    That was very informative I thought. And I'm glad that you spoke about the differences. Plus you carry both. This shows that you aren't just about making money, and that you care about the customers. This is why I really like your company. I have alot of respect for Sailrite. 😊

    I choose Sattler for my new V-Berth cushions for the price, since my searches and reading basically said the same as this video. Great stuff and of course I bought it from SailRite! Fabric choice was easy, teaching myself to sew was a... pain.

    I would like to see a uv testing comparison on several colors.

    You have two different metrics for comparing fade resistance of these two fabrics. Which one is more fade resistant?
    Sattler
    : 1,750 Hours at 2,200 KJ irradiance (AATCC 169) vs Sunbrella: Grade 4 (Slight Fading) at 2,200 KJ (AATCC 169)

      The manufacturers use different testing methods (or ways to state those metrics). The fact is that the fiber used for both brands is the same --- 100% Solution Dyed Acrylic. My understanding is that there are only a couple of sources for the acrylic and all of the competing products share these suppliers. We are confident in saying you can expect the same longevity between the two brands.
      Honestly, they will fade at the same rate. The base material is the same. And remember that both brands are warranted for 10 years for fade resistance. So they are excellent. That said, we don’t get many warranty claims for Sunbrella or Sattler but we know from our own experience that even solution dyed acrylics (these brands and others) do fade slightly over time. I think most people expect this despite the extreme warranty offered. Colors like red, orange, and yellow seem to be more prone to fading than blacks and blues. But most fading is never obvious unless you happen to hold a new piece up to the old after years of exposure to the sun. And unlike other fabric, made from other fibers, the fading does not harm the integrity of the fabric itself.

    I know this kind of fabric is advertised as being abrasion resistant, but that does not mean that it doesn’t abrade-it certainly does given enough time in contact with something.

    On the screen the sattler patch appears to have a moir pattern unlike sunbrella. Are they woven slightly differently?

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  4 місяці тому

      The moiré pattern appearance difference may be visible because one panel was oriented along the weft or warp differently from the other fabric panel. Because of that the light that reflects off the weave creates a different looking shadow, making the weave and sometimes even the color of the fabric look slightly different, when they are actually similar or the same woven fabrics.

    Is the Sattler equivalent to Outdura? I'm trying to learn about Outdura. I prefer Sunbrella but a boat cover company says they might use either. ??

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  2 місяці тому +1

      Sattler is the marine grade type while Outdura is the upholstery fabric type. They are both made by Sattler. Let me know if you have more questions.
