- Getting familiar with my brand new Diamond DA62. Flight from Bankstown Sydney to Richmond (ILS), Camden (Sector Entry and Hold and RNP), Orange (RNP), then circuits (including flapless), Stalls (clean and dirty), Steep Turns, then return to Bankstown using the weather radar to avoid a storm cell on my route. I also use the de-ice (TKS) system to make sure it's working. Lots of hand-flying to improve my instrument flying skills. Enroute problem (tapping sound) that I figure out after landing! General Aviation Sydney Australia. Let me know what you think.
Earth cable, wow. Bet your happy you found it! We need a new plane tour please...
I was amazed how easy the problem was to find. Usually noises take ages to diagnose and sometimes you never find the source. Happy to find this one quickly. Apparently a common problem on the diamond and easy to rectify. Phew!!
Beautiful aircraft and looked like a lot fun ✈️🇦🇺
Thanks! The DA62 is a very nice aircraft to fly
Congrats on the new machine Steve, it's an amazing bird and the colour is awesome. I could see that rego coming ;)
Looking forward to seeing some of the adventures, I can smell a trip North across to PNG or Indo coming, or even past LHI to NZ......hmmm..
Thanks! Yes I reserved the rego some time ago.. and I’m keen to do NZ via Lord Howe island in coming months. Maybe Norfolk and Noumea also. I’ll video and share it!!
Just awesome. Thankyou so much.
Most welcome!
Hey Steve congrats with your new aircraft! I got Some photos of your aircraft departing BWU last Thursday! I Love the blue colour it looks awesome.
Awesome. Is that the photo I see on Flight Radar 24? The colour has worked out much nicer than I expected!
Man you are living the dream
Yes I’m very lucky to have this amazing machine!
Awesome video. The 62 looks like an absolute pleasure to fly. "Wouldn't have minded a bit more of a break to be honest" at 32:23 made me laugh. I just finished my PPL (in a museum piece 172) in January and had so many moments like that, so this is good perspective as I'm sure I'll look back on it as being easy compared to when I eventually tackle MEIR. Thanks for the upload, good Aussie aviation content is hard to find.
Cheers
Zac
Thanks Zac! The 62 is amazing. In fact I flew this aircraft all the way from the Diamond factory near Vienna, Austria all the way back to Sydney (with a professional ferry pilot onboard)! The MEIR is hard work but totally worth it. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment! Thanks and best wishes for your future flying.
Hi Steve, I have just found your channel - wow. One suggestion , it would be fantastic to have a camera behind you so that we can see you inputs and the screens.
Yep. It’s on the todo list for future! Thanks for watching
Steve,
your trip from Austria to Sydney would also be interesting to see, if you care to share any footage if you filmed any of it. Steve, from Houston, Diamond owner, DA 40 NG. N246SA.
You're living my dream for sure, especially the color blue you chose for your '62.
I was also a DA40NG owner (VH-X42). Great aircraft. Yes the blue worked out very nicely. I have some footage from the ferry flight that I will get around to editing and sharing one day! It’s amazing these machines can fly around the world!
Thanks Steve, looking forward.
I just found you recently but I love your videos. Weird question though. Why are you not using the electrical trim on the stick?
Good question. I like the tension feedback you get by spinning the wheel. You don’t get any feedback using the electric trim buttons… maybe it’s just me!
Loved that controller stickybeaking about 42 vs 62. 😆 42 also has these sharkfins from hell on the wings!
If you don't mine me asking: how tall are you and how roomy do you find the 62, especially for leg room?
I’m 179cm tall. I’ve taken a few people over 6 foot. I find it very roomy. Once in cruise you can slide the rudder pedals forward a bit to give you loads more legroom. Plenty of headroom for me.
Been watching your feed. Not a pilot but love the content. I think the DA62 looks a lot more comfortable than the DA40. Love the air traffic controller "whats the difference between 40 and 62"?
Yes the 62 is bigger and more luxurious! Yes that was an interesting question during the missed approach. Lucky I aviated and navigated before communicating. Haha
Nicely flown Steve. How did you like the armrest controller? How's the cabin comfort compare with the Baron?
Thanks! I love the armrest controller. At first I didn’t think it was really necessary, but I use it all the time now. It means you don’t need to lean over the copilot / passenger to press MFD buttons and it pretty much controls everything. The comfort is excellent. Like a BMW or Mercedes. I much prefer the ergonomics over the baron. Nothing feels “bolted on”.. it all just makes sense and flows nicely.
Loving your content mate, curious if Richmond ATC ever get annoyed using them for missed approach practice?
Thanks. Not that I’ve noticed. It’s the only ILS available in the Sydney area (obviously Sydney Airport ILS isn’t available for training). So it’s used heavily for training, testing, currency, IPCs, etc. you get it most of the time when you request it.
Hello Steve, Why did you move from a Baron 58 to a DA62 ? How are operating costs in both ?
I did my multi engine IR in the g58 baron but I placed my order for the DA62 around 2 years ago. I wanted to train in the more challenging aircraft (baron) but I think the DA62 is the one to own.. amazing aircraft!
The DA62 uses roughly half the fuel of the baron with similar payload and speeds
@@diamondairtaxis thanks for your answer ! Do you consider the DA62 as a true six seater aircraft ? I know that you can put 6 people in it but what about their luggages ? The front baggage compartment looks so small !
8:53 "While I got you, if you got 2 secs, what's the difference between a 42 & a 62?" The difference is 20, mate.
Haha. Love it!
Hi boss whats ur website keen to book a flight 👍👍
Website is under development. Just email me details to Stephen.boyd@diamondairtaxis.com thanks
Hi, what kind ipad and mount you use?
Until recently I used the mygoflight suction cup mount. But the DA62 has a RAM ball mount so now I use that. I like both for different reasons!
I always wonder why we don’t sit higher to give better forward visibility, even better forward facing live camera would be hand.
Visibility is fine for takeoff and landing (with flaps). The rest of the time I’m not really looking out the front window all that much!
