I think your vocals are really tight and stable but harmonically it feels a little all over the place in the sense that you switch from minor to major keys too often and it leaves the listener with a sort of sonic whiplash. It's subjective I guess but that was my take on it

It's in Eb mixolydian which is the Eb major scale with a flattened 7th which gives it a slightly more minor vibe - in your case, you're covering this is D mixo. The overall vibe is major. but you push it into a minor sound too often in the pre chorus by singing the minor third of D (F) too often instead of the major third (F#). Here's what I mean and I'll do it in the key you used. When they sing this part they use the following notes (this will only fit on a laptop screen 😂): Mmmmmm they come to- ge- ther, look we're to - ge - ther F# slide to F E E F E D E E F# E D You can see that the F# is used a lot here which is the major third of the tonic. Which reinforces the major vibe of the song. the minor third (F) is added here and there to add a bluesy vibe - it's a common trick to splash a major blues with minor pentatonic to give it more spice and attitude. Here's what you sang: Mmmmmm they come to- ge- ther, look we're to - ge - ther E > F < E < D E E F E D E E F E D Had to use < and > to show slide up and down haha You didn't use any F#'s and yet the key of the song and the rest of what you sang was major. that's why it sounded jarring. Even your harmonies are harmonies for D major. But the synth and guitar sound like their only playing D5s which only increases the ambiguity. That's what makes this section jarring and hence the sonic whiplash haha. Do you see where I'm coming from? Add a minor third every now and again when singing in a major key to spice it up a bit. But don't outright replace it because you'll muddle the sound. A switch to D minor for the pre-chorus doesn't really fit either in this song.
