retention problem, but with added electronic timing and more consistent burr adjustments of the e37S I would probably upgrade my e5p to e37J when time comes just to make life easier. The e5p is super consistent on grind size, even without a timer.

Ceado is built for more commercial use. If your creating a lot of drinks it’s perfect. I wouldn’t use a DF64 for commercial use.

Ceado can be single dose. They sell bellows for it. Listen. The comparison to ceado is way better. Italian made. Also you can easily make this or any grinder single dose zero retention.

Nice video. I would say that flat burrs bring more clarity and fruity notes and conical burrs mix flavours a bit more and bring more chocolate flavours but that really depends on the coffee and grinder you use.

this is a sneaky and failed attempt at using the Ceado as an inferior grinder compared to the DF64. It's not. If you want a grinder that is going to operate longer than you do - get an E37 Ceado.
