I would have let the electric razor behind and replace most of the tools with the Alien Multitool II which will never disappoint you. The small pliers, on the contrary, seem very handy. You'll definitely need them. A computer of that size might be cumbersome too for bike-packing imho.
It took me quite too long to find this..pfff. Well .. better late than never. I like THAT bike!!! You really got all that packed on one bike... quite an achievement! What did you use to navigate?
Oh, yeah, one more thing. You might consider bivying and put the mattress together with the sleeping bag in the bivy as one single sleeping solution. You will gain more weight and more volume and you would keep consistent with your lightweight gear objective. Waterbags are not recommended for the puncture problem that might arise soon or later. I never used them but if your read French, you might check the point made about them by Bertrand, the author of the webblog dedicated to long-haul bike travels : "Le Braquet de la Liberté".
Nice setup, still I find panniers to be the better solution especially if on a touring type bike. These bike packing setups are fine when you use a road bike and have limited options.
Hope all is well on your journey. I was thinking about doing something similar on a motorcycle but recently I've become more attached to my bike. So your bike looks a little like a hybrid with the wider tyres- was that the plan? Fewer flats?
Damn, you found exactly the same modest website on which I plan to buy the bike-packing bags. Probably the price helps to make them very attractive. What is your feedback on these? Do you recommend?
It is quite solid, i didn't see any problems 3 months /3500 km into my trip. Only some velcro straps failed. The guy manufacturing it, Mike, is very helpful, and i'm sure they will continue improving on the design. Definetly recommend. EDIT: 5500 km into my trip, had to replace the top bar bag as it began to wear. They are using new material now which should last longer
hi Basile, nice plan. when you will arrive in china? I'm in Guangzhou until middle of November so text me if you pass from here. will be a pleasure to meet you.
Done many tours? I have. Yur center of gravity is a bit high and you are carryingtoo much. Excluding food, try to keep none bike items below 25 LB. Yo have not really reduced the widn resisitance significantly. With a medium set of rear panniers your legs and seat tube catch much of the wind so go ahead and use rea panniers and a medium size bar bag. 3 water bottles clustered arond and under the down tube with a bladder for long dry rides in desert areas is better. bottles on the sides of forks move wnd reisistance way up. Have a great tme no matter how you proceed.
Great comment, thank you for the feedback ! 25LB, what items from the ones i showed would you cut away ? And indeed, rear panniers would be the next logical step if I needed more space. 3 months into the trip, i have been very satisfied with this setup. It allows for smoother rides on rougher terrain, and good manoeuvrability and feel overall.
@bud chestnut I agree on the water bottles. Not on your theory about aerodynamics. rear panniers have a big influence compared to saddle and frame bags. Andye sI think he has too much....but if he uses it all is good for him
Why do people always post set ups of the kit they take BEFORE they set off. Far too much stuff and ridiculous set up making the bike really top heavy and uncomfortable to ride.
I’m sorry very helpful video but honestly way too many “uh”s after a while they get really really annoying when you talk... no offense “uh as you can see, uh, this is baby oil, uh, and, uh, let’s see, uh. That’s probably gonna last me two meals uh”
I'm amazed you got all of that in your bike bags! I have about the same amount of stuff as you, but I have 4 panniers!
Good luck buddy. Looking forward to see more videos of your trip and progress.
You went all out for this trip nice setup.
Inspirational man! Glad to hear your stories when you're back :)

Really tight packing! Yeah, man bike in one!
Welcome to my country!

Cool. I am going from Sweden to Gibraltar :)

I met you in Pakistan Besham city..
Really nice man ...
Nice to meet you
Nice one! Happy ride and be safe 👌👌
you can buy a multy tool to save space
Question: wouldn't having the extra weight payload higher make it harder to handle the bike?
.. Especially on long distances?
Simply me you adapt, after a few weeks once you take the load off the bike feels like it’s too sensitive.
i love THIS trip video! go for it! & God speed!
Great vid, keep it up 👍👍👍

good luck man! One advice: buy proper water bottles. That kind of plastic is not good when it's many days in the sun (or so I've heard)
So far, no problem with them👍
What does all your gear weight

Basile Verhulst Lose those pan pipes for a start mon vieux!
Sooo... Front panniers... Bad?
Depend ;-) If you need a lot of food or really cold weather.

i think you need to take your camera back
