    We just got Silkies for my daughters boy scout project, and my son is obsessed with chickens.
    The chicks are the sweetest but she does want to show them (I think 2 of the three have prefect toes and all that)
    What would you suggest for letting them see if you wouldnt sugest hair ties? Would bows be okay as long as they are removed and changed out.

      @@alexanderhenby1362 I would usually just do a trim around their eyes. I have heard some using the bands and they have grown into their heads 😳

    I love your videos. Speaking of feed, you mentioned Kalmbach feed. I use that brand and am currently using their full plume feathering feed. What bag specifically do you use? I am new at this and if there is a kind I don't have to mix I'd prefer that :)

      Oh thank you. Glad you are enjoying them ☺️. I’m currently using Flock maker crumbles 20% it has added vitamins. I just add treats.

      I know some people who use the Kalmbach meat bird…. It’s looks very similar nutritionally except it 22% protein. I also think the show bird one could be a good choice .. it’s 24%

    Hi! Thank you so much for this video! Do you give the 22-24% protein food to adult silkies as well?

    • @ThisOldGreenhouse
      @ThisOldGreenhouse  4 місяці тому +1

      @@ladanyortiz Your Welcome. Yes I generally try to feed a little bit higher protein with the type of feathers they have. Keeps them looking nice and very healthy.

    Are the hatchies a good place to order silkie babies?
    I'm having problems in our local area in Georgia finding quality Silkies that are a single color and mixed with another color.

    • @ThisOldGreenhouse
      @ThisOldGreenhouse  6 місяців тому

      If you are wanting guaranteed quality Silkies I would try to find a reputable breeder. You don’t really know what you’re getting from a hatchery.

    Love the advice thank u
    But the more and more u said “ weak “ kinda annoyed me 😅
    They are not “ weak “ they are just unlucky to be born that way. lost my grey baby 2 days ago
    She wasn’t weak, she was a super cuddly girl sweet girl; Just had an incurable respiratory infection.
    Not “ weak “ sometimes things happen, not the chicken themselves just the unlucky roll of the dice.
    U should try ur hardest to save them even if they have health issues 😭
    Every life matters, even if ur able to pop babies out super quick

      @@ThisOldGreenhouse yeah I’m new to breeding so I’ve been getting way to attached to them, I tried my hardest to save her life but I couldn’t

      I felt weird about the "weak" comments too. Like how does genetics contribute to mites and respiratory infections.
      Strongest genes in the world can still get pneumonia and lice.
      How their body fights it off can be genetic, but anything can come in contact with pathogens and get sick.
