Dave Matthews wrote this...it was released on his debut album. It won him a grammy for best male rock vocal performance in 2004.
This Kappa performance is for Martin :) who requested the song...when he sent it I listened to about 1 verse and thought...oh yeah....I need to do this one. ;) Not a happy tune but so very very cool and it stays with you. Willie Nelson also covered this in 2008.
Chords and lyrics below..I found these on the web....I changed the A to a Bflat...that worked better for me..oh and I'm playing a d form with F# in the bass for the D/G. I'm not sure that am2 is the name for the chord either...what I'm playing is am minus the C, add a G in the bass....call it what you will... :)
Am Am2
Cyrus Jones, 1810 to 1913.
F Am
Made his, great grandchildren believe you could live to a hundred & three.
Am Am2
Well, a hundred & three is forever when you're just a little kid
F Am
So, Cyrus Jones lived forever.

Stunning as ever! THIS Martin Guitar is so deep and you star-shining voice sparks... You just dont sing&play - you LIVE the song!
And more: I consider (my proper opinion) that you do the hardest thing in such kind of performances - you sing & play live unplugged. Your sound is 100% acoustic. No processors, no synthesizers, no electronics - just your voice and your guitar...
We love you Kappa!
Keep on, princess!
Wow !! that was fantastic !!!...excellent performance !!!
wow! just wow!
That was amazing ❤🇨🇦
Outstanding! Your voice and guitar invoke both my growing sense of claustrophobia and a soothingness to that claustrophobia as I think about feeling the rain in my grave. Thank you!
This was just remarkable.
Very nice version.
Amazing
Dear Kappa - wow! What a great cover...your vocals really let the lyrics bleed, and your guitar work is solid! I'm a vocalist who sang backup in a DMB cover band in PA, and I'm slowly learning guitar...They're my fav band. I hope to be able to do acoustic Dave covers like you in the future...You've given me fresh inspiration to prevail over the challenges of his chords, and my own personal turmoil at the moment...Thanks for playing, shining and sharing this! You're fantastic! DMB forever!
FAB!
Beautiful song, beautiful voice--- slainte mhath, songstress!
Kappa, you're my new favorite subscription on youtube! Love your playing and your voice, and the collaborations with your family. I've been inspired to learn some of your arrangements, too--I'd been playing electric much more lately, but you're pulling me back to acoustic!
loved this. Thank you for making this cover.
awesome
This is awesome:) It is a sad song.
Very nice. :-)
wow!!!!
nice work! I'm working on this myself, got the chords but the words take something extra
Caralho que voz foda
:)) I have to keep ya'll guessing you know...:) No, really I love a challenge and a stretch...I learn something new and it's always fun to see if I can actually pull it off....love this song..so unique and eerie...:) @batesm
Achei que fosse o Grave Digger de vdd caria eauhsheashuehasuehashu LOVE IS A GAAAAAAME
This is the best cover I've seen of this song. well done! Great how you've made it your own.
Thank you...:) this pretty much killed my fingers...I haven't been playing tons of barre chords lately and they're always tough for me in first position...I learned this in two days and by day 2 my hand was so much stronger...it's amazing how your body responds to what you need to get done...:)@Bella8106
Thanks Jesse !!! You too Happy Holidays!!@JesseMathews
Are you married ? Not proposing ;-)
Excellent! I heard this song for the first time a few days ago driving home from work, and although I loved the song I'm not a big fan of DMB, so I searched for covers that weren't so Dave matthewsy. This was what I wanted. Thanks!
Hello Kappa,
I discovered Dave Matthews with this cover (Don't shoot me ! I'm French ! And listen to your songs are a nice way to discover US music !).
Then I have a "very neutral" ear, and sincerely, I prefer your interpretation instead the original (It's my opinion !). Thank you !
I come back to this cover a couple of times a year, and I'm never sorry I came back; I'm only sorry I stayed away.
Still awsome in 2018
So dicfficult to sing......a song with so much pain ans feelings.......really good
Love the octave shift. Brought a tear to my eye.
A striking beautiful lady with a whole lot of talent. Thanks for taking the time to explain the chords and best of all, post the video. Nice Martin, bet it sounds even better close up.
Thank you! @Grosnez95
Kappa.... love all your songs. DMB is one of my favorite bands. You did it justice for sure. Tks for the inspiration... I'll keep practicing!
thanks for your answer, I bought a HD28 and the action is just about right, but I have seen some with high action, so I was just wondering
Oh' this is too good, just too good performance. Please do not do it so perfectly.
was there somthing wrong with the guitar when you bought it, that you had to have the action lowared?
Du er da lige til at spise frk.... :) yderst dejligt cover spillet af en smuk kvinde,, kan man forlange mere.?? :)
love it..
Very good as usual. Have a merry Xmas Kappa!
You and and Dave matthews MUST do a duet right now!
Kappa! I never would have expected DMB from you. Nicely done!
wow, I liked it better that original song 'cause of Kappa's higher voice
I cant sing like her but sounds like a haunting ghost
Great job !
Deep feelings !
Sounds great. One of the best songs ever.
you need to throw that ring in the trash and marry me :)
Glad this one made you happy...:) I do a bunch of different songs..a lot of them smooth and melodic...so it's fun to do something with an edge too.. thanks for commenting...:)).@AFracturedWorld
If Dave Mathews was female he would be you
Thanks :) You know what was the most taxing part...aside from the quick change barre chords...remembering the numbers! Ha....I kept mixing the numbers up for a while...:)@Av8tor061
No :) Martin guitars generally come from the factory with high action. Martin makes them that way because some bluegrass players like a really high action for big strings and lots of volume. It allows the buyer to leave it as is or modify it to their own liking. Lowering the action makes it a bit easier to play on.
Kate Bush would be jealous! WOWWW
nice
WOW!!!!! That is all I can say.
what is it for a guitar??? its awesome!
My god, this is so good
Great cover ! Thanks for chords. :)
Awesome as usual. :o)

***** indeed...
It is most definitely Mr. Vertigo
rosinantedelafuente it's Mr. vertigo,.... on the flying trapeze,..
vertigo is phobic fear of high places.. trapeze artists are known for their scary stunts up high.
yeah, in willie nelsons version it sounds like he is saying verigo
