About 20 years ago one of my best buds bought a sailboat and sailed south. Lives on St John, USVI now. This guy and his wife are adventurers. Sailed his boat to Europe. They would sail to a destination and explore for three months then come back and work for nine. I joined them in the Greek Islands and Sicily. He's a plumber/builder , you just have to want to bad enough.
I live on an island in the Atlantic, in the US, not far from the Caribbean, and plan to spend most of my time sailing the Caribbean, and finding a new island home before the US implodes. Just a few more years to go before early retirement.
We travelled through a few places in the Carribean last year but would love to explore the area more. Love the natural beauty and laid back atmosphere of the area :)
@@elkarlos814 Costa Rica is next on our list! We're in Nicaragua at the moment and were planning to travel to Costa Rica when borders closed due to Covid. Once the land border opens up again we're planning to head over 😁

I lived for 10 years between Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.. On my last year bought an apartment brand new in Dominican Republic 15 mins from the airport and 10 from the Beach in Santo Domingo for a whopping US$30k, 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, in a close community that was still under construction... 😅 That's going to be my place of retirement.. You'll be surprised how many people speak English fluently in Santo Domingo but! No doubt learning Spanish is a must. And night life? Well there's a street full of clubs called "Venezuela Ave." Side to side full of clubs, bars, etc.. In new years they close that street and make the street their club crazy fun. But like any country crime is real so you better pay attention where you go.. Edited: as mentioned in the vídeo Government gives you incentives to live there when I pay off my apartment Government reimburse me around US$3k.. So the apartment is not even the $30k (which you have 25 years to pay if you want). But for any novice I rather recommend look into Santiago 2nd biggest city, is less crowded more laid-back than Santo Domingo.
@@geogmz8277 Wow, thank you for this information! Great info to know. I am looking at a few Central American and Caribbean countries now. I definitely think it is important to "test out" countries before making a full commitment to move there for sure. I'm glad that you had a great experience in both places and found a living situation that works well for you.
Interesting list depending on what's most important. Safety and infrastructure would place Barbados and Antigua at the top. Retiring in Turks is equivalent to retiring in Manhattan. Three of the islands on the list have extremely high crime. It would be nice to see top ten lists broken down by safety, ease of residency/citizenship, cost of living, infrastructure, etc.
Great list. Important to have correct pronunciation though. Ro-a-TAN (not row-tan). Gre-NAY-da (not Gre-nah-da, and no rolled R, unless your speaking about the city in Spain), also, enviable comes from the word envy, so it's not en-VIE-able but envy-able.
You bet! Jamaica 🇯🇲 Beautiful Island with an array of food (curry goat, Ackee with salt fish, oxtail stew, steak jerk chicken, patty with all kind of fillings, very large lobsters, clams, oysters, an array of fish, huge shrimps, all kinds of delicious tropical fruits to eat and mix with a “8 foot” rum and lots lots of fun!
